Is it me or is God a big part of country?

So are there alot of Christians here? It seems that with many gospel songs or songs like "Jesus take the wheel" or "Three Wooden Crosses" that Christianityn or God in general plays a big role in country music. Are You Christian? Why does country music and not other sorts of music make alot of these references?

In case you wanna know, I am indeed a Christian. I think alot of the God references come from the type of lifestyles alot of country singers lived. Also gospel and country music can be quite similar

Many songs are about God or have a Christian theme. I agree.

I am a Christian as well.

This is a good example. Josh Turner, "Long Black Train."

Quote:
'Cause there's victory in the Lord, I say.
Victory in the Lord.
Cling to the Father and his Holy name,
And don't go ridin' on that long black train

Yeah, I'm also Christian. I can't say I'm devout but I always believe, you know? For me, a song that really touched my heart was "drugs of Jesus" from Tim McGraw, not because I've ever been into drugs, but because I've had (and still have) battles with other similar things and for me, this song gives much hope.

And yeah, who doesn't love "Jesus Take the Wheel".

That being said, I don't think it matters if a person who likes country music is or isn't a Christian, but I do think songs do reflect artists values. That being said, I think country music is one of the few music genres left that has any morality at all (though some of the crap they play on CMT now makes me wonder... "My Redneck Wedding", anyone?

I found that there are alot of songs in Country that are Christian based and each one has a special meaning behind them. smile The one that I've liked the most is 'I can only imagine' by Emerson Drive. You can only imagine as a Christian, what it will be like to meet Jesus when your called home. biggrin

i think its because country songs generally tell stories and are trying to teach lessons and help people to be a better them... thats just my guess, i was raised on it and looking back i think i may have been a slightly different person if i hadn't learned those lessons

I've actually started a thread on this (Tallisnut would know; it's the "Proof country is the best genre" one). Okay, in a nutshell, here it is:

Country reflects life. Christianity is the largest religion in the world (followed next by Muslim). Country is just reflecting the largest part of religion that they can. Any questions, please read the "Proof..." thread in the "Music" sub-forum.

There's sissy's song by Alan Jackson, that has alot to do with christ. He basicly saying that we ain't dead, we've gone to heaven.

That's true.

Similar to that is Steve Wariner "Holes In the Floor Of Heaven."

He is saying that his grandmother is an angel watching over everyone from up above.

I'll leave it where it is then. It's no problem for me to move things. I do that on a regular basis anyway. It's part of running the guild. 3nodding
