its better to psyche yourself up, then be completely relieved!
I mean, it would've been way more embarrassing if you had gone in totally Joe Cool and then puked on your piercer, or cried or something, right?! domokun

Oh, no worries! I just got a piercing two days ago that was my first professional piercing. Yep. Done in a tattoo studio and everything. I felt ill once I saw the equipment. Of course, it was only my upper ear- my sixth ear pierce, yay!- but still, that needle looked sharp.
I think its better to be ready for pain rather than being taken by surprise. It's not stupid; it's an admission that yes, there will be pain, but by being ready for it you feel that much better you didn't scream and blubber like a small child.
I actually felt a lot worse later when I was combing my hair and accidently bumped the new 'ring. Compared to the actual piercing, it was worse.
I like it better than the gun. I wonder if it is more painful for the tongue to be pierced... (Damn. I must wait a few years to find out.)

Oh. I cried when I got my ears pierced (with a gun) and fainted when I got my first lip piercing. Not due to the pain I think, I was just shocked xD

Ha, I think It's pretty normal to be nervous. when I got my eyebrow done, I was nervous, but as I evolved to get more piercings (monroe, snakebites...>.>...) it's like a walk in the park. just takes time to get used to. =]

I found out at an early age that I have a dangerously high pain-tolerance, so whenever I went for my first piercing/tattoo I was a little psyched, but ended up actually very mad because of all the adrenaline left over from no pain.
So I don't really fret anymore, hahah.
