Just like his many faces, Fay's name has more than one spelling. Here's how this happened... Wikipedia Fay D. Flourite (ファイ・D・フローライト|Fay D. Furōraito) is a character in the manga Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle by acclaimed manga artist group Clamp. The romanization of his name has also been expressed as '''Fai D. Fluorite''', '''Fye D. Flowright''', or any combination of the three, but in the character guide published by Clamp, the name is officially represented as '''FAY D. FLOURITE''', although this represents an error in spelling on Clamp's part because it is stated in the manga that he is named after the stone fluorite. His name is pronounced by rhyming Fay with 'eye'. The Del Rey editions of the series began release in English before the proper romanization was published. He is one of the two original main characters in ''Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle'', not having coming from any previous Clamp work, the other being [[Kurogane]]. I personally like to use the original spelling of "Fay",
though I really hate it when this happens. It makes it harder to search things, as Fay's not the only character with more than one spelling of name.

Raito/Light/Lighto/Kira from Death Note
...and I bet there are some more. xP
*Note from guild rule page: This isn't really a "rule", but when creating threads that has Fay/Fai/Fye's name is included in the title,
please use CLAMP's original spelling of his name which is Fay. This just makes everything look neater. Thanks.

Same here; "Fay" looks foreign like it's suppossed to be, as opposed to "Fai."
...one really quick question, am I the only one up-to-date with the manga in Japan? Like, up to the most recent chapters (ch. 181 being one of the most current)? 'Cause I don't want to run around with spoilers spurting out of every orifice on my body... sweatdrop

I know and completely understand that the right spelling is like 'Fay' but for some reason, I just like it like Fai better. D: I think it looks prettier. I pronounce it correctly and everything though, but.. I just don't know. Just the fact that at the beginning of the manga when I bought the first volume, I didn't know anything about it, and seeing it spelt like 'Fai', it just sort of grew on me. After learning it was incorrect, I saw the real way, and it just looked strange to me. D:
I'll spell it like Fay in this guild, though. Sorry about my username if it bothers you ; 3;

Oh, no, no! I didn't say anything about must using "Fay", I just ment when creating thread titiles and guild banners, that's all. So feel free to use "Fai" if you'd like. =)

I prefer spelling is "Fai." Mostly because my name is Kayla and I'm prone to pronounce the spelling of "Fay" like the "Kay" in my name. I just can't help doing it. And I read is as Fai first, so that's how I've always spelled it before I found out the correct spelling.

...well, technically, it's not "Fay," "Fai," or "Fye" at all; it's Yuui...but I still call him Fay, because that's what he's called himself since the original Fay died. That, and it's confusing when you're talking about ze twins. Someone will mention Fay, and I'll be like, "...wait, which one? The dead one or the cyclops/vampire/wizard/pirate?" Then they look at me funny and edge away... sweatdrop

Ahh.... I can't seem to get used to the spelling "Fay". Everytime I see it I pronounce it differently in my head. ^^; I might struggle a bit when using Fay so bear with me.
@WhitePhoenix: I'm up-to-date as well. (spoilers in white)
I still call him Fai/Fay instead of Yuui as well. It's just so hard to switch to something else when its something you've been doing for awhile. I don't think I'll ever call him Yuui. When anyone talks about Fai/Fay I automatically assume that they're talking about the one that's alive. Mokona still calls him that, not?

I'm up-to-date also. spoilers: I was so pissed about the name change at first. I like Fai better than Yuui. And then I got used to calling him Yuui. Yuui sounded good. Then, what does Mokona do? She calls him Fai! So I just threw the whole thing in a basket. I think that Kurogane will call him Yuui, if he ever does call him by his name. This brings up somethings else: Yuui or Yuuy? haha.

Well yeah, when people say Fay, I think the (Yuui)Fay we've known for the past 150+ chapters. I know that the Fay we've known is Yuui, but when we're talking about the twins, I always get him and his brother mixed up. Fay...Yuui....AGH. Brain shut-down. Gotta go reboot it... gonk
Yeah, the name-switcheroo was a very CLAMP thing to do; I was mildly irritated, but I guess pulling stuff like that is to be expected of those crazy, amazing ladies. I agree, Kurogane'd probably call FayYuui by his given name once he actually gets around to it. And personally, I prefer the "Yuui" spelling; "Yuuy" is just too phonetic and wierd-looking for me... xd
...great. Now I'm gonna get Yuui and Yue (from Card Captor Sakura) mixed up... gonk

HOMGWTFBBQ YES. What're those ladies thinking?! ...wait, they probably felt that it would be too bothersome to go, "Wait no, Fay-sensei's real name is Yuui, and oh btw this is his twin, the REAL Fay." No, it's much easier to switch their names around, 'cuz unlike Tsubasa, both twins are alive, and it would just be way too confusing for them to talk about the name-switch right in the middle of the latest Horitsuba Gakuen Drama CD (where real!Fay makes his first appearance). I'd imagine that if they did so, it would go kinda like this:
real!Fay: YUUI!!! (hugs)
Everyone besides the twins and Yuuko: wtf? Owo
yuui!Fay: Wait, I didn't tell you all? Oops... XD
Everyone: Ehhh?
Yuuko: Sorry, Fay-sensei's name is actually "Yuui."
Everyone: Ehhhhhhhh???
Yuuko: And this is his younger twin brother, the real Fay. biggrin
Everyone: EHHHHHHHHHHHHHH?!?!?!
