Hi everyone! I hope the new year is proving a good one. I decided to get off my meds. The Lithium was not working on it's own and couldn't be raised (I went toxic) so they tried adding an anti-psychotic - Risperidone- well that made me gain weight and my blood sugars shot up through the roof...so I got off it all (still taking my sleeping meds though) I'm just hoping all goes well. I'm over all withdrawl effects and actually feel a bit better right now - I just hope that lasts! My dreams are back and 100% more vivid than before so I'm adjusting to that as they haven't all been good ones, but otherwise I seem fairly stable right now. It's hard though, every day I wonder "will I stay OK off meds?" So far so good! It's also strange to eat for the sake of being hungry and not because I have to to get a pill down me. I've gone unmedicated before but the ride's only lasted about 6 months before I start to crash ... I'm hoping to out-do that this time because I don't think there's any medicine out there I can take anymore without worse side-effects than taking none at all!

how long have you been of your meds? I hope you did it slowly, and didn't just go off them all at once, because that could harm you and your body. just becareful, and if you do notice that you are starting to go back to the way you were, i would maybe rethink about meds, even if all they do is keep you stable.

No worries...I have been careful...I did this under the supervision of my psycho-therapist and Dr. I also have 12 years experience at being diagnosed and properly medicated, or trying for that time and time again...I've actually had my disorders for 34 years! So I know what's going on and will know if I need to try some new drug again...I hope I don't though! Starting/trying new drugs is never fun - but if I need to, I need to and I know that! I have to stay stable for my kids!

Wow, I don't last more than a couple of days without my medication. Good luck, dearie.

Thanks!!! I'm doing quite well so far, it's been about 6-8 weeks now. I'm finding when things get tough or I'm spending too much time dwelling on stuff that brings me down I try to do something else to get my mind in a better place.
