It seems Censorship hits us from every single direction, with this Federal misCommunications Committee requiring radio and Television stations to not say certain words or show certain body parts or violence...

We've come a long way since Lucy and Ricky couldn't sleep in the same bed in the 50s... but we need to progress further. Censorship should be in the hands of the parents, not the Government. I mean, lets get real, people. Fred Durst throws up his hand and its blurred, you know what gesture he's making (Limp Bizkit - Nookie music video), Eminem has a *beep* every third word... you KNOW what he's saying, and hey, while we're at it, why not obscure a nude Jeri Ryan with back shots and a painting in progress. C'mon... aren't we getting just a LITTLE BIT ridiculous when we know EVERYTHING that's going on?

Its completly ridiculous. The best way to star chipping away at the FCC is with special order Cable/sattlite channels, where uncencored programing is aired. Since you have to specifically order these channels, theres not much chance of anybody being offended by the content. Next would be de-censoring equipment, which would take regular, censored programming and un-censor it. Again, you would have to buy and use this equipment, so not much chance of anyone being offended. The third step would be promotion of V-chips and other devices that place censorship back into the parents hands. The final step would be to abolish the FCC's power to censor progtramming, arguing that with the completion of step three, everyone will be able to censor any programming they think innapproriate. With a clear, consise battle plan, we can beat governemnt censorship once and for all.

The government should have absolutely no say in what we can here or see. I think it's great if a parent wants to use a program to block certain channels in their house. I think a better approach would be for a parent to talk to their children about taboo subjects they can be exposed to: like sex and violence. It's not too hard to draw a distinction between T.V. and real life.

What gets me is that the government says we can't show sex, because of the message to children, but we see people get shot constantly. The government should not try to be our moral compass

I myself think that if i had kids (i probably never will; can't stand people making noise in my house) I'd let 'em watch whatever the hell they wanna watch. Encourage them to be open. hell, if they wanna watch some porn i'd be like "ok, here's my own collection (point them to a completely NOT hidden folder on my computer)" and tell 'em if they want the playboy channel or something like that, they'd have to do some extra chores or, if they're old enough, get a job... you know, to pay that part of the bill. and stuff. Aside from cost factor, i don't think i'd be too concerned. paranoid parenting leads to weak, sheltered children.
