So, what do you think?
It's those damned videogames I tell ya!
It's the bullie's faults for pushing too far.
It's the school's fault for not doing whatever necessary to prevent it.
It's the shooter's fault for being messed in the head.
It's because of the American gun law.
I blame Britney Spears, I don't know why, but I do.
Everyone's partial in one way or the other.
Work of the devil! Begone demon! The power of christ compells you!
Ahhh, I remember my first school shooting...

So, I stumbled upon the Dr. Phil show on tv a while ago when they were discussion about school shooters of America and talked to some victims.

The ordinary "I saw my friends drop dead on the floor next to me." kinda stuff.

I suppose there are alot of factors that could make this happen. I suppose we could all agree on one thing anyways, school shootings doesn't just happen without a reason. Either the shooter is in furious rage because of something, maybe has a poor sense of reality or simply doesn't quite understand what he's up to. I'll refer to the shooter as he, based on a statement by Dr. Phil that when girls are depressed they're more likely to cut themselves instead of going into murderous rage.

They also discussed if it's possible to see in early stages if the child will become a potential killer, judging on behaviour and characteristics.
I'd say that it would be hard to say as there are so many different kinds of killers, natural killers, impulsive, the ones that take alot of crap until they just explode, thrill seekers. Let's face it, there are many reasons to kill, but whether it's right or wrong is a different story. I suppose most people are familiar with the strong urge to just kill someone, but there are reasons not to also, known as consequences.

So what are your thoughts about school shooters?

I just see something like that as stupid and wrong. You cant just go shoot someone because you feel like going nuts. This is one of the problems i see with America. The 'School shootings' happen there because kids are so stupid and screwed up they become idiots and do whatever they want to. Gun laws there are absurd as well, obviously contributing to these shootings.
If the person has some sort of mental illness then that can be said and possibly not held against them as much, but not to people that don't.

3nodding wrong things makes more wrong, I don't understand America too well and I'm certainly happy I don't have to live there with their health insurance policies and gun laws.

According to the wikipedia, (most) school shooters finish themselves off when they're done. So, perhaps it's just a twisted way to call for attention... or craving the power over others for a while... maybe an attempt to get famous so they don't feel they were nobodies. I'm mainly for killing people who behave badly towards others, but I can't really agree with killing the innocent. The reason I'm for killing bad behaving guys is that I really disapprove of them showing up and try to appear all funny at the expense of others mental well being which in turn could affect the outcome of a person's future, like getting worse grades, so in my sense of logic "Kill to avoid failure." ofcourse, if you're caught in the act or get sloppy with evidence that points towards you, the whole killing has been in vain, professional assassination, gather information, observe, plan, strike. I'll just say I'm not the kinda person who relies on other people's "second chances". You don't want to get in the way of my success, especially not unjustified.

Hmm, i guess i should say something since i'm American...
I believe there are many reasons school shooting happen, in fact, i think it's the compilation of these things that really causes it. Living in a society where we are free to dwell on morbid subjects like the ones being portrayed in video games and on tv without any moral base to judge things as simply "wrong," I believe has a lot to do with it. What is wrong? Who's to say? These are the questions that are forced to go unanswered because our society seems to have only one thing in common: that we have nothing in common. We don't want to have anything in common either, everyone "should" do exactly what they want, when they want, how they want it, and no one should stop them. So how could we have common ideals?

So...Why does everyone want to be so divisive? Why can't we agree on some common goals/ideals/values/morals? Again, there are many reasons. One of these reasons, i believe lies with parents. It is impossible to put a marker or tab on when exactly parents started caring more about themselves than their children, but it seems to be a growing trend today. Not everyone's parents are like the ones I'm about to describe, but there are many like them, and they are simply training their own offspring to be like themselves.

These parents hardly see their children; they leave for work early and come home late. They feel like they are providing the best life for their children because of the material things they provide for them. But, they don't provide the attention and guidance children need to grow and adjust properly to the world. They don't provide any sort of moral base for their children to make decisions based on. Their children are left to fend for themselves, morally speaking. This ethical gap is worsened by outside forces, such as the media whose soul purpose it is to entertain (and sometimes to "inform" in the case of the news), NOT to teach or train a morally sound youth. No parental support + no morals + negative influences = an insecure, confused child.

yeah, to be honest it really scares me. all the places that the school shootings have happened so far seem really inconspicuous, not in big cities really, so it seems like it can happen any time and anywhere. i wish something could be done, but i don't think i'll see any change here until people decide to be good parents and choose to live ethically.

Hokaru: OK, first things first: I don't believe that these shootings come out of stupidity. I believe it's more or less a way of revenge. Revenge against what, I have no idea, I'm no killer. I've seen stuff on the news and such about these shootings, and they all seem like they just hate the world and everything about it, and they're going down and taking many with them.

As for the whole thing about America, it's not just here(I'm an American, and proud of it,thank you). It's happening all around the world. I know of one that happened in Finland.

Revenge is bitter-sweet whee though it would probably be neat, killing someone you really hate, frightening all the people that have any possible reason of being hated by you and such. Quite quick and easy way to feel "safe" from those direct comments that are spoken in such a way that you are intended to hear them, or being physically safe, who would pick on you afterwards, knowing you have the power to end someone's life if pushing you too far? Only someone who would really want to die, and therefor they deserve it?

The catch, even those without intention of hurting you mentally or physically will be afraid, thus you'll be isolated in your own world and everyone around you avoids you.

The solution, find other ways of revenge. Tell the authorities, record their actions as proof, alter their lives the way they tried to alter yours, get them... EXPELLED twisted force them into a life without grades and condemn them to travel from job interview to job interview, let them fall in status and go through misery and misfortune. That is a much better revenge than relieving someone from living. 10 years later, laugh at the fools in the gutter who dared standing in your way, if they haven't already commited suicide, passive killing! whee
Ofcourse, this whole story could be avoided if they stop... which is fair enough, still be on alert though, catch them making a wrong move and they're cleared out of the way.

Wikipedia has got a neat list of shootings, you can even click some names and find out more about the shooters. 3nodding

School shootings? How did I miss this topic?

I was IN a school shooting!! sweatdrop 1995, Wickliffe Middle School.

One person died, a custodian by the name of Peter Christopher. The shop teacher was also shot point blank with a shot gun, but survived.

I was sort of detached from the whole ordeal.

Also, I blame the parents!!
Parents are responsible to teach their children how to cope with life, they leave it up to schools, schools leave it up to teachers, teachers leave it up to the students. The system doesn't work because the student CANNOT teach themselves what they do now know!!
