Below is just a bulletin I got (from Myspace). I wanted to save it because it reminds me of how much the world has changed since we were children. Our children are going to be so plugged in to to their own version of the Matrix, they won't even understand the idea of waiting for an hour for your favorite song to come on the radio so you could record it on a cassette (instead of simply looking it up on itunes and getting it on their super, tiny laptops in a few seconds). They won't understand actually having to make sure you turned on the tv at the right time to watch your favorite show, or having to wait till your mom felt like taking in your fieldtrip photo film canister to get it developed, or even what it was it like before 12 year olds were texting.

All the shows I used to watch are already on TV Land. That is even beyond my understanding of media culture! Will they even know about 'I Dream of Jeanie' and 'The Monsters', all those wonderful shows now replaced by Fresh Prince and Saved By the Bell.

Finally, have you noticed all the crappy versions of the old stuff we had as kids coming back for the newer generation!?!?!? Transformers, the movie, is just about the only thing that they've brought back and done right.

Without further adue, the Bulletin:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you're under the age of 15...you shouldn't even read this,
and if you do, you should not repost this.

Just because you were born in '97 doesn't mean you're a 90's kid.

It's not like you could remember the original Simpsons.
I am sorry but three conscious years of the 90's just wont cut it.

You're a 90's kid if:

You remember watching:
-Doug
-Ren & Stimpy
-Pinky and the Brain
-AAAAAAAH Real Monsters!
-Rockos modern Life.
-Rugrats
-Gargoyles
-Are you afraid of the dark

You've ever ended a sentence with the word "PSYCHE!"

You just cant resist finishing this . . . "Iiin west Philadelphia born and raised . . ."

You remember:
-Step by Step
-Family Matters!!!
-Dinosaurs
-Boy Meets World!!!!

You remember when it was actually worth getting up early
on a Saturday to watch cartoons.

You remember reading "Goosebumps"

You still get the urge to say "NOT" after (almost) every sentence . . . not

When everything was settled by:
-rock paper scissors or
-bubble gum bubble gum in a dish or
-ms. mary mack

when kick ball was a daily activity.

when we used to obey our parents

You used to listen to the radio all day long just to record your FAVORITE song of ALL time on a tape.

You remember when Super Nintendos and Sega Genisis became popular.

You remember The Original Game Boy.

You always wanted to send in a tape to America's Funniest Home Videos . . . but never taped anything funny.

You remember watching:
-The Magic School Bus
-Wishbone
-Reading Rainbow
-and Ghostwriter on PBS

You remember when Yo-Yos were cool.
You remember those Where's Waldo books.
You remember eating Warheads and Splashers Gum.

You remember watching:
-the 1st Batman
-Aladdin
-Ninja Turtles
-ghost busters

You remember Ring Pops.

If you remember when every thing was "da BOMB!"

You remember boom boxes .vs. cd players.

Making those little paper fortune cookie things, and then predicting your life with them.

You played and/or collected "Pogs" smile

You had at least one Tamagotchi, GigaPet, or Nano and brought it everywhere.

one word. . . . . . . .trolls.

Windows 95 was the best.

You watched the original cartoons of
-Rugrats
-Wild Thornberry's
-Power Rangers
-Rocket Power.

All your school supplies were "Lisa Frank" brand.

You collected those Beanie Babies.

Carebears

Lambchop's song never ended.

Silver dollars, which were cool to have.

Everyone watched the WB.

If you even know what an original walkman is.

You know the Macarena by heart.

"Talk to the hand" . . . enough said

You went to McDonald's to play in the playplace.

You remember playing on merry go rounds at the playground.

Before the MySpace frenzy . . .
Before the Internet & text messaging . . .
Before Sidekicks & iPods . . .
Before PlayStation3 or X-BOX 360 . . .
Before Spongebob . . .
Before Tupac was shot.
When light up sneakers were cool.
When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs.

