The Great Hall (Full Description)
Gentle taps of padding feet gliding upon marble tiles sound in the ethereal setting of the guild headquarters as you step past the illuminated threshold, awe etched into every contour of your facial features. The grand room is all but silent, but it is a pleasant silence—serenely so—that contradicts itself endlessly as it echoes in your expectant ears. Even despite the supposedly harmless quietude, your internal alarm system activates instinctively upon entering this seemingly uncharted territory—the grand hall of the (as arrogant as it is to say) magnificent guild of Silver Keys. However, your bizarre sense of caution proves excessively groundless as you realize, in several short moments, that the hall is empty—and extremely large, so large one could probably slip a blue whale inside and still have ample room to spare.
Heaving an almost disappointed sigh, you take a step, gliding forward with uncharacteristic grace. The resounding swishes of your rustling attire are deafening in the cold, albeit mystical, atmosphere, but you pay them no heed and continue your trek throughout the hall. Your astonished eyes scour the mysterious setting in an attempt to commit it to memory, causing images to filter into your line of sight:
Grand, elaborate arches reminiscent of those from ancient Rome adorn the hall, supported by towering columns of glittering marble. As your eyes glance over the beautiful architecture, you notice that tiny indents in the shapes of feathers are present on every other column, while paw prints decorate the smooth surface of others, though the two symbols never share one column. An awed whisper of "Wow..." bubbles up from your vocal cords before tumbling past your parted lips as you continue taking in the spellbinding sights. Intricate, swirling designs enter your view shortly, etched into the glimmering surface of the marble tiles that constitute the ground. Though you are able to view every shred of surrounding with flawless clarity, there is a vague lack of lighting that heightens the ethereal atmosphere, making the entire room generally dim.
"Heh. Enjoying yourself?"
A dark silhouette detached itself from a multitude of shadows created by the dim lighting, crossing slim arms in a nonchalant pose. You only nod numbly in response to this unidentified individual, unable to fathom who this person was and what she—that drawling voice was most definitely feminine—wanted. Seemingly satisfied with your reply, she gestures vaguely to the side of the room, inclining her head. "Continue looking, then. You'll see."
See what? Frankly, you couldn't puzzle her enigmatic words.
Nevertheless, you turn away from her to continue taking in the arcane, otherworldly features of this room. Refraining from commenting as the girl dissolved into the shadows once more, your mouth falls agape as you catch sight of a magnificent waterfall towering high above you at the end of the room, to the left side of a grand staircase decked with fine silver velvet. Crystalline waters, clear with purity, greet your probing gaze as you trace the outlines of the cascading waters with great intrigue. Like a natural waterfall, this one gently pours into a spring of water in which numerous pebbles and rocks reside, gently splashing spray on nearby objects.
Turning your focus away from the waterfall and noting the overall white, gold, silver, and black color scheme of the room, you look to the other side of the grand staircase. There, you spot a large, pond-like structure made of rock and filled with clear, clean water. Upon further observation, you spot many species of beautiful fish swimming about within the clear waters, swishing their dainty, dress-like tails to and fro as they dart through the pond. A distinct sign is pinned onto the top of a rock in clear view that reads: 'DO NOT THROW FOREIGN OBJECTS INSIDE THE POND.' Sheepishly, you wave to the fish a bit, turning before you can see their responses, and continue looking through the room.
It's a wonder how you missed one of the more prominent features of the room, though. Sitting in the direct center of the room is a beautiful fountain. This gigantic fountain has numerous fish statures arching into the air, jetting water dozens of feet into the air that fans out gorgeously before, unable to defy gravity, cascading gently back into the rippling waters. These fish statues are arranged in the shape of a plus sign, their formation allowing the water to arc in the air as the numerous jets of water ejected from their mouths intersect in midair. The pool of water upon which the fish sit is in the shape of a square, encompassed by marble. There is large ledge at its perimeter, allowing passersby to sit down and relax near the water—a privilege that isn't granted by the waterfall or pond nearby, which are there for viewing only.
Soon see the most obvious feature of the room—the many doors located at its sides. Each one appears to actually be an open doorway—albeit an ornate one with gracefully swirling designs—however, the doorways themselves are not what make yours eyes bug out and openly gape. It is the swirling vortexes of colors beyond them that amaze you. The vortexes themselves appear to be myriads of grand colors—white, gold, black, and silver—each mixing together at sections and dominating certain areas of the vortexes. Stepping forward cautiously, you poke a vortex with a single finger. The substance of the vortex there ripples gently upon contact, and soon, words appear upon the front of the vortex in plain view:
A small smile makes its way onto your face. Stepping back a bit, you catch sight of a glimmering key in the corner of the doorway. Second glances to the other doorways reveal that only some doorways are truly open—most appear sealed off by heavy, ornate locks. Feeling daring as confidence swells up in your heart, you take one last look at the Great Hall before stepping forth into the vortex you were previously looking at, unaware that your current status—due to the point you are merely a fresh newbie within the ranks of this guild—is the infamous "Donkey" key level...
