Weakness: A childhood friend turned lover threatens to turn him from the path he chose when he was no more than seven years old

Powers: Being of royal blood he is has access to the magic available to only those of that line, including such feats as farseeing, mind probing, telekinesis if one is close to the object trying to manipulate. However such skills take a great toll on the user unless they have studied their entire life learning to control them.
He also has a secret magic, one not restricted by family of birth but also one seen as evil and will land him with a torturous death sentence should he be found out, especially by the superstious. It allows him to communicate with animals and eventually take one animal to be his constant companion. It is those with this magic who are blamed when crops fail and the like even when they have nothing to do with them

Abilities: Like all young courtiers, he has learnt to ride, fight, dance, read and write. However he is bared from such lessons as warfare strategy and the like. During the night his lessons continue with the current court assassin who lives in a chamber accessable only through the walls of the castle where he has learnt to kill a man without him making a sound, poisons and their cures, stealth and the like.

Weapons: Like all of his age in court he has learnt to use a range of weapons, though he lacks the finese needed for a sword (though he manages with one) instead being better with a bow or a dagger due to his night time training. He is also quite good with an axe but that is seen as a commoner's weapon.

Animal Companion: A black wolf pup once wandered close to the town while name was out riding with a porquipine quill stuck in its mouth. Taking pitty on it name took the quill out and the pup followed him back. The two became fast friends, even though the pup hides in a dug out hollow under the barn lest he be killed.

Relationship Status: He loves a childhood friend, a commoner, and is close friends with the court fool, a pale boy (or is it a girl masquading as a boy?) around his own age. The stable master is a father figure for him a man in his mid forties who is harsh but kind and caring also.

Family: He doesn't remember his mother or his mother's family as he now lives with his father's people. His father died not long after his arrival to court when he was six years old. His grandfather, the king, is a stern but kindly man, the one who took his oath to serve and survive before he was old enough to know what it would mean. He has two living uncles, one he is fond of and who is kind to him, if a little distant, and the younger one, about ten years his senior who openly despises him and goes out of his way to make his life miserable. His father was the eldest and heir to the throne before he died but he has little claim to it due to the illigitimacy of his birth. His grandfather's sister, his great aunt Constance, dotes on him though he doesn't like it much as she enforces cleanliness.

Physical Descriptions: Slight and dark he takes after his mother, whoever she may be, except for his eyes which are the same stormy grey of his father's line. He is rather short with a mop of dark hair always getting in his eyes and, like a typical child, is nearly always dirty getting in and out of some scrape or another. But Constance is always ready to scold him for having to mend clothes and hand out clean ones, scrubbing his skin till it is pink and clean.

Personality: Generally quiet and cautious, he has within him to become a great leader had he been born legitamately. He has no ambitions to become king, however. Around his friends he can be playful and fun-loving, but mostly he is watchful, noticing things most would pass over.

Background: Being brought to the castle when he was six by his mother's father he remembers little of her or her people. He was accepted into the keep, given a name and not long after was tempted by a secret door mysteriously opening in his room. Being a naturally curious boy he naturally followed it to find the court assassin in his rooms between the walls of the castle. From that moment on he takes an oath (at only seven) to survive the court intrigues and become an assassin, never to raise against those of legitimate birth to the crown rather than be killed.


This is mostly from the book Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb and I thought he would be an interesting character to play and see where others take him. If you have any interest post and let me know razz
