((okay first time RPing My Sentinel XD)) Maury was stood halfway up a scraggly old pine on watch, he had been for about two hours. In this time he had seen several leaves fall, an angry-looking scout sweep past and two mus chase each other around in fallen leaves for ten minutes, and that was the most interesting thing to happen so far. He shuffled and quitley shifted from one foot to the other and started peering out of one eye, but gave up after it made him a little dizzy. He was currently on post in the most boring patch there could be, in a central zone near the river. This gave Maury time to wonder and imagine, meaning it was going to be an easy day for him. Managing to stay quite alert looking (meaning he hadnt closed his eyes) he started to wonder about whether it would be useful to get a companion or not, he diddnt want a Mus as they moved to quickly and were so full of energy, they really just would'nt suit him, and niehter did a Parus, they also seemed so full of buzz and spirit. It wasnt that Maury didd'nt have energy and spirit, its just that he believed that a companion should reflect its sentinel and Maury could never decide, so never got one. He started to click his talons on the bark as he snapped off from his thoughts of wieghing up the pro's and con's of different companions to take a quick thourough scan of the forest surroundings, he moved to the opposite side of the tree with a heafty flutter to continue his watch. 'no' he thought to himself 'My companion would definetly not be a Waral either'...those things were completely vile

A Chirop's broken speech broke the silence of the forest, getting louder as the tiny chattering creature came closer to Maury. The Chirop swooped into Maury's view, his body grey and wings and the crown of his head painted green, his bright black eyes glittering as he paused to give the Watcher a look over. He was abruptly off again, back in the direction he'd come.
The Chirop was back soon enough in the company of a young female Sentinel with similar markings, no longer so vocal. Beltany floated up leisurely to join Maury in the tree on a lower branch, catching it with her talons with an easy grace and settling herself, facing the opposite direction as Maury was perched.
"Hello there," she greeted Maury brightly, stretching out a wing to preen. She'd been flying for quite some time, on her way to get the materials she needed to fill up her stores of Medic supplies. "Anything going on in this part of the forest?" Bel asked, watching him with interest. She adored any bit of gossip she could get.
The Chirop joined Maury on his branch, blinking at him and uttering a little squeak.
((We can learn together. XD ))

Maury heard a Chirop before he saw it, he turned to see a flittering mossy critter swoop once around and back again quite noisily too. A little intrigued, although honestly it wouldnt take much to grap his attention this afternoon. He shuffled and leaned forward to see if the Chirop was still near, although he couldnt see it. Soon he saw it again although this time with its sentinel, they both had the moss green markings.
"Hello there," "Anything going on in this part of the forest?
Maury smiled at the question
"Afternoon" Maury said returning the greeting, He laughed about the prospect of any news though. "Do you want me to tell you the blinding truth, because to be honest really in this part of the wood, nothing really happens too often" He spread out a wing and motoned to the trees ahead of him "I could sit here and count leaves that fall and come away this evening knowing it will probably be the most eventful thing which happens" With a turn of his head though he pondered this "Although presuming nothing will happen just because nothing ever does would be dangerous, Thats always when the worst things happen......sod's law eh?" He turned to the Female with a grin

Bel adjusted the trailing edge of her wing and blinked, parting her beak in a smile, though she was a little disappointed. "Yes, such is often the case. I suppose it's a good thing that we live in a quiet place," she shrugged, stretching her stiff wings.
"I'm actually on my way to collect some things, been flying for hours now without break or event. My part of the forest just doesn't have everything a Medic needs, and I know they needed someone posted out in the boonies and that I'm young so I was the logical choice, but I wish they'd put me a little closer to someone else and..." she went off babbling, shifting her stance and half-glaring into the middle distance between herself and Maury as she let spill her woes. Trailing off after a bit, she blinked at Maury sheepishly.
"Uh... sorry about that. I really do love my task," she fluffed out her feathers and resettled on the branch.

