Did a topic like this on the general Gaia RP board a while back, now I want to test it out here.

Basically this is a casual Tales of Lethe roleplay, which means it's set on Lethe, but we won't be using any of the game rules; it's just in written roleplay format. Consider it ToL for beginners.

RULES:

The rules are fairly simple.

- Follow all of the guild rules! That means no swearing! And if you MUST be romantic, don't take it to inappropriate levels!
- Absolutely no godmoding or powerplaying. Controlling others' characters is considered very rude by myself and a majority of other intelligent roleplayers. And being invincible, impervious to any kind of negative effect, and knowing every spell in your alignment is just annoying and ruins the game for other players.
- Your character absolutely may NOT have more than one elemental alignment. Such a thing runs completely contrary to how the magical system of Lethe works. Since this obviously isn't the actual game with all of its rules and regulations, I have no way to check characters' spell knowledge, but please keep it reasonable.

Before we begin, here are some things you need to know about the world.

- There are nine races that inhabit the planet of Lethe:

THE HUMANS are one of the most populous species. They live in all areas of the world and come in all sorts of ethnicities.

THE SALGUIN, or the Light Ones, resemble Humans except for their pointy ears and the white feathered wings on their backs that allow them to fly.

THE MORCAI, or the Dark Ones, resemble Humans except for their pointy ears and the black leathery wings on their backs that allow them to fly.

THE RAMANS are a tall, thin race characterized by the large, flight-capable wing feathers growing from their arms, and the smaller, whiskerlike feathers on their cheeks.

THE DRAGONS are a large, quadrupedal, reptilian race with massive scaly wings. They are solitary and dwell in the mountains.

THE DWARVES are a diminutive, stocky race with a great love of technology and machinery.

THE FAIRIES are an immortal, all-female race with the appearance of children--and the maturity levels as well.

THE BIHRUNGS are best described as shark dragons. They travel the oceans of Lethe in family pods.

THE CENTAURS, half Human, half horse, are a proud race with a tribal society. They host the annual Great Hunt on the Shouldred Plains.

- Each individual born on Lethe has the ability to manipulate magic of a certain element. This is known as having an affinity for that element.

- The ten elements are:

FIRE - Element of combustion and heat.

EARTH - Element of rock and metal.

ELECTRICITY - Element of charges and magnetism.

WATER - Element of moisture and liquids.

AIR - Element of gases and winds.

PLANT - Element of vegetable life and functions.

ANIMAL - Element of animal life and functions.

LIGHT - Element of luminescence.

DARKNESS - Element of shadow.

SPIRIT - Element of soul.

- Technically, each race has its own set of probabilities for each element (utilized during character creation), but since this isn't the actual game, I'll go ahead and let you pick any one element for your character.

- The dominant light and energy source on Lethe is High Magic Cores, small tetrahedral objects that constantly give out a strong magical light. Although they only appear on semi-annual Corefall Nights, when they float gently from the sky in a random area, they are the most preferred source of illumination and power, as the pure magic within them never exhausts and they do not output any of their energy as heat.

- I think I've covered all of the basics you'll need to know for this RP, but if you have any further questions or things that need clarifying, please let me know.

So just make up a character (or, if you already play the game, go ahead and use your game character), and jump on in! I'll be making the first post to set the scene and give you something to work off of.

- One last thing before we start; please don't use any of the above information without my permission. Everything about Tales of Lethe is copyrighted to me, and I've worked very hard on the game and don't want to see any part of it stolen. Thanks.

Sierra sighed as she leaned against a wooden post near the entrance of the campgrounds. The young Centaur looked out over the horizon, to see if anyone else was coming to the Great Hunt. Because airships were not permitted to land on the Shouldred Plains (so as to not disturb the wildlife), all of the participants in the Hunt were required to arrive on foot (or on a mount).

The sun beat down on her lower back as she flicked the flies away with her tail. The Hunt took place in early autumn, but the afternoons were still hot, almost unbearably so. Sierra cast a quick body-cooling spell, then turned to look at the archery range, where other Centaurs were setting up for the archery contest, which would be held later that day. Sierra smiled. She had been assigned to greet new guests, but she would receive a break in order to compete. Archery was her first love, and the competition had always been her favorite part of the festivities.

OOC: By the way, here's two pictures of Sierra so you can get an idea of what she looks like:

OOC: No, it's a tabletop roleplaying game in the vein of Dungeons & Dragons.

Vræl sat on his horse a he approached the site for the Great Hunt.
He he stared at the back of his hand where the tell tale mark was.
Shaped like a 14 point star, it shined in the afternoon sunlight.
He brushed his hand through his short blond hair as the sun beat down on him.
He would be arriving soon, to sell his healings and medicine during the event.

Vræl could see the industry of the Centaurs at work as they prepared for the arrival of
the multitudes coming to the Great Hunt.
He got off his snowy white steed, Torbo, and walked down the hill towards the event.
As he walked the orb on his staff flashed momentarily in the light of the setting sun.
Something good would finally come of his misfortunes, he was sure of it.