When gas was $0.95 a gallon.
When we recorded stuff on VCRs.
You had slap bracelets!
You Actually played outside until it was dark!

Way back.

Before we realized all this would eventually disappear.

I was so an 80's kid (I was born in the late 70's)

I miss playing outside with my friends....I miss the old school cartoons of My Little Pony, Rainbow Brite, He-Man, She-Ra

Thunder Cats....oh the old school Transformers, Smurfs and The Chipmunks

Life was so much simpler without all the technology. Don't get me wrong technology now is cool- but kids actually did stuff back in the day that required them to run around and use their brains- not sit in front of the computer or TV all day long.

I sure don't miss the clothing or the hair

The music was awesome though so were the Brat Pack movies smile

Born in Mid 80's, but my Sister was born in Early 80's. I'd play with her original My little ponies and listened to She-ra on Cassette tapes on family vacations. Those were the times where you couldn't just "skip" to the next song and you had to listen/wait for the next one to come on the tape.

Clarissa explains it all & Salute your Shorts heart Not to mention that arcade gameshow.

I remember on weekends when my father drove me to see my grandma the radio would be playing 1980's rock hits, and they weren't called oldies then.

Now Avatar is popular with my Fiance's 8 year old brother. When he asked if I saw it I said, "No, I missed it when it came on." He then gave me a look like I was an idiot and said, "Well why didn't you TiVo it?" I tried to explain to the boy that I have regular Cable with no Tivo and he had no idea what that was...That made me die a little inside.

90's kid here! I remember about 90% of the bulletin and have done/watched most of that. And thinking back on some of it, I miss it. It was an era of innocence, none of this "gotta work like a fiend to pay the bills" and making your way in the world. Kids are growing up way too fast and are not relishing their childhood or are too reliant on technology. I hate seeing 7 year-olds with cell phones..

I was born in the mid-80s....I wish a lot of things still was the same like it was back then... the music was more meaningful (who cares about the hoe's and the bling bling...)...television was awesome....Alanis Morsette kicked my arse.....and everything was so great. I downloaded the Spin doctor's 'two princes' song and people think i'm odd because even though i still like my metal and alternative songs... i'm still always going to love my 80s and 90s music even better. >.<

I was born mid-80s, oh man I've been on such a nostalgia kick lately. Someone linked me to the Salute Your Shorts theme and a part of a Ghostwriter episode...I feel so old. sad

Though I do think we all look back fondly on being kids, I do feel discouraged with how much some are attached to technology. Students can't seem to be separated from their iPods or cell phones for the school day anymore.

The "new" versions of the shows I used to watch when I was little really really annoy me. Like, the new Strawberry Shortcake, My Little Pony, and even the "new" Winnie the Pooh.

However, I am glad that the popularity of old 80's cartoons is starting to show up in modern culture, because that means I can buy the DVD's of the original shows and make my kids watch those instead! 4laugh

I am waiting impatiently for DVD's of Rainbow Brite and Lady Lovely Locks (does anyone remember that show??)

What you miss from the 90s, or your childhood?
Oh god there is so much I miss! I miss when Disney movies were still good. I was a little mermaid fanatic. Umm, lets see. Bongo Skirts...I actually still think that those were cute. Pound Puppies. Too much to list.

What do you think it will be like for our children?
I think that they are so screwed. They are going to be practically machines with all those new gadgets constantly coming out what seems like every week. They are not going to be able to think for themselves. Might as well hook them all up to my CPU.

What do you wish was still around?
Nsync...I know I know...silly, but I loved them. I wish I could still find that Skippers resturaunt. Britney's sanity. Good TV shows. Tape Players...I have tons of tapes that me and my brothers recorded ourselves being dorks on that I love. The idea that women still looked good with a little meat on their bones.

what do you NOT miss at all?
The Hairstyles, Barney, Power Rangers, Jelly Sandles, Baywatch, a bunch o' stuff
