Almost twenty years ago, the United State government funded a scientific evaluation of the crater in the Yucatan Peninsula, in Mexico. For some time, the crater was believed to have been the landing point for the phenomenal meteor that collided with the Earth and wrought doom for the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.
Geologists and archaeologists collaborated to collect samples of the meteor, hoping to learn more about the world outside the world as humans knew it. To find new minerals or substances from outer space would be a discovery to rival the first fossil being uncovered in the 18th century.
What they found as they dug deeper and deeper was indeed what they had hoped: an entire layer of never before recorded material - similar to stone - that had been implanted at the end of the Mesozoic Era.
Only several scientists found this calamitous surprise at first. A deep tunnel delved down into the Earth's crust, caused by an ancient fissure that the impact had spawned. Three geologists and an archaeologist ventured down into the stratum to investigate, all properly trained for this sort of expedition - and eager for the potential discovery.
What they found along their way was the meteor itself, still heavily radioactive and even warm to the touch.
However, something else happened on this downward voyage.
Fragments of the meteorite had come apart, and in collecting them, the four scientists found that the meteor had a singularly specific ability to assimilate to who-so-ever picked the subject up.
The first to realize this had a silver dollar size disk of meteorite immediately meld around his thumb and forefinger. It then seemed to migrate up his hand to his wrists, where it wrapped around and banded itself, similar to a bracelet, though more accurately, a part of his flesh. He found it impossible to remove by any means.
The second was a cautious man who "accidentally" made contact with a much larger piece, having stumbled on the pathway and down a side cove. There he was greeted by a fist-size, trapezoid-shaped stone from space, which bonded with his exposed face and traveled down to his neck, where it wrapped solidly as a neck band.
The third and forth were wary, until they began to notice the differences in their companions as they traveled deeper. Their reflexes were uncannily improved, able almost to predict the moment when their footing would slip, or when a stalactite might fall from above.
Intrigued by these "improvements", they sought to claim their own pieces, larger, or more than one.
They soon found pieces, the size of their heads and legs, and collected them into their being.
The world seemed to change around them as they melded with the otherworldly substance.
Before the four explorers returned to the surface, they communed. The two greedy scientists thought to keep their secret just that - private. However, the other two thought the world needed to study these mysterious materials, and were hard at work trying to find a way to transport the meteorite parts to the surface without being bonded to it.
The greedy scientists disagreed and privately conferred to one another. They came to the conclusion that the discovery could not be made public.
The night after the four had returned to the dig site above the caverns, the two scientists who pushed to announce their discovery were killed - along with every other dig crewmember. The cavern beneath the peninsula was also covered.
When the remaining scientists got to the authorities, they reported the deaths as an act of Mexican rebels. They returned to the US within the week, where they reported nothing of interest at the dig site - it was a complete failure, hundreds of thousands of dollars of research wasted on a site that was faulty.
------
The two greedy scientists have gone back to the dig site many times, though never collecting more meteorite. They have made astounding discoveries - never published - about the effects of the stones that are part of their physiology. They became professors at a college in Mexico City, and proceeded to grow wealthy and powerful.
It is from them that the coming crises will be announced, after an amazing discover deep inside the caverns they once visited two decades before.
Fossils have been found in the meteorite.
It appears as though it was not a meteorite at all, but a giant craft.
------
Ten days ago, a meteorite the size and shape of Norway was spotted on a direct collision course with the Earth. It was estimated that it is cataclysmic enough to completely wipe life - down to the tiniest of bacteria - from the planet.
Eight days ago, the two scientists made a discovery about the life forms that traveled in the meteorite. They were carbon-based life-forms with thin, durable skeletons and varied vastly. Two dozen variations were discovered during their investigation. With extensive study, they realized that the climate shift that in reality killed the dinosaurs was only partially caused by the popular theory - dust being kicked up into the atmosphere, blocking the sun and thus cooling the planet.
The life-forms required carbon dioxide to survive, much as humans need air. At the end of the Mesozoic era, CO2 levels were much higher, thus providing a nice atmosphere for the dense rain forests - and for these life-forms.
In the end, it was, in fact those forests that forced the extinction of said life-forms, or presumably their migration to another, more suitable planet. The plants had eaten up the life-forms' fuel, and they were not able to take in the proper amounts, thusly dying.
After all, no trace had been found of them anywhere but in the crater, more specifically, inside the meteorite. The going theory for this is the decomposition rate, much faster due to some unknown catalyst in the outside atmosphere, away from the enclosed meteorite.
It is with this in mind that the two scientists conclude that the monstrous meteor approaching Earth can only be another meteorite with these organisms.
Unfortunately, they predict that a lot has changed in 65 million years.
------
A bizarre turn of events verified the two colleagues' thoughts. The meteorite, hurling at massive speeds initially, slowed to just outside of Earth's atmosphere and hovered for a day, just between the third planet and its satellite.
After twenty-three hours and forty-seven minutes, it broke apart into seven pieces - presumably one for each continent. As they descended into the atmosphere, this proved incorrect: Antarctica was left untouched by the several pieces.
These pieces hovered over their crash sites, almost fifty kilometers above. The sites were distributed according roughly to continent: one in North America, over New Mexico in the middle of the desert; South America, in the Andes Mountain range; Europe, in the Alps; Southern Asia, in the Himalayan Mountain range; Northern Asia, in the depths of the frozen prison, Siberia; consumed by the Sahel in Africa; and the last on the isolated continent of Australia in the far southeast.
The impact in the American state of New Mexico killed dozens with its monstrous shockwave and ensuing dust storms. All of the meteorites seemed to have landed in roughly uninhabited areas, limiting the casualties that mankind faced. Surely more direct hits would have wrought distaste and panic amongst the masses, although the situation already had the eyes of the public for what it may or may not be. Disarray instantly presented itself in the metropolitan areas, while more rural and smaller cities seemed more pacific.
The two surviving scientists had immediately filed with the American Government, using their superior credentials to assume leadership for an excavation dg on American turf. They were eagerly accepted under strict conditions – their finds not be publicized in any way without government approval; they would be accompanied by a scientific team on the country’s pay-roll; and additionally, they would be under the command of a prestigious American General with a full complement of Military Personnel of non-specific origins.

