The Actual Roleplay Thread

The cast is going to be kept fairly small so that I can manage not to strain myself trying to work you all into the story--another way, also, to keep you all active. And leave plenty of opportunity to have back-up players that I might just ask to TAKE OVER YOUR CHARACTER If you do not fulfill your obligations. ^^ Which probably won't happen, but I want to warn you.. I'll do anything to get this roleplay finished. Fair?

There are 0 more openings! (The other applicants have applied to Sethy via RL or e-mail.)

Fill this out, please!

Name:
Age: (You can generalize if you need)
Race: (If you're gonna make one up, tell me everything about it.)
IM: (Not a requirement, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have one. o_o)
Background: If you don't wanna share it with other people, you can message this part to me specifically. I'd like to know everything you can think of so I can make this RP specific to all of us.

Hmmm, I suppose this would be the place to ask questions in...

Before I make a character, I would like to know: what the level of technology is? I know you mentioned flying machines in the story but I just want to be sure. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Nothing is a stupid question, dear. XD The level of technology is medieval fantasy. If you've played Final Fantasy Tactics? There. In the past it was Final Fantasy 12... years back.. there are airships and maybe the occasional machine that was a mix of technology and magic.. and then all fell to ruin and the technology was lost. ^^ That help you?

yes it does indeed...

now to choose which character to use... cause I have two that popped into my head but I can't quite decide on just one....

You can always write up both and I could tell you which would be better for the story at hand, if you'd like.

sounds good to me, I get so indecisive when I create multiple charicters at once... ._.

Name: Marcus Aurellius
Age: 21
Race: Human, (Painter).
IM: IveGotUrRiotGear
Background: Marcus is generally quite, mostly because of how he doesn't really know anyone else. Marcus is nice to generally everyone since he has had little contact with the kami.

Marcus was born into a very secretive family of humans that saw themselves as more of a clan than family since their numbers are larger than that of any normal family. They call themselves Painters and have some rather strange beliefs and traditions. Painters believe that the human body is a perfect form, flawless and beautifull, however, they believe that the face's features disrupt the curves and form of the body. Because of this, each member wears a mask, the simpler the better. These masks keep the roundness of the head and bring a smoothness of the face by covering the nose, eyes etc. Also, because of this unusual belief they wear as little clothes as possible and have no piercings. The only clothes they do wear are usually form fitting shorts for the males and a similarly form fitting top and bottom for the females, only to be decent of course.

But that's not the only thing that sets them apart from normal humans. They practice a bizarre form of magic that involves tattoos of intricate designs. These tattoos grant the wearer unlimited use of whatever spell the tattoo's design allows. Each tattoo represents one spell and they generally are not permanent. Because of this Painters, for which they got their names, apply tattoos with markers straight onto their bodies or an inanimate object to allow the quick use of a spell. The best of these can create a tattoo of impressive intricacy in a matter of seconds, thus named as an elite few called Quick Draws. They keep their bodies as built as possible, not just because it makes them strong, but also because it gives them a greater surface area for their "art".

Being able to draw tattoos on a living thing is very dangerous because the magical properties kill more people than naught when first applied to a body. Therefore, most humans who have a magical tattoo put onto their body die within minutes because of the shock and pain. Once one has survived the initial tattooing, they are set for life, being able to apply as many tattoos as possible. After years and generations, the application of tattoos to their own body has become easier for them as opposed to any other person.

At the ripe age of five, Marcus was taken from his parents and desensitized. The family of Painters instilled a form of training that involved brutal rules and hard physical training. If you wanted something, you were told to take it and if anyone stood in your place you beat them into an inch of their lives. While part of the physical training, he had been severely beaten by other kids his age but was never allowed to die. The adults made sure of that. Once Marcus came of age (around 12) he left that harsh training and was put into training that was far more militaristic, the Painters were clan of warriors but not by mere brute strength. They formed techniques, taught strategy, and above all, how to bear pain of any sort.

As part of the militaristic training, the Painters were taught about far more gentle subjects. The Painters knew the importance of knowledge and had brought in texts from the outside world to keep their knowledge up to date. The Painters knew what the kami were but few had ever knowingly run into one. So, for most of his life, Marcus lived a very secluded life. However, once his military training was through, Marcus moved onto a far more deadly stage in his training.

