As no-one else made a topic on it...

I liked it, Ianto's character developing even more, well sort of...more little jokes...but I like those.

Rhys (my bad sweatdrop ) was great in this episode aswell, always complimenting Jack aswell...

Rhys, not Reece.
Hate to be pedantic, but thinking things like that are important is a side-effect of me being Welsh.

Really liked this episode. Saying Treganna is my favourite Torchwood writer is a bit of an understatement, and though the 'shopping list' she's been given to work with here hasn't really given her room to dazzle, there's a lot to like about this script. Most of all...THIS WEEK THE TEAM AREN'T EVIL! Whooo!

It was actually a lot better. I agree that Ianto did get a fair bit of development, as I was left wondering whether there's a Welsh word that means something like "Badass".

The space-whale-kebab-thingie...eeeh. I watched DeClassified and thought that some of the preliminary stages actually looked more realistic than the finished article. I didn't really feel as sorry for it as I thought I was being expected to. Or something.

Mostly, it was nice to see Rhys becoming a bigger part of the show (though whether he'll stay that way remains to be seen). I liked his moments with Jack, but not as much as I liked Jack's scene with Rhys' secretary. Jack's starting to seem a bit less grim, due I think to the realisation that if he acts too Torchwood, he'll get what Harriet Jones got.

Be a fine to-do if it turned out that The Doctor was the cause of Jack becoming the Face of Boe.

There's a couple...'gwron', 'cneuen', 'powld' and my new favourite, 'Ianto'.

Oh god, I like that...if becoming the Face was Jack's punishment. That would be so very Tenth Doctor. And fit nicely alongside Novice Haim's redemption in Gridlock if both of them were in the same baot.

What a glorious thing it would be if phrases such as "The fight scene in that movie was so Ianto!" became common.

Not a bad episode. Actually, I'm liking season 2 much better than season 1 so far. Pretty good story overall. Only two things bugged me:

1. Meat whale CGI sucked. Badly.

2. I don't quite get this Jack-Gwen-Rhys love triangle they're trying to sell. I mean, they sort of touched on the idea that Jack and Gwen have some feelings for each other in 'Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang'... but then they keep throwing in all the Jack-Ianto stuff... I just don't get it. Unless Jack wants all of Torchwood as his own little harem or something.

No, she didn't. She also went back and told Jack and the others she refuses to drug him.

i think it was the best episode so far, and the love triangle is getting rather interesting cos Jack keeps saying to Gwen to keep her life together to go home to Ryse, yes then has these little intimate moments with her himself....
jack does seem to be almost stringing both Gwen and Ianto along, but doesnt something happen on Gwen's wedding day or something...so maybe that doesnt go to plan and Jack picks up the pieces....

though i did find hilarious when Rhse askes Jack 'Your not gay are you?' had to find that completely ironic of cors razz

I have not seen this episode yet, due to the fact that I live in Australia and t'internet's not working at my house for some unfathomable reason (I'm writing this on a very slow computer at the library, so you know), but if it's written by Treganna, most people on this thread liked it, and the characters get some decentish development, I can't see myself hating this one too much...

Maybe the Doctor's some sort of loan shark?

I hate Jack/Gwen. Partly because all the scenes that touch upon it are a bit rubbish, and partly because it's just so lazy. He's the leading man! She's the leading woman! Together they go!

Doesn't bother me that it conflicts with Jack/Ianto as between you and me, I get the impression that our Jack may not be a one organism kind of a guy. It just bothers me that Jack/Gwen is naff unto itself. The UST thing doesn't work unless the audience wants the characters to get together, and I don't think I've ever met anyone who's rooting for those particular crazy kids to hook up.

About the harem thing...I almost don't want to say this because I love the series' normalisation of bisexuality, but...well, in a group of five people in Cardiff it's a bit of a statistical anomally that three would be bi* and one would be omnisexual. You've got to start to wonder if sexual preference is one of Jack's recruitment criteria.

* - At least behaviourally, we don't know how they identify.

I loved that deftly written little exchange. Rhys is so operating in the mindset where 'gay or straight' are the two available options, which is so very far from the Torchwood universe.

There's a lot to like. There's nothing BIG enough to make me love it, and there's a couple of clunky scenes that let it down (both of the Jack/Gwen related, so that might just be my antipathy talking) but it goes a good way towards making the characters less repellant.