Maury listened interested, This female was a Medic then? they always do push themselves so hard, Maury wished he had the talent for a job which really suited him. Sitting around on trees staring into the forest for hours could only keep him interested for so long.
"Hours, hmm gosh and I thought just staring into the horizon could bore folk, Tired and bored....now thats no good" Maury thought about the passionate little rant about bieng a young medic
"No worries about that, everyone needs a good vent now and then" Maury laughed, he sometimes got similar feelings "Bieng a Watcher you end up doing bits of everything here and there, getting to meet all different Sentinels and see all the different bits of the forest is great, it really is. But all the shifting from pillar to post just makes you want just one single focus. Thats always there for me, my goal." He grinned

Beltany stretched each of her legs in succession, squinting up at Maury as her muscles relaxed. "You ought to pick a proper task, then! If you like flying around you should be a Scout. Or a Ranger," Bel suggested cheerfully. "I'd really like to meet a lot of Sentinels and have a look around the forest sometime. It sounds nice for an tween-season task," she sighed appreciatively.
"Oh! I forgot to introduce myself, might as well. I'm Beltany, and my Chirop is Flick. I go by Bel, usually," the Medic bobbed her head.
"Nice-a meet," Flick squeaked, lifting his head from under his wing.
"Y'know, if you're really bored and you need a break, you could come collecting with me."

"Mabye, perhaps I should change what I do, usually though I just like to see what hand fate deals me. A foolish thing to do I know, but I have my superstitions"
Maury laughed to hear himself say this, he made himself sound so utterly useless and out of control with his life.
"Oh, and I'm Maury, very lovely to meet you Beltany" Said Maury making a slight bow, "Collecting hmm?" He pondered, he could take a break for a while, it would'nt hurt. He snapped back, deciding with vigour.
"Sure why not, It'd make a nice change and who knows I might even learn somthing new"
he replied with a wry smile.

"Fair enough, Maury. Nice to meet you too," Bel answered easily, grinning when he bowed. She brightened, ear tufts lifting, when he said he'd come with her.
"That's the spirit! I've got to get some willowbark, dock leaves, and something for coughs and fevers," she listed off. "I would just ask a Gatherer to be on the lookout for such things but I'd rather get the proper stuff myself. I can tell you what to look for. It'll be an adventure! Truthfully I don't much like the idea of being so near to the ground but Flick can't carry too much on his own," Bel babbled again, adjusting a leather case she had tucked under one wing.
"Off to the river, then," she took off cheerfully, circling the pine once to get her bearings and then banking in the direction of the river. Flick leapt from his branch, nimbly following his master.

"To the River it is then" He spoke to himself as Bel circled and was away, little Flick in tow. Maury took a quick glance around the area and with a smile plummeted down, opening his wings quickly and swooped upwards and away, beating at the air. He looked downwards for a brief moment to the bracken and earth below and a worried look washed across his face briefly. He was'nt going to admit to it, but he was really quite nervous about the forest floor. The shadows would all looked so threatening from below. The sound of the river running steadily grew louder and like a trail of glitter it appeared up ahead.

Bel landed on a low branch on a tree a few yards from the river and looked apprehensively at the ground. "Flick, Low Mallow. Find Low Mallow," the Medic instructed the hovering Chirop. He blinked at her. "You understand? Low Mallow, Flick," she repeated in an authoritative tone, and the Chirop flicked off with a squeak towards the forest floor.
Bel turned her head this way and that, uncomfortable on such a low perch, and when she spotted Maury she relaxed marginally. "I do hate being so close to the ground," she said with a shudder. "Flick will bring us back a sample of what we need to collect and then we'll go down and follow him."
Flick returned a few minutes later with a few short stalks clasped by his toes, bearing a profusion of leaves. "Good, Flick," Bel praised him, glancing smugly at Maury and lifting the light load with her Will to show him the leaves. "This is what we're after. Nice and green. Are you ready?" she asked, keeping her nervousness out of her voice.

