Tattoo Consecration Ritual
Although this ritual is intended primarily for the very common Celtic Teutonic interlace tattoos that people have put about their upper arms, it can be applied too to most tattoos on the arm and body that are intended as protective talismans.
At the dark of the Moon, go to a place of solitude. Take with you an image of your patron deity (with female aspect that appeals to you), a candle, a iron knife (or athame), and a small bottle of rum or similar god-power elixir ( I use mead when I've got a bottle of the stuff open...otherwise rum or whiskey). Dress as befits a warrior.
Set the images of your male and female patrons in a place of honor, and set the rum and the knife before them. Sit before the images, gaze on them, light the candle, and meditate for thirty-nine heartbeats upon your connection to your protective patrons.
Then open the bottle of rum and liberally wet your finger with it. On your tattoo draw the "Tyr" rune (with arrow pointing upward), then on the opposite side of the tattoo draw a sun-wheel (a circle with an X drawn in it) Say:
O High Ones, hear my call!
Grant that this sacred and powerful
Marking upon and within my body
Be consecrated in your honor;
To be a shield, an armour,
And a protection
Against all harm
To the mind and to the body
May the High Ones grant me
The endurance that I may need
To be victorious
In any time of peril.
In the names of the Great Ones, so be it!
Pick up your blade and lay it across your tattoo in three places, saying in these or similar words:
May the armour of protection
Ever be stored
Strong and vital
Within this ancient
And sacred symbol. So be it!
If you have a tattoo on the other arm, or another place on the body, repeat this spell on that tattoo also. Then hold the bottle of rum up before the image of your patron, saying in these or similar words:
My friend and lady, my guardian,
My good and strong companion,
I drink this in your honor,
For strength, for courage,
And for the most powerful
Of protection, So be it!
Pour a little of the rum before the image of your patrons, drink some yourself, and relax for a while. You may wish to talk with your patrons about your life and about the protection you desire. When you feel that the time is proper, put out the candle, and depart.
It is well to repeat this ritual whenever you feel the need of it, and in times of stress or danger. Also, at the dark of the Moon each month it is a good idea to "feed" your tattoo by anointing it with rum.

Sorry to diverge a little orr topic but what are you getting done and what have you already had done? I have a pentacle on my left shoulder, I plan getting an Ankh on my left shoulder blade, The Reiki Symbol on my right Shoulder, a butterfly (one of my spirit guides) on my left ankle, a black serpent on my right ankle (another one of my animal guides), and a yin yang on my right shoulder blade.

Ooo sounds cool, I've currently got a half sleeve of dragon heads on my left arm, need to finish the shading on that and then have the other half sleeve done on my right arm smile

That is a very nice ritual, it's so rare that I see ones done specifically with tattoos in mind. I may use an altered version on the next new moon

Aye, it is that's why I added it to my Bos, useful for someone who's tattooed and needing protection in some form or another.