I rewatched the Master trilogy again last night (The second best one, not Keeper of Trakken, Logopolis and Castrovalva) and what the Doctor should have done is put a little holographic version of himself in Jack's wrist-thingy when he was fixing it. One that could have popped up whenever Jack was about to do something horrid and given him a stern look and a "Oh no you don't..." That's why everyone likes Jack in Doctor Who and feels a bit ill watching him in Torchwood. Because he gets the stern looks and a "Oh no you don't..."s in Doctor Who.

It'd be great!

Jack: Ianto! I order you to kill the woman you love. I know we'd all stand a better chance of survival if I ordered the whole team to try, but for no particular reason I really want to watch you do it...

Tiny Holographic Ten: *stares* Jack...

--------------------------------

Jack: Terrified woman! We're going to torture you, then I'm going to go and flirt with my ******** about how well I've done it!

Tiny Holographic Ten: *stares* Jack...

--------------------------------

Jack: Tosh! For no reason I'm going to murder the woman you love by sending her into the sun rather than letting her go home, which would get her out of our hair just as effectively. Then, I'm going to joke about it in front of you by horribly delivering an old Goon Show gag...

Tiny Holographic Ten: *stares* Jack...

Jack: Okay! No Goon Show gag!

Tiny Holographic Ten: *continues staring*

Jack: Alright! Alright! No pointless murder either! Jesus!

Still, I'm glad I'm feeling warmer towards the show right now since it's the DOUBLE BILL next week!

On BBC2 they're showing Adam, the Big Treganna Character Piece.
Then on BBC3 straight after they're showing Reset, the first Martha episode. heart

I want to base a D&D adventure on this episode. And, unlike my attempt with Tooth and Claw, this one will transpose perfectly.

it's the DOUBLE BILL next week!

I'd be really happy about that, only one problem... I'm not going to be there! I'm in Germany at the moment, at my Dad's. And he has RUBBISH internet, so if I get to watch Adam it'll be pushing it... sad

I love the idea of the little holographic Ten. xD

I enjoyed the episode. I liked how they handled Ianto (snarky, but not over-done). I really liked that Gwen didn't take Rhys completely for granted like usual. I spent most of the episode feeling sorry for Rhys, but then by the end I changed my mind a bit. I'm kinda annoyed they made Owen say "I'm so sorry", that seemed like it was some kind of Doctor Who reference but it was completely unnecessary! I don't know why it bothers me so much, but that line really ruined that little scene, in a way. I mean, it was obvious he was sorry! I think that may just be me.
I really don't like the Jack/Gwen either. Not cos it interferes with Jack/Ianto, but because it's so forced.

I'm a bit worried about next/this week (Adam). It could be really good or really bad, but we'll see!

Eek! How long arre you over there for? Will Reset (the first Martha ep) still be up on iPlayer when you get back?

Such a shame iPlayer can't be used outside the UK. sad

Actually...the BBC will have an interesting choice to make this week now that they're showing Ep5 on BBC2 followed by Ep6 on BBC3 - do they just put the BBC2 episode up on iPlayer or both of them?

I'm not sure it was meant as a reference, but I'm sure every one of us watching was thinking that. Comes to something when people can't appologise without setting off the intertextual alarm bells.

Very optimistic here, since it sounds a fun concept and it's got the only writer on the staff I trust at the keyboard.

Here's a fun thing - now the accursed Chibnall has been made showrunner for Law and Order: London, then he's very unlikely to still be the showrunner of Torchwood if it gets a third season. That probably means Helen Raynor will get the gig, but wouldn't it be fantastic if Treganna did?

Do they tend to put Beeb3 things on iPlayer? I've only ever watched things from terrestrial TV on it (oh, and listened to the radio) so I don't know...

I'll be back on Sunday though, so I'll be able to watch it then. I just don't want to wait that long, I guess I'm impatient. But especially as I've ep5 is one of the episodes i've been really waiting for since the beginning of the series... (this happened with Human Nature/Family of Blood too - I was really curious after Tennant being quoted that the Doctor got married, well he didn't not get married and something something it'd all make sense when you see it, and then I was in Germany and had to wait a while before I saw it... On the bright side, I watched some Ecclestone in German on Saturday. Teh lolz. xD I'm missing jack by a week, I'd like to see what they do with dubbing him...)

ooh, I hadn't thought about that at all! That would be great!! Mind you, I get really confused with names so I hadn't even known who was head honcho at the moment... ^^;;;
