I know many of us practice some form of divination. Personally I'mm studying all that I can till I find the "right" one for me. I like Tarot and Cartomancy, but runes and other systems are interesting too. So, what do you do, or what would you like to do?

Let's see, DF has tried many different things.
1) Tarot Cards - DF is fairly good at it, made her own deck. Would like to buy a dragon tarot deck. 2) Runes - DF made them too, also good. 3) Cartomany - Briefly. 4) Water in a glance + Mirror - Not so much Edit: 5) Pendulums - DF is good with these as well. Though her pendulum recently became broken, so she's looking for a new one. ^__^
What I'd like to try:
Tea leaves and their readings. I'd like to have mine done. Palmstry.

I'm interested in that as well. I read some where that coffee grounds can also be used. I have a book that covers it to some degree... as well as fortune telling with dice!

Oh! Coffee ground readings are a Greek Tradition! I wanted to have mine read at the Greek Fest. like two years ago, but by the time I got there, they weren't doing it anymore. I was sad.
I'd really like to go under someone's wing to study the tea leaves. It would be so nice to have someone teach me how to do it. ^__^

It would be nice to have a divination teacher in general for me. I consider becoming a psychic part of what I want to do with my life. So I really should develop one system before I start working with others. Cartomancy is a part of my family tradition, so I should start with that.
I have done "shamanic" readings before. I have 4 Native American based card systems that I have used in the past. While I love them, they don't seem to cover everything that cartomancy does.
It seems to me that some systems (like Spirit of the Wheel, Medicine, and Sacred Path cards) are better suited for spiritual guidence while Cartomancy, Tarot, Runes, and the like could be used for anything. Maybe I just haven't found the "non spiritual" meanings to the Shaman cards. Maybe there isn't one. All I know is that I've gotten a lot of insight from all the systems I've used.

What makes it hard is that you really have to rely more on abstract intuitive thinking. It requires a different way of thinking than say, Tarot does where you can more easily rely on a book to tell you what the card means. Heck, in Tarot you have a limited set of cards you can draw. Tasseomancy is totally open ended. You can see ANYTHING in those leaves. It's one of the two divinatory systems I tend to use (the other being Tarot). I could put up a thread on the basics of it if you want. The main ones I use now then are Tarot and Tasseomancy. I might later cultivate rune-use as a secondary oracular system but the first time I tried them... it was... meh. I think I need to just make my own rune set with symbols that resonate more with me. I might eventually make an animal and plant card deck too.... a rock/mineral one would be neat also. I feel like I should try pendulums again even though they didn't agree with me before. Scrying is something I should develop more too as... I find staring into running water very mesmerizing. xd

As for a thread about it, it might be a good class... *hint hint*

A system that I find to be unique is the I-Ching. It uses coins and hexagrams based on the coins. Traditionally it was yarrow sticks, but they have also made coins. I've had an I-Ching reading done once, and it was very insightful. Though the messages come in "proverb" and riddle, just like most Chinese sayings.

Not all of us have time to use everything. Trust me. I don't do divination as often as I would like to.

Hrm, well, I'm fairly proficient in 4 forms of divination; tarot cards, tea leaves and coffee grinds, plus the pendulum. I read tea and tarot for a living for a while and Starlock's right; you can see ANYTHING in a tea cup. Anything. It's extremly intuitive and you have to trust yourself to say what you see, even if it's hilarious or scary. I can sortof do angel/spirit guide readings through a tea/coffee cup as well. Its' whatever comes through gets read.
I do readings for just about anyone but myself, except pendulum. That one seems to do just fine for me if done by me. The rest are all influenced too strongly by what I'm thinking/feeling.

You should apply at a local shop then! smile That's all I did; I called them up, asked if they were hiring readers and went from there. Good luck!

I'm interested in being a local reader eventually I just don't feel I'm 'ready' yet. But when are you really 'ready' in the first place, ya know? I want to at least to a good study unit on the divination system I'm using and consult at the bare minimum half a dozen different perspectives on the art... especially for something like Tarot. Divination might not be the area I'm meant to teach in anyway. I seem to have an uncanny knack for it, but that doesn't necesarily make a good professional reader. xd
So how DO you know when you're ready?