Marcus entered his final stage of becoming the Painter. Now, all Painter children could draw the incantations needed for spells at a young age. But at this age, he started in on the far more complex ones. First, he trained in the drawing of the most difficult incantations, being able to harness their power and use them at will. Second, he learned the designs of countless tattoos. He was ambidexterous which made him a quick favourite as a candidate to become a Quick Draw. At the age of 18 he was given the final task, apply a tattoo to his own body under a certain time limit. If he survived and was fast enough, he would not only become a Painter, but a Quick Draw. His first tattoo was alarming to everyone around him. It was permanent, which wasn't an uncommon thing to happen, but was going to be applied to the bottom of his tongue. This was incredibly dificult because the design was bound with an uniquely rare incantation, created by Marcus, and had to be impossibly small and thus intricate because the bottom of the tounge was an extremely small and painfull place to apply a tattoo.

The application took the good part of a day, which was insanely fast for a permanent tattoo of such difficulty. Shudders of pain were sent through Marcus' body as he worked. When he was finished he was alive but there was still the binding of the spell to his body that had to take place. The adults gathered around him, even other physicians from outside the clan that were adept in healing tried to keep him alive. But everyone knew nothing would help, it just made them feel less helpless knowing that they tried. After a week of being comatose Marcus shot up very much alive, everyone was extatic, his speed and survival made him the best Quick Draw currently alive.

The tattoo on the bottom of his tongue changed Marcus' mouth and lungs, making them capable of expelling massive shock waves capable of turning boulders to gravel and tearing a whole in sheets of metal. Since the shockwave is, in essence, rapidly vibrating molecules in the air propelled by supersonic waves, Marcus can also expel massive gusts of wind or sound.

Marcus immediately became a sort of hero and was sent out into the world as the perfect human weapon. He stands at 6'2" and his body is covered in thick, toned muscle from years of harsh training. His only belongings are the pair of shorts he wears, a long dagger attatched to the belt, an assortment of markers that are used for body magic, and a bag of random items.