Sierra's head snapped up from where it was resting on her palm as she saw the figure coming over the hill. It was the second day of the week-long festival, and the second day was always hard if you were assigned to greeting duties, because most of the participants always came either before or during the first day (when the opening ceremonies were held). As she rubbed the lethargy from her eyes, it was obvious she hadn't seen much action that day. She quickly glanced over at the archery range, where preparations were almost finished, before turning her attention to the new arrival. She stood up straight and folded her arms in a stern manner, as she had been taught by her father, the chieftain of her tribe.

"Good afternoon, visitor," she called to him. "May I direct you to the registration booth?"

Vræl looked at the powerful centaur that called to him.
This being his first time to the Great Hunt he had never seen a living centaur before.
He felt slightly intimidated by her commanding presence.
"Um, yes, thankyou. I'm here to sell healings and medicine during the Hunt. C-could you tell, how long does the Hunt usually last? See this is my first time here."
He absently stroked Torbo's mane as he talked.

Sierra's countenance softened a bit. Centaurs were supposed to be serious and no-nonsense, especially during this, their most important of annual ritual events...but she just couldn't help but want to be outgoing and friendly to everyone. Besides, this poor guy was looking a little intimidated. It was old news to Sierra by now. Most people who weren't Centaurs or didn't work closely with them tended to be intimidated by the 8-foot-tall young horse-woman. Out of all the peoples of Lethe, only the seventy-foot-long Dragons commanded more respect than the Centaurs. But it really put a damper on Sierra's social efforts outside of her own race.

She sighed, and allowed a small smile to creep onto the corners of her mouth, hoping to let Vrael know that she wasn't half as intimidating as appearances let on.

"First time, hm?," Sierra replied. "The Hunt lasts for one week, and since it is currently the second day, there are five days remaining. Many of the participants are currently on the Ritual Hunt, which started this morning, and they will not be back for another two days," she rehearsed. "In the meantime, there are many activities to enjoy, such as feasts, trading booths, and an archery competition that will begin shortly." She paused for a moment. Perhaps there was some way to get herself over to the competition while helping this newcomer. "Here, let me show you to the registration booth, erm..." She waited, prompting him to introduce himself.

"Vræl, my name is Vræl," he smiled back as he noticed a slight grin appear on the Centaur's face, "and thankyou for your help. I'd be lost if I hadn't run into you."
As they walked towards the registration booth, he noticed the set up for the archery competition.
"I've heard that Centaurs are masters at archery! Will you be participating in the competition? It would be fun to watch! Oh! I'm sorry, I never asked your name, how rude of me..."
He looked down as he realized his mistake.
"I hope you're not mad at me..."

Sierra suppressed a laugh, instead making it come out as more of a "hmph!" sound. "Of course I'm not mad at you." This is the first time someone's asked my name all day, she thought. Usually I just point them in the direction of registration. "My name is Sierra. Well met, Vrael."

She looked toward the archery range. The other competitors were gathering, and one of the judges looked over at Sierra as if to ask her if she was coming. She gave him a quick nod and held up a finger, gesturing she would only be a minute. "Yes, I will be participating," she said to Vrael. "And you are quite welcome to watch."

The Centaur standing at the registration booth held out a paper and pencil to Vrael. "Just write your name and a brief explanation of what you'll be doing during the Hunt," Sierra explained.

"Thankyou for your help Sierra, may the Twilight guide your hand."
With that he bowed farewell to Sierra, and turned to the Centaur with the pencil and paper, guiding along Torbo and talking to him all the while.

"A healing vendor, hm?" the dark-haired Centaur commented as she scanned Vrael's paper. "One moment, please." She held her fingers to her mouth and whistled hard.

A young male Centaur with light brown hair and coat and twinkling green eyes galloped up and raised a hand in greeting to the two of them. "Hail, Cirque," he said. "Who might this be?" He looked down at Vrael and Torbo.

"This man, Vrael, is a healing vendor, Tarn," Cirque explained, showing him the papers. "Would you please direct him to a free booth?"

Tarn grabbed a folded-up sheet of paper from the sack slung over his shoulder and studied it carefully. "Yes, I think there's a free one over in the East Sector. Follow me," he concluded, nodding to Vrael as he tucked the paper back into his sack.

The fairgrounds were crowded and noisy as people of all races mingled, talking and eating while vendors shouted out their wares from their booths. Not too far away was the archery range, where Sierra could be seen, towering over the non-Centaur competitors, her bow cocked and her eyes completely concentrated on the target, waiting for the announcer's signal.

As he walked off following the centaur Cirque and leading Torbo, he looked back at Sierra.
"Thankyou! If you ever need any help you can count on me! OeNe good turn deserves another!"
And with that he left to go sell his potions and incantations.
Maybe his luck would finally turn around.

Suddenly, his birthmark pricked him and Torbo jolted slightly under the potion packs strapped to the saddle.
One vial fell out, but that was enough...
