Sparry had acquired for herself a sword, a length of rope, and an oak tree overlooking one of the major footpaths that the lost children frequented. She was feeling clever and rather good about the whole situation. She thought the trap would work, even though several of the knots were improvised since she hadn't actually learned them yet.
Oh well, she'd see how it worked out when someone actually stepped into her trap. She hoped it actually pulled them up by the ankle like it was supposed to, though! People were easier to interrogate when they were upside down, or so her crew mates said. Sparry didn't know. She'd never interrogated anyone before.
She perched in the tree and stared up and down the path waiting for her first victim. This was going to be fun!

Another day, another romp through the wilderness. Trystan had yet again wandered off from the Treehut, feeling the need to stretch his legs and get some running in. So he had been doing just that, that was until his legs had started to ache and his lungs started to burn. He needed to run more often, that was the only solution.
Trystan now strolled down a foot path, his hand sin his pockets and his eyes to his surroundings as he watched the wildlife and vegetation. He would hum to himself if he stopped to stare at a bug or two, completely unaware of the trap he was heading toward and the trapper who was watching so intently.

Sparry spotted the lost boy coming towards her and gripped the tree branch in excitement. There was the scent of gold, however minute, on him. He might have a necklace or a few coins or a button that she could steal from him. He looked dopey and distracted and like she could take him in a fight if she had to.
But it wouldn't come to that, no sir! She would take his pocket change and leave him hanging for his friends to find! Maybe she'd scratch him up a bit, too, in the name of good fun. She wasn't sure yet.
She peered down from her leafy hiding place in anticipation. Her unsuspecting victim was only steps away from sticking his foot right into her trap.

The beetle he'd been staring at buzzed off, and a sigh he stood back up, batting dirt off of his shorts before continuing down the path. The bug hadn't been that interesting anyways.
He kept walking, shoving his hands into his pockets before taking a moment to listen to his instincts. Why did he feel like he was being watched? But before his muscles could catch up to the thought, he stepped right into the unknown trap.

A grin crept across Sparry's face as the boy's foot sank into the circle of rope and it snapped taught, whipping him up into the air by the ankle. Just like it was supposed to! She whooped with excitement and climbed down the knobby trunk of the old tree. She was already drawing her sword by the time she reached the ground, and leveled it with the boy's bobbing nose as she approached him.
"Hand over anything o' value on your person and I won't chop off your ears," she said authoritatively. She wouldn't really chop off his ears, maybe just give him a good nicking, but he didn't need to know that!

Trystan yelped, trying his best to forget that it had sounded a wee bit too girly for his tastes, as he flew through the air. What the heck was going on?! As he bobbed he saw a figure move toward him then saw the length of a sword poised at his nose. Going cross-eyed for a moment to look at it to make sure it was real, he then stared at its owner and her demands.
He gasped, hands clamping down tight upon his ears before he rambled, " I don't have anything on me of value!" He didn't right? He couldn't remember if he had or not. What was with his luck lately? First he didn't get to catch an awesome beetle, and now he was running into a pirate who had a sword at his nose and threatening to chop off his ears! Girls, sheesh.

"Really?" asked Sparry, surprised. Nothing of value? A lesser thief may have been fooled by the claim, but she was better than that. She could smell gold on him somewhere. Sword still poised, she sniffed around and found her eyes drawn to his pockets. His hands had been in them, but now they were askew and bunching oddly.
"What's in your pockets, huh?" she asked, poking at them with the tip of the sword.

His pockets? Trystan craned his head to gaze at his own pockets, instantly regretting it when his neck protested in pain. He let his head hang again looking at the upside down girl before him. How did she know he had something in his pocket? It was just a pretty stone he had found while swimming in a pond.
" Its just a stone," he repeated out loud. He didn't think it was anything to keep hanging him upside down about. As it was, his brain was starting to hurt, considering that his blood had rushed and settled in his head. " Can you let me down please? My brain hurts!"

Sparry, who had a suspicion he was lying since she could still smell gold, gruffly turned out the boy's pockets. A stone, some lint, and a small gold coin tumbled to the ground.
"I bet you forgot you had that," she said, picking the stone and the coin up. The stone was probably a gem of some sort from the way it glittered - she'd be sure to ask tock about it.
And then the boy got his wish, because there was a snap as the branch the rope was tied to broke under his weight and he was dumped unceremoniously onto the the path. Well, thought Sparry, it was bound to happen sooner or later - she wasn't that lucky.
She stared at her now-freed captive for a moment and then took off running down the path - she didn't want to be around when he rubbed the sense back into his head, after all!

Oh, he had forgotten about that. Trystan stared at the coin in the girls hand in surprise, when had he picked that thing up? But as the girl picked up his stone as well, a small hint of anger flared in him. Since when was it ok to take other people's things?
He was about to voice his objection when the sudden SNAP of the branch made him stop short, eyes going wide as he tumbled to the ground. Trystan quickly scrambled up, pausing a moment to rub at the back of his head, knowing a nice lump would eventually appear there later. He groaned then shook his head, only seeing the back of the girl as she ran off. " H-hey! Come back with my stuff!" He took off after her, ignoring the throbbing pain in his head.

"Finders keepers!" Sparry shouted back, hopping off the path and racing off through the woods. There was no way he could follow her through there, right? Besides, she was a pirate and he was a tree brat. Of course she was perfectly entitled to steal his things! She was entitled to the world!
"Loosers weepers!" She yelled as she came to a hault. Then she realized that gave away her position and took off running again.

" Finder's keepers my left foot!" He called back, pausing to catch his breath when he lost sight of the girl. What the saying actually meant he wasn't sure, but he had heard the older kids use it and figured he could too. Where had that girl gone anyways? Then he heard her yell again, grinning widely at his own luck as he took off in the direction of her voice. " I'm not crying!"

Sparry bit back a retort - and it was a witty one, too - and kept running. She'd lose him in the woods, she thought hopefully. After all, she was a pirate - fierce and wild and savvy! He was a tree brat - lost and boring and dumb!
But where to run to? She couldn't lead him towards the beach and the Rodger. That would just be a dead end. Maybe she could loose him at the stream?
She changed directions and tore off through the trees. She'd win this race yet!

The girl was fast, Trystan would have to give her that, and while he tried his best to catch up, is always seemed she got out of his sight. The young boy panted, ignoring the slight burn he was feeling in his lungs and legs. He wasn't about to give up, but it was getting increasingly harder to keep the girl in his sights. Man she was fast!
" Give me back my stuff!" he called out again, if anything he would let her know he wasn't giving up yet, but then she was out of his sights again. He groaned and quickly glanced around at the vegetation as he ran. He noticed a broken leaf off to the side and tore off that way, hoping he was going the right way, he wasn't going to be able to chase her for too much longer.

Sparry wasn't a genius, but she was smarter than that. She was no longer on the ground. Rather, she was safely out of sight in the canopy of an old oak tree. She watched the boy run past and then, when he was a good distance away, she dropped down the far side of the trunk and took off running in the other direction, towards the beach and the Rodger.
Haha, safe at last!
