Well, this should be adequate as rules. I'm sure most of you don't even need to be told, but here's the rules for you.

First, to set the "tone" of this discussion, a list of "How to be a Noob" (Thanks to Cideous and Cryingsouls, for writing this and providing the forum where I found this, respectively...) A few minor edits were made, Admin was changed to moderator in a couple cases, RM was changed to AVI
Quote:
Step1. Press every button you can find violently and as quickly as possible.

Step2.Post comments in topis that have absolutely nothing to do with the theme of the topic.

Step3. Try to link two totally unrelated topics.

Step4. Blabber on about how your mother bought you the new Hellsing boxset.

Step5. Abuse admin for their "lack" of effort and devotion to the site because they only have 15 gigabytes of downloads avaliable.

Step6. Make it your point in life to try and prove everyone wrong, and when you are wrong still say you are right.

Step7. Try to encode a file using windows media player.

Step8. Rave on about how leet you are because you managed to cut two pictures together to make a signature.

Step9. Complain about dead links for files that work perfectly.

Step10. Ask what .avi means.

Step11. Ask what .zip means.

Step 12. Tell everyone you got owned by your mother on starcraft.

Step13. and your baby sister.

Step14. Complain to moderator of anime site about not having any tutorials for how to be a n0oB.

Step15. Ask moderator for help with posting on the forum. Example * how to post a reply*

Step16. Try to become moderator after being on the site for one hour.

Step17. PM everyone just to say hi.

Step18. Complain about time taken to load page when using a 16.6k modem.

Step19. ask what right-click means.

Step20. Be as random as humanly possible.

Step21. Constantly annoy people by asking what is google?

Step22. Ask how to turn on your pc.

Step23. Proceed to abuse a moderator for deleting your post about boobs in an anime section (also call them a n0oB)

Step24. Steal anime off a site and take credit for work done

All right, now to the guide:
How NOT to make yourself look like a complete, utter, and total idiot, fool, jackass, etc, while enjoying your stay on Onigiri forums
1) Use the Newbie Board to say Hi! Make your own topic, don't use someone else's. Don't use a different board. Don't try to start topics in your introduction thread, please...

2) Advertising is acceptable If you know of places to find things, put them in here. We'd all be pleased. (Nothing that violates Gaia ToS, ok?)

3) Do not make topics that have been answered already. This includes: Things in stickies, premium download issues, questions regarding potential bugs, if the question has been raised, and complaints about threads being closed or the moderators.... In other sections, use the search, and if a similar topic has come up in the last month or so, please use that thread. If it's older than a month, or you don't see a similar topic, then feel free to make it. (If there is an older thread, please mention that in your first post, but say that it's old...

4) BE RESPECTFUL This means: Do not insult, flame, degrade, or otherwise harrass or abuse other members. Do not be rude, do be polite. (Threatening, is also disrespectful, obviously.) If someone is rude to you, do not respond in kind. If you feel someone misinterpreted you as being rude, try to clear that up.

5) Don't be stupid... Ok, that may be asking a lot. What I mean is... Think before you post... Can some (or all) of this info be found elsewhere? Is it possible the question's been asked before(How do I play avi's?) Is it worth making this topic? Is there a point to it, or do I just want to rant? Do I know what I'm talking about? Is that person really being rude to me, or am I misunderstanding him? Are the points I'm going to raise actually going to help in the arguement. Will my posting that I too am having this problem really make the mods or admins work faster on it (unless you're providing new or extra info)? Will this be misconstrued as impolite?
Tied to this is:
6) Do Not Spam
What Is Spam? Spam is pointless additions to topics, usually short, though they can be very long as well. They add nothing to the conversation, or add something, but that addition is overshadowed by the fact that it's the same addition as 15 other people (e,g: "Nice Job!"; "I have that same problem"; or "Itachi") Things that could be communicated in PM's is also spam...
What ISN'T Spam? Not all short posts are spam. A post can be very short and simple, yet add a lot to the conversation (e.g. "No, Itachi does not use the Byakugan"). Stupid topics are not spam. They may be dumb, sometimes, but they're still attempts to bring something to the forum experience. There can be, within the topic, spam, but stupid topics themselves are not spam. (e.g. "What is your favorite pocky flavor?") Vote posts (in GFX battles, for example) are not spam. Humorous posts are not spam, as long as there is some content to the post, (or they're posting in a thread about humor)
How can I keep from spamming? First, think before you post. If what you're about to say isn't going to add anything, don't say it. It can be very hard sometimes. Sometimes, you want to add your 2 cents. But remember, you'll be much more respected (and have a longer stay) if you wait until you can throw in a whole quarter. Another nice way to look at it is to remember Rule 14, of Chapter 5 of Strunk and White's "Omit Needless Words." Spam is basically an excess of needless words. If you omit them, you won't be spamming.

7) Keep things in the right forum. This should speak for itself.

cool Admit when you're wrong. Sometimes, you're going to be wrong. It happens to everyone. But it's a lot better to just admit it and move on, then to spend 15 or 20 posts arguing that you're right about Itachi using Byakugan.

9) Have Fun! Don't let all these rules keep you from enjoying yourself. After all, the reason to come here is for fun. The reason most of us have stayed is that we're enjoying ourselves. So, take off your coat and stay awhile.
