my personal preferance is to dry them out and powder them for later use and to perserve them longer that way, i use them as incense in ritual and the raw plant or some poultice for healing wounds or other things or other such mixtures.

I dry some of my herbs that I find in my back yard, or I just pick them fresh. Either way, they're fine. It is best to use fresh on wounds and dried in a mixture, though.