Maury landed nearby on a raggedy snapped branch. He did his best not to worry about going on the forest floor. The gatherers did it all the time and they were usually okay. He pondered over the 'usually' for a little while. He watched slightly impressed by the Chirop as it whisked down and away into the shadows, he wouldnt have expected companions to be so bright. They were getting good at breeding those things now, they were getting a lot smarter.
When the critter actually managed to find the herbs, Maury was quite stunned. He tried to shake the amazed look as Bel turned and grinned, 'I think even she knows thats an impressive Chirop'
Maury admired her will as well, He had terrible control and no strength at all. After she asked if Maury was ready he took a moment and then nodded,he had to stay alert, the forest floor was very dangerous even for adult sentinels.

Bel didn't miss that Maury was impressed with her Chirop. It was difficult, after all, to train a creature so young and relatively unendowed. She hoped that Flick would get even smarter as he aged, but she wasn't holding her breath.
Once she'd put away the sample Bel leaped from the branch, hovering awkwardly for a few moments before steeling her nerve and dropping slowly towards the forest floor in Flick's wake. She kept an eye out for any of those beasties that liked the taste of Sentinel. "Woo!" she hooted, frightening some Mus out of their hiding places. "They tell you all sorts of nasty stories as a fledgling, don't they? Gotta be careful," she muttered mostly to herself, trying to keep calm.
"Ah, Maury, this is great!" Bel hissed as Flick led them to a broad, low-growing swath of Low Mallow. She landed cautiously, looking around the clearing carefully before she started pulling up stalks by the roots with her talons, keeping the leaves intact. "This kind of reminds me a story an oldster told me once, about the Great Clan Wars and the Spectres..." she shuddered. "Ambushed our guys in a clearing and killed the Medics along with the soldiers."

Dropping down to the riverbank quite carefully Maury watched as Bel pulled up the herbs, he then followed her example of taking up the whole plant roots and all, though he used his beak instead to get a really good grip. He had to admit he was enjoying this, it was a nice change of scene. Maury paused mid-pulling up the ....Mallow did she call it? The idea of an ambush diddnt settle Maurys nerves. He found it a little difficult to stay calm and worked quickly so he could keep looking behind him.
"There are some terrible stories from the War, It makes me so glad for the peace we currently have" "I just pray that another war doesnt happen" He muttered shaking his head at the thought. The Clan Wars always unsettled Maury, it reminded him that they were never safe. That even on such a nice day when it seemed so peaceful that somthing awful could happen, it could only take one day to make a difference just one small slip up. Then then remembered his post which he was currently taking and extended break from. He should really be heading back to Watching duty soon. A small shuffle came from a fern behind him, he jumped dropping some of his Mallow and hooted out loud, his heart raced to his throat. A small mouse shot out of the bracken it a flurry of whiskers and away.

"I can't stand the thought of it," Bel agreed, shuddering again, feathers ruffled in agitation. When Maury leapt up she followed in a flash with an alarmed volley of hoots. Flick, completely unconcerned, uttered a few conciliatory squeaks.
"Nothing here. You safe," he assured them. "Flick check, see all."
Bel was still not happy about the thought of returning to the ground. She swooped just low enough for the mallow to be within reach of her wings and carefully lifted it, catching it in her beak to tuck it away piece by piece. Returning to Maury's side, she sighed heavily.
"You scared me back there," Bel glared at him playfully. "Well at least we got enough. Thank you so much, Maury," she nodded her head at him gratefully.
Swooping up to a branch to collect her wits, she sat and considered the riverside they were upon. "Are you bound to go back soon?" Bel asked, resettling her feathers. "Enough adventure for you?"

((sorry about the time ive taken to reply, Ive been finding a house to rent and I just got it today so ive been a bit scatterbrained smile ))
Maury took off upwards gratefully heaving himself up into the air and perched near to Bel. He ruffled, happy to be up off the ground, he felt a lot better now, a lot more comfortable.
'uum' Maury hummed in agreement 'I really ought to be getting back to my post, I hate to think if somthing would happen while I was gone.' He said twisting at a ratty piece of mallow he was playing with in his talons
He doubted that anything did happen, but the guilt rode up on him creeping into his thoughts, he was so paranoid sometimes.
'are you heading onwards or are you on your way back?' Maury motioned back towards the deepwoods where his post was. 'If so ill head back with you and go to my post'