sorry this one was quite long ^

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Name: Fabre Lafayette
Age: 21
Race: Human/Touch(kami)
IM: IveGotUrRiotGear
Background: Fabre is a good person, he strives to do his best and to help others whenever possible. Fabre tends to be a sort of push over and shies away from any sort of confrontation that is more serious than a simple argument. However, a certain anomaly seems to change his persona more and more often. This anomaly occurs at random intervals and during such an anomaly Fabre is no longer the push over he once was. Sometimes, he has even pushed back. The anomaly is thought to be a sort of second personality taking over when actually, there's something else inside of him influencing his decisions. It is a sadistic and very cynical "personality" that Fabre does not entirely try to fight off when it takes control. At times he even can forget what he had just done.
Fabre lived in a distant village on the very outskirts of one of the major cities that only a person with a deep knowledge of ancient history would even recall. The village of Jihran used to be a flourishing and influential village even in its small size. Jihran was home to a people who had uncovered a way to bind one's soul to a sort of spectral kami, an oni, that had plagued the village for many years, thus putting a stop to their destructive ways.
This kami was not like any mentioned in fairytales or in reality, it was raw and even primal it seemed. Its body was of a human form but every feature was inky black and it had no face. It was called a Touch and aptly named for its unique ability. A Touch could actually choose what it wanted to touch however it did have its limits. It could choose whether or not to Touch a physical object or person that had not been enchanted with magic (meaning a protective spell on them, you can't get away with just being a magic user). A Touch did not have the same choice in regards to magic however, a Touch was quite 'sensitive' to certain arts of magic. It did have other abilities as well that made it stand out: a vampiric abillity to absorb heat energy from air, fire or living being, and the ability to warp its body and shape shift to a degree. When a Touch was bound to a human's soul it gave the human a complementary ability to produce pure heat waves that could be propelled at a foe. If a Touch had absorbed enough heat energy it could then pass that heat on to its human partner, and if there was enough of it the human could be able to emit lightning instead of heat waves.
The Touch were bound to the villagers' souls and could then reside in the human's body. However, soon it was apparent how truly evil a creature a Touch was. Touch could not control their human counterpart but could influence their descisions. Many people of Jihran were corrupted and became hostile. Some even left Jihran and committed horrible murders and atrocities. Because of this, a group of mages from the large city near by had the people of Jihran exorcised. The Touch expected their kami brethren to come to their help, but even the kami held distaste for the Touch and their semingly primal ways. The village was quarantined and zealously gaurded because of the "Touch outbreak". Certain measures were taken to ensure nothing like this ever happened again. And as far as they know, no one in Jihran has bound their soul to a Touch since.
That happened too many years ago to count, long before Fabre was born and out of the memories of anyone alive today. Fabre lived his life quietly and quite normally in Jihran. A few of the village elders who were still alive could recall the once prosperous days of Jihran and its downfall. One or two were even bitter because of how the quarantine utterly decimated its economy. Fabre's first "mood swing" happened when he was ten. He was at school and being bullied. Fabre was quite used to this because of his passive nature and didn't mind as long as he didn't get hurt physically. One of the bullies pushed him down and Fabre snapped, it was as if somethone had whispered something in his ears. He scrambled up with a smooth rock in hand and layed the bully out flat with a quick tap to the head. That was by far the most violent act he had taken, and has since taken because of his "mood swings". Everyone brushed it off, the young man who was hit with the rock wasn't seriously hurt and even apologized later to Fabre. Fabre would have apologized as well had some unspoken command insided of him kept him from it. The next "mood swing" was about a year and a half later but wasn't as outstanding as the first. The relapses started to shorten in interval and no one knew what it was. The few elders, the few who remembered the Touch, had a latent fear that was becoming evident. Had some Touch survived the quarantine and the excorsims? They couldn't be for sure but always kept a fearfull eye on Fabre. Once, they even asked Fabre, when he was twelve, whether or not he had encounter a 'strange being' when he was young. Fabre had. He would have told them so but the same unspoken voice advised him otherwise.
Jihran prided itself in the training of its defenses. Several exceptional soldiers and tacticians exited Jihran's gates. Fabre got the same kind of exceptional training. even his anomalous behavior was suited to his being a good fighter. His trainers even welcomed the relapses during sparring bouts. It didn't matter how good of a fighter Fabre was, his natural personality still caused him to keep from utilizing his prowess outside of the training room.
Finally the intervals of the "mood swings" were getting so frequent that the elders could not ignore the threat and sent Fabre out of the village to get some medical/magical attention. Tensions had built up so much that the village, the trees, the people, the stones, and even the animals seemed breathe a sigh of relief when Fabre passed out of Jihran's gates.
yeah... I'm going to feel dumb if IM really does mean Instant Messenger... >.>
EDITED
It meant instant messenger, dear. I'm sorry. ^^
And while both are great, beautiful characters, there are distinct issues with the second.. as in, I recently told another person who was joining he couldn't do that sort of thing (put oni's pieces into himself or seal oni inside him). Lmao. I know I didn't give you any notice, so I apologize.
Plus, the two main characters already established are half-breeds, so I'm shying away from having too many of them as they are a rarity and we'd be a band of them. So, as beautiful as the second character is, you should save him for a different RP. XD Love them both! You're awesome and in!
And the pictures will help with my banner. Am drawing us all in. XD
"Marcus broke the tree line of the forest that surrounded his secluded village. For the first time since he had left, glorious rays of sunlight shone down upon his bare skin unhindered by a canopy of leaves. The tall man tilted his head towards the heavens and lifted his sinewy arms as if to embrace the sky. The sun's rays warmed his body considerably as he took his first step into the change of scenery. Marcus let his arms fall limply to his sides as he continued his walk. His long stride carried him comfortably over the meadow the human had stumbled upon. Before, Marcus had left the village with fervor and a purpose, but now he was content to idle in the sunlight.
Marcus walked bare footed through the meadow, taking care to avoid the sparse flora that dotted the ground. He turned his head lazily to the side and immediately straightened up. He had almost missed it entirely, there was a building far off to his right. It looked quite old, but that wasn't what had intrigued Marcus the most. It was the size of the building, a castle perhaps, and in the middle of nowhere. Things just didn't add up in Marcus' mind. Such a large building with no access to roads or even a water source. He swung his head and appraised his surroundings to make sure this assumption was correct.
He stood gazing at the looming structure in the distance. Then, with his curiosity peaked, he swung his long gait towards the castle. His steps were confident as he slowly closed the distance between him and the building. Just in case, a hand fidgetted close to his side, then grabbed a marker that was hanging from his belt. As he walked he drew. Thick loops, swirls and turns danced across his naked left arm. In a matter of seconds the tattoo was complete; insurance if something should turn foul. Marcus was still a fair distance from the building, but he had made progress."
This was Jang's first post--had to be deleted for a few reasons that are all my fault. Forgive me, Jang. I just wanted to leave it here for you in case you wanted to take pieces of it.
I was not clear in my setting, the intro post is a story starter, not a... uhm... action presser.
Before you post your intro, please re read the setting for me? I fixed it up so it actually has a setting where you will start.
