I just switched from Ubuntu to Linux Mint and i am loving it. It seems very similar to ubuntu but feels more professional. I installed version 3.1 and when I ran synaptic it didnt say anything about a later version so I assume 4 is still in beta.

hmm It looks kinda nice but the pictures are only of Gnome and I kinda dislike Gnome but otherwise It looks like Ubuntu but much more simple razz So Yey for another easy Linux for beginners biggrin he he, But it looks like it has KDE in development so It will be like Ubuntu but probably not so popular biggrin

Mint is pretty nice, I have it on one of my laptops, easy just to install and not have to bother with doing anything to have stuff work. that being said, I still hate gnome and never use it.

Currently using Mint right now. I hightly prefer over UBANTOO. Sure is very simple and easy, but much more of a better design choice and slow release cycles. Although this is my distro of choice at the moment. In about a few months I'll be another distro, but I like this for my laptop which fits my needs. I really looking forward on Linux Mint 5!

Linux Mint 5 is very nice (tis what I am running on). The functionality is perfect for just ease of use and nice clean desktop/icons. But I've been thinking about compiling Gentoo for I am bored. And whats funner than Gentoo?

Slackware = win, true dat yo.... but my only problem is that is doesn't come with gnome.... Yeah compiz will run on mint..... it's basicly a glossed up version of ubuntu with extra tools..

You realize that Gentoo doesn't come with Gnome either. It is your choice whither you want to install it or not.

Welp, finally gave Mint a whirl, and installed it over my old Ubuntu partition, and set it to dual boot with my windows partition (Which i'm only using to sync up my Zune...Yeah, I'll be getting a Linux compliant MP3 soon), and truthfully, I love it! A much more simplified interface, no need to fiddle with codecs, the flash works beautifully for the 64 bit edition (except for a weird bug that prevents me from watching you tube vids, but this can be solved by using greasemonkey fixes), and in general it just seems much more faster and robust when compared to Ubuntu. It did take me awhile to adjust to the program installer (Used apt-get at first til I got used to it). Not to mention I love the whole mint color scheme.
A complete win for me, and now my #1 distro

That glorious terminal, o how I love you terminal. Quote: sudo apt-get install gnome-app-install I liked the fact that the mint install could get me Mint-branded apps but not all apps are Minted up and i would rather not search through deb.net or whatver it was. I just really found it easier. But thats only if you want it. If ya don't thats cool ya know. Mint is my favourite branch of Ubuntu. They do have a nice lookin Kde3.5 community edition but i believe it needs a dvd to fit on. But what i really would like to do is Linux from Scratch. It sounds fun.

I'm gunna do this right now. Ok, did it, and I'm not finding it. Do I need to restart for it to show up? Hmm im not quite sure, because I used the three Gnome Menu and not Mint Menu, And it shows up on the regular Gnome Menu. Let me re- install mint on another partition so i can figure it out mmk... Edit: better yet I'm gonna install MintMenu on Ubuntu but I'm on Ibex so im not sure if it will work... but we'll see Edit: ok so MintMenu does not work properly on Intrepid Ibex. So I installed Mint. I have a solution/workaround... Right click the menu and click "Edit Menu". Go to where ever you wish to put Add/Remove. (I recommend administration). Select "New Item" Name it whatever you wish. (I recommend "Add/Remove") In "command" type gnome-app-install, then press ok Close the window, right click the menu again and click "Reload Plugins" After thats all through you should be able to get to Add/Remove in the menu.