The innards of the massive meteorite were crude, but fashionable for the nameless crew inside. The seven sent to follow-up on the last infiltration had arrived in a cryogenic state, and had been awakened for the last ten Earth days.
Roughly when they would have allowed themselves to be detected by human technology.
Now, gathered around a central podium, they conferred casually and quietly, each unique in their appearance save for the aspect that all but one was completely black, down to the eyes which were each a different color.
The only being whose head was not covered was hairless. The dark receded from his cranium past his neck to his clavicle, where it began to consume his body in a black skin-like casing that was permanently affixed above his epidermis. He lead the seven in their mission to this lowly planet.
But upon fixating outside the atmosphere and scanning briefly the planet, it became apparent that their prior attempt was a failure. While none of these individuals were alive 65 million years before, the records show that their ancestors - having remained static in evolutionary terms - sent a smaller piece of stone to this planet without Guides, simply to release and germinate the drones on the planet in preparation for the second wave.
This was that second contact.
However, the absence of the drones on the planet was appaling, but of no consequence. It had been theorized, and such was the second contact's purpose, to adapt with a newer breed of drones, enhanced with the stone and set to conquer the planet.
Samples from the planet's atmosphere revealed the reason for the failure: the levels of substances in the air had changed dramatically, and had killed off the drones, allowing other species to prosper.
Shortly before the seven separated, they embraced as a group, offered comforting words and promises of victory.
They then set out.
------
He with the blue eyes, both pale and electric blue eyes, landed in the Northern Hemisphere on the third continent. Quickly and precisely after landing, he set about releasing the quickly awakening drones. Some were aware already of their purpose, stumbling out into the oxygenated atmosphere and quickly adapting with ragged and deformed coughs. They were soon flooding out into the surrounding terrain.
They multiplied quickly. They were efficient. They were deadly.
And they followed orders directly, without question.
Conquest would be simple.

Applying/Characters

To apply, PM me with the profile below; The purpose of having limited physical descriptions is to promote detailed introduction posts.

Character Name:
Gender:
Age:
Role: (How you're involved in the plot. Keep it brief. Example: college student under one or both of the professors.)
Vitals: (Height and weight only)
Appearance: (Hair and eye color only)
Background: (Detail beats length anyday, therefore you can make a detailed background with under two paragraphs. Aim for two paragraphs, please.)
Extra: (Hobbies, pastimes, habits. Basically anything that doesn't fit anywhere else goes here.)
Roleplaying Sample: (Self-explanatory. This is to weed out the idiots. If you could prove some sort of prowess relating to your character’s specific field or interests, it would greatly affect the chance of being accepted.)

BlankValentine
Character Name: Duncan Johanssen
Gender: Male
Age: 44
Role: Professor
Vitals: 5'9"; 153lbs.
Appearance: Graying at the temples; dark blue
Background: Duncan was part of the original four that descended into the caverns to investigate the crater. After combining 21% with the meteorite, he found himself extremely self-satisfied. Pompous, arrogant, and observant, he has steadily increased his influence in the United States and Europe though meetings and seminars primarily on geology, although he also majors in physics and biology.
With the meteorite attached to both of his forearms in a fashionable pattern, he is always seen wearing long sleeve dress shirts, typical for a professor of his echelon. The effects of the meteorite mostly enhance his dexterity, allowing for precision accuracy with many projectile weapons, including, but not limited to, pistols, rifles, in archery, and with throwing. It also aids his handwriting, allowing him to mimic instantly any signature. His hands and arms are extremely coordinated, even moreso than the rest of his upgraded anatomy.
Extra: Duncan partakes in regular physical activity, determined to ward off his age with exercise and study. He has a habit of constantly surveying the area, as if paranoid.

