Thanks to the newsletters, he's been stereotyped, or typecast, or however you want to say, as being prejudiced and culturally ignorant.

This kind of damage can't be undone. I already voted for Ron Paul last Tuesday, and I'm not withdrawing my support in any way (as if I mattered). But I didn't support him because I thought he could win, I supported him because I thought he would be a great influence. And he was, I never would have imagined a whole crowd of people on CNN shouting "end the Fed!" and now instead of running third party and losing all the time, I think maybe libertarians and like-minded people can run in mainstream politics and make an impact, he's even inspired me to look into the RLC and try to make a niche in his faction of the GOP.

Unfortunately, the first major figure-head for libertarianism in mainstream politics and media has been permanently smeared as being racist and homophobic, which is unfortunate really. It might sound mean but I don't really care about Ron Paul per se (although he seems like a nice guy), rather I like his policies and I want them to be heard, this was a bad first impression though. You can tell from the way people talk or joke about him now that they immediately run on the assumption that he's racist and anti-gay, no question, no debate, as if it were as apparent as Bush being pro-war. I call that the tipping point.

I'm incredibly pissed off at this campaign and really cannot begin to describe my current loathing of Jesse Benton. Besides the complete inability to adequately address the issue of the newsletters in a manner that is palatable to more general audiences, they have completely mishandled 'selling' Paul to his target audience. I am not talking about a sacrifice in principle; I am referring to the inability to take advantage of and market the positions of Paul's which intersect with mainstream Republicans.

Think about it for a minute: the Republican candidates have basically boiled down their campaign into how much they are like Reagan, and Paul was already endorsed by Reagan during his Congressional campaign. Why the <********> is this not being pummeled into radio and TV ads? Things like this are why I haven't donated recently.

I honestly doubt this changed many people's view of Ron Paul. Especially his strong supporters. I believe that the people who actually do believe this are really stupid because his character and his actions show way different. There isn't even real proof that he himself wrote it or even saw it.

It kind of more sad that people will believe that because the media said it,instead of finding it out them selfs ...

Yeah, the way Ron Paul's been bashed and steryotyped has been horrible. If anything, they shoudl be pointing their fingers at people like Mccain and huckabee who have openly expressed banning gay marrige and the like.

But oh no...Heaven forbid we talk about THEIR records or THEIR flaws...esspecially the "war hero".

But You know know what its all gonna be ok, just like ive heard a few people say...Once this country sees what a bad choice their making in a president after these next four years (yet again) their will be reawakening on the ideals of liberty and what a true president should be standing for.

I'm rather pessimistic when it comes to people realising what's going on. If a Democat gets elected, then the Republicans will blame him for everything; if a Republican gets elected, the Republicans will blame the Democrats in the Senate. I don't know what the Democrats' reactions would be, but I'd guess they'll be similar.

My guess is that any awakening that happens is going to be fairly slow. My parents can speak for the fact that there is a sort of political awakening going on with some sorts of Christians - Calvinists with High-Church leanings mostly. Over the past ten or twenty years more and more of these have become Crunchy Cons (which is something like moral conservative with leftist and libertarian leanings) and plenty of them are becoming semi-libertarian in the would-you-please-just-go-away-and-leave-me-alone sense.

I suppose it will atually be ok, eventually, I just doubt that it's going to happen in the next four years. But what you say is quite true; a new President will probably trigger an increase in the amount of people who wake up.

I'm just hoping that someday during this campaign, all of these candidates will get exposed for what they're involved in.
