THE PURPLE ONION
my poems don't start with a bead of black ink and a paradoxical title across an ivory page and they don't finish with their beginnings, they don't do as they're told and they certainly don't play well with others.
-Claire Williams
After starting my haiku game in the Contests and Games subforum of this guild, it seems that a great many poets have emerged in our midst. Which is AWESOME. So, here is a thread where we can share our poetry and leave our thoughts or comments on other poets' works.
So...POST AWAY! Let's see what beautiful poetry has been hidden among us.
FUN FACT: At my high school, there was a little beatnik poetry session for all the seniors in the poetry unit that the senior English teachers put together. It was pretty awesome and I shared some poetry there. Anyway, the name of the session was "The Purple Onion," so I decided to steal that title and use it here. I mean, there's purple in it. Which automatically makes it epic. So, ya know... :3
A BRIEF REQUEST: I have a poetry collection for English class due Friday and I decided to theme mine. It will be based around the subject of music. So, if any of you wonderful poets have poetry about music, post them and I'll take a look. I think I might need around five or six more to go into my collection (including a poem about poetry, but preferably also about music at the same time; I know, that's ridiculous so maybe I'll just write that one). THANK YOU! C:

I walk alone down this dreary road. My life is filled with pain for I have no one to comfort me. Suddenly you appear! You say not a word but we keep each other company as we continue on. We walk but a short while when we reach the end and burst out into the sunshine! We smile at each other then turn and walk our separate ways but know that if we are ever in need, the other will be there to walk that road again.

and another
Descend into Darkness
Descending into Darkness all i can feel is fear. My life passes before me as i drift. i can feel his breath, ever closer he draws. facing my fears i turn to confront that which is my enemy. quickly, swiftly, around i turn, and there before me stands DEATH.
For facing your fears and facing me you have earned my respect. I will not take your life today. go, go forward and face life as it is meant to be faced, with courage, compassion, and yes, fear. descend into darkness no longer my child and drift into the light the light of life and LIVE

This is my all time favorite poem, but it was not written by me..... A promise to keep I do believe the lord above, Created you for me to love. he picked me out of all the rest, because he knew I'd love you best. I had a heart and it was true. But now it's gone from me to you. Take care of it as i have done, For you have two and I have none. If i shall die before you do, In heaven I will wait for you. If you're not there by judgement day, I'll know you've gone the other way. So I'll return my angel's wings, Golden halo and other things. And just to prove my love is true, I'll go to HELL and wait for you. Written by: Carolyn McMullen

Another poem written by me when i was in high school..... Reason for leaving
Why did you leave us? Did he call for you? Telling you that it was time? Why did you not tell anyone? Did he tell you not to? If he did, I understand.
Life is always like a puzzle, You have to put in the right pieces. Make a mistake, And that could be the end.
I am still not sure about the ending, but like I said, I wrote this poem about 15 years ago smile

You sure about this lol...I used to write Big time and got one even published!!!
Here is my newest one.... These words that you spoke the other night Were they real or fake? How can you say something so sweet only to have it turn out to be lies? Loved the emotions you invoked Im unsure why I feel this way or even if you care As life goes on, we learn to see that somethings will and will not be Are my thoughts worth the pain? As time goes by what will remain When you look at me, What do you see? It is for you I write these words! I'll dream a dream, that won't come true No more thinking will be done You gave me smiles when there was nothing but tears. You gave me courage when there was fear.

Another one I love, I don't remember if I wrote it or took it from someone because I liked it so much, lol
All I want is you
I'll tell it rather simply I'd say it plain and true A single thing is all I want And all I want is you
There are no other riches Treasures or possessions That ever could compare with you My fondest of obsessions
You are the very air I breathe The ration that sustains me You're all my thoughts tied as one The laugh that entertains me
You're all that life need ever give The maximum that's due If I could ask for anything I'd only ask for you

Here is one that I wrote, back in high school....
MY DEAR FRIEND
I never like to say goodbye, 'cause then I always break and cry. I know I'll never see you again, But you'll always still be my dear friend.
I'll keep the memories in my heart. Every one right from the start, And everyone until the end. You really are still my dear friend.
I love you dearly, I'll never forget About you, and I'll never let, Another person make me forget you. Because I STILL LOVE YOU.

I have to say, a lot of my poems that I wrote while in high school are sad and depressing, not sure why my feelings were like that at that time in my life.....I never was depressed, to my knowledge. My poems just reflected sadness and that........

I don't write poems, the poems write me. They'd just bubble up from somewhere within, and god help me I had better have paper handy. They came out pretty often during my more turbulent years. Not as often now though.
So would you perfer I post them all here (will be a BIG post), or just link to the page I have them at?
A lot of mine are about sadness, growth, change, magic, and spirituality...

Razzy1977 As life goes on, we learn to see that somethings will and will not be The whole poem was lovely, though I loved those two lines in particular! They just play on the tongue.

This one was written about me from a dear friend of mine
Times to be remembered....
In Search of love, many nights this cat has prowled
Holding you close, was it your stomach or mine that growled?
Not wanting to be a peasant or a farmer
Wanting to be your night in shining armor
Inviting you over for many sleepless nights
Sharing laughter with you in tickle fights
Wanting to prepare you for a special dish
Who would have thought you'd like spaghetti and tunafish
Picking you up was easy, your light as a feather
For you I have bicycled through the fowlest weather
Playing frisbee with you was more than fun
Remember, if it heads straight for your mouth, RUN!!
Showing up for your lunch studyhall to talk
Attempting to embarrass you on every walk
Remember the time we went to the mall
Who ended up looking like cousin IT by nightfall
Being a witch all your life wouldn't be swift
Dead marine mammals will be your precious gift
First saying your positive, then your not!
Such indecisiveness, are you sure your not on pot?
I'll always keep your artwork on my wall
Why is it at Carousel, you always get a bouncy ball?
Remember me always, keep my number handy
A bit of advice, stick with the wine coolers and stay away from the brandy