1. Follow the Gaian TOS (Terms Of Service).

2. Follow the Gaian Rules & Guidelines.

3. No god moding. "God moding" is the control of other characters who have not gone into NPC mode. You may control generic characters who are not played, such as random Unawares roaming the streets as your character walks, but no more than that.

4. Romance? Yes. Raunchy? No. Keep it tasteful; When you have made it beyond clothing then you have gone way too far. Use your good judgement.

5. Concerning literacy, I will accept semi-literate; you can not grow if you remain with mediocrity. However, I will not accept the following:
  • One lined posts. If you need to stretch, include a character thought, scene description, or acute movements. It really helps.
  • Sentences with no attempt at punctuation: she is the most pretty girl in the whole sity she looked at jake and says I love you
  • Computer speak. None of this "1337" nonsense.
  • OOC, acronyms (OOC, for example, is an acronym for Out Of Character) are acceptable, but I will tolerate none of this: He looks at the girl and says, "I'll bbl. Ttyl. Tccic."

    6. Concerning races, this roleplay has no alternate races available besides human. The "alien leaders" will be controlled by a host or appointed moderator, should any be inducted.

    7. Concerning the meteorite fragments/pieces, different pieces act differently roughly according to size and existing conditions in the host. Example, naturally agile people are furthered by assimilation with the stone. Another would be physical strength. This is assumed for a 5% or less assimilation. This means that 5% or less of the total body mass is credited to the meteorite. 5 - 10% includes the aforementioned alteration, and resistance to disease, or foreign substance. This goes as far as alcohol and drugs. Existing conditions will still exist if terminal. 10 - 15% includes the prior two additions, and resistance to temperature. Example would be a resistance to heat and cold relative to the rough percent. This means 14% offers more resistance than 11%. 15 - 20% offers immunity to temperature completely. 20 - 23%, effects are all of the previously mentioned and the ability to alter the shape or configuration of the afflicted area. An example would be if your hands were the afflicted areas, they could reconfigure into blades (not generating long as it's just moving the matter around, not creating it) or hammers, etc. Anything above 23% is fatal, gradually, proportionate to the percentage above.

Notes: -No humans will begin with meteorite attached to them besides the two professors. No exceptions. You may find pieces, but keep in mind the percentage and be sure to note, out of character, what percentage your character has, once/if they achieve this feat.

-Humans combined with the meteorite need to consume more nutrients than normal, proportionate to the percentage of the stone. Keep in mind, the attributes will be boosted, and so require more energy. This means faster digestion, and a higher metabolic rate. People with the stone as part of their body will eat more than normally, simply put.

If you have any questions about the rules, feel free to ask.

({ I would say theres no age requirement, really. So long as they character can fit decently, then age doesn't really matter. })

((Heh, thanks. <3 Here's the application.

    Quote:
    Character Name: Tom 'Auth' Evans
    Gender: Male
    Age: 15
    Role: Student
    Vitals: 5'6", 110lbs.
Appearance: Short, brown hair, blue eyes.
Background: He's always wanted to be an author, therefore everyone has taken to calling him 'Auth'. He's quite curious, and intelligent. He's a quiet boy, due to teasing he had encountered. His parents have always wanted him to be a doctor, like his father, and grandfather, and so on. But, Auth hasn't desired to take that path.
In his high school years, Auth hadn't found a group of steady friends, therefore he had all the more time to concentrate on his studies. Shocked, his teachers placed him in advanced classes, and he's moved up to college classes in some subjects. (If you dislike this, I can remove the college classes, I wanted to include some connection, because he is fifteen, so...)
Extra: Auth loves to write, and he's generally socially awkward. He's quite clumsy, and always wears a long, brown and green striped scarf.
    Roleplaying Sample:
A young boy, perhaps fifteen years of age, walked down the crowded sidewalk. His brown hair, and blue eyes sparkled. He wore a long, green and black striped scarf, so long that the ends dragged on the ground, causing him to stumble every now and then. His faded jeans had many holes in them, and he wore a brown shirt with them. The fifteen year old stumbled, and fell on the pavement, pencils and paper flying everywhere from within his hands. He sighed, getting up, and inspecting his injuries. Although he wasn't hurt, all of his papers had fallen to the ground, and they were scattered everywhere. He sighed again, beginning the long task of picking them up.

I know that my intro is short... But, Auth isn't roleplayed frequently enough, thus the failing intro....))
