As the barbeque is taking a long time to complete, I'm setting up this thread as a 'time bubble' for the players to finish their scene as the main RP moves on. When the scene is completed, I will compile all the posts and post it onto the main RP in full, and delete this thread.

Dael looked up as he heard the call about Ivan. Sure enough he breezed in with an ice bucket next to Marja. "Hey man." Dael called and gave a small wave. "Good to see you again." Seeing Ivan helping out made him feel guilty though. He should offer to help out too probably. Standing up and padding over on bare feet, Dael followed a bit uncertainly to see if there was anything he could do.

"You two know each other? That's cool." Marja set down the chips on the central table. "I'm Marja -- in case you forgot, that's Hannah, Cori, Jeroen," she continued, gesturing at each person named in turn. "Jeroen's playing chef, Cori's playing barkeep, and I'm Julie, your cruise director."
Coming out from behind the bar, Cori snorted. "Keep the American tv references to a dull roar, please. Here you are, Dael." She handed him a tall frosted glass, and held out another to Ivan. "Good to see you again, Ivan. It's your usual."
((OOC -- cool on the separate thread.))

"Oh, thanks." Dael responded as he took the glass. Taking a sip from it, he proceeded to look about the room as if absorbed in the decor. He wasn't very confident at starting conversations or getting to know people immediately. Unlike his older brother, he was shy and had trouble relating to other people. He wished Piet were there...at least he'd have someone to maybe act as a model. Perhaps Ivan could be his wing man?
Dael moved to sit back down while they waited for the food, his toes curling in and out slightly on the carpet.

Jeroen slid open the patio door, poking his head through. "It's done."
His announcement sent Marja into a flurry of action, running back and forth between the kitchen and the back parlor bringing out bowls of food, plates, silverware, napkins. Hannah shoved her hands in pockets, clearly torn; then held the door open for Jeroen.
"This is some spread," she said, watching Marja pounce on the platter of meats and begin divvying them up onto separate plates. "For just us?"
Cori shrugged. "Why not?" She poured soda over a glass of ice, and sat down between Dael and Ivan. Hannah's eyebrows shot up.
"Piet will be here later. And Maarten. Hope you've been keeping out of trouble, Ivan." She sipped her drink, smiling at him over the glass.

Dael blushed as Cori sat down between him and Ivan. Oh wow! Oh wow he...HE...was sitting elbow to elbow practically with THE most popular girl in school! And one of the richest! This was totally like, the best night ever. While she turned to speak with Ivan, Dael smiled slightly down at his plate as he busied himself with making up his hamburger the way he liked it. Turning to Marja and Jeoren as they busied themselves with setting up the food he gave a smile and a nod. "Wow, all of this looks great. You did an awesome job." Now if only he could get his heart to stop pounding so loudly.

"Oh yeah, of course... well... I try." Ivan smiled sheepishly, gripping his glass a little tighter. Everytime he spoke to Cori it always took a bit of will power to:
A) Not blush stupidly. B) Not say anything stupid. C) Not get an erection.
Well, not so much the last part... but sometimes he worried about it. Cori was beautiful, he'd love to have a girlfriend, hell - any girlfriend, half as gorgeous as she was.

"Thanks. And thank you both -- all of you -- for coming." Cori smiled at Ivan and Dael in turn. "I wanted to do something smaller, a little more intimate, than I have been lately."
In the midst of carving up a rack of country ribs, Jeroen snorted. Hannah developed a coughing fit and gulped down more of her own drink.Tochi "Oh yeah, of course... well... I try." "Oh, God, I hope so!" Marja leaned over the table toward him, pausing in mid-spooning of potato salad. Her blouse's scoop neckline gaped. "I saw that guy, that junkie friend of hers, passed out in the park near here the other day. He looked almost dead." She shuddered delicately and continued filling plates. "You don't look shocked," Hannah said to Ivan. "I thought Dorian was keeping him in line better than that."

Dael paused in passing the ketchup to Jeoren, at Cori and Hannah's words. Drugs...? Someone had passed out in the park from Dorian's gang? Was Ivan involved in stuff like that? He finished passing the ketchup with his left hand as Jeoren made an impatient gesture with his own hand.
Marja came by to scoop some potato salad it looked like, and Dael found himself in perfect eye line for...err...her lovely collar bone. Gee it felt a bit warm in here. Or maybe that was because he was next to one of his school idols. At least Ivan seemed to be fairing a better on the other side. Dael gave a nod of thanks and picked up his fork.

"Well..." he didn't wanna tell them the full story, and Dorian had warned Ivan about telling people her personal issues... especially to Van Rycke's crowd. "Dorian's been a little spacey lately. I think she's had a lot on her mind.""Dedrick's just an unpredictable spaz." He laughed slightly.

"Spaz is putting it lightly." Hannah gingerly poked at the potato salad before taking a bite, then another. "He'll wind up in the morgue if he keeps that s**t up," she continued a few moments later, shaking her head.
"Hey, hey!" Marja reached out and swatted Hannah on the arm. Hannah scootched out of Marja's range, blushing. "No more of this serious stuff! This is a party".
"His folks will send him to a rehab before it gets that bad," Jeroen said to no one in particular. "But, yeah...not the most cheerful discussion." He cocked an eyebrow at Ivan and Dael.
"So change the subjectr!"
"You do it." Jeroen grinned around his country rib and bit into it.
"Hmph. Fine. So." She clapsed her hands on her knees. "Cori's got this idea. And she's looking for help."

"The city's has a multicultural festival. Booths, costumes, dances, the works. I think Ohtori Amsterdam should have a presence there."
"Sounds like something the Student Council would do," Hannah said.
"That's just it!" Cori pounced on her statement. "The Student Council does this, the Student Council does that... why should they this time, when they don't even know about it? Why shouldn't the rest of us -- and there's more of us than there are Student Council members, after all -- get a bit of limelight on our own?
"Look. I'm sure the Student Council does a great job at ... well, whatever it is they do. Throwing people into detention and walking around looking spiffy. I'm not saying shut them out of things completely. Just let the rest of us have a chance. So... I need help getting the word out. Help finding out who's interested, who isn't, who can do what, who's willing to do what."

"I'd be willing to help." Ivan chimed in. It was different from what he was used to, but it gave him a chance to hang out with Cori and Co. He wasn't such a keener on the whole community festival lets have fun and work together idea. But when everything completed, it could be a lot of fun. "I'm pretty versatile" he added, "I'd be willing to do just about anything. I don't know if I'd be so great at promoting though." He doubted approaching people to convince them to attend an event would reel-in many guests. Especially around the school.

"I think I know the festival you're talking about..." Dael muttered, thinking. Then he glanced up and held up his hands apologetically. "Err, on account of my dad's work. I...could help out too I guess. Although I'm not too sure if I have much to contribute." Dael said, following Ivan's lead. He really wasn't very good socially though...did she want to pass out flyers and talk to people and stuff? He could pass things out, but he wasn't very confident about speaking to people. It wasn't one of his strong points It was a quirky idea though...usually stuff like this was left up to the Gossip Commitee and the Student Council. You'd find bulletines on the board and stuff, if you bothered to check it every now and then. But it sounded like Cori had a thing against the council...but maybe she was just rebellious against it, like half of the guys he knew were.
