If you were to die on a battlefield, would you rather go with Freyja or Odin?
In Vikings' belief, if brave warriors are slain in battles they will go to Asgard to serve as Einherjars.
Snorri writes in Gylfaginning that "wherever she rides to battle, she gets half the slain" (Faulkes translation). But Freyja and the Valkyries certainly do not actively participate in fights of humans, they just go to where battles occur and guide the fallen to heaven. And though Freyja receives some of those warriors slain on the battlefield, there is no record of how that occurs. Does Freyja pick them herself? Or do Odin or the Valkyries decide? There are no answers to these questions in surviving tales.
The oral tradition explains that Odin's warriors are "the offensive", or those who dedicate their life to fighting. Freyja’s warriors are "the defensive", or those who only fight to protect their families, clans or goods. The historian Else Roesdahl noticed that a difference between the two cultures in regards to burials containing weapons. In those in Norway the buried warriors had defensive shields, and in Denmark they had only offensive weapons.
lives in the beautiful palace Folkvang ("field of folk"), a place where love songs are always played, and her hall is Sessrumnir.
Edit: There is another person. Those who die of old age or sickness are taken to Hel. In Norse mythology, Hel (sometimes Anglicized or Latinized as Hela) is the ruler of Hel, the Norse underworld. Hel's hall is named Éljúðnir. Hel is both a Nordic goddess and one of the nine worlds. When Odin became aware of the existence of Loki's children, he banished them to remote places. He then cast Hel down to her realm in the underworld and gave her authority over all those in the nine worlds who do not die gloriously in battle but of sickness or of old age.

I'm definitely a defensive-natured person, so Freyja would most likely be whom I travel with 3nodding

I would want to go with Odin, as we're very close and I don't know Freyja particularly well. I leave the decision-making to them. 3nodding

With all respect to Odin, I'd probably be more suited to hang with Freya. ^^

Truthfully speaking, I can't think of myself going with either one of them, not with Odin, not with Freyja. But if I had to choose... Well, I have never liked the idea of Odin's hall, even though I like fighting. So I'd follow Freyja.

My two-cents 4laugh
Freyja is given first pick of those slain in battle, and Odinn is allowed the rest. I would guess that Freyja picks those she wants. It doesn't make much sense to me for Odinn to agree to give Freyja first pick, but then pick the ones she's getting.
I'm not sure whose hall I'd go to. I do tend to be on the offensive though, so Odinn's hall would be my choice. Really though, for now, I'd like to go to Frigg's hall or I'd just be happy in Helheim.

I'm a protector. I only attack people if they attack me, or if I am after revenge/avenging my friends and loved ones. That seems very Odinnic to me

I'd probably go to Freyja for two reasons. Firstly I feel very connected to her and secondly, I'm not a born warrior or anything but if someone tries to harm me or my family, or those I consider my family I will fight with everything I have.

I would choose to follow Odin if given the choice, but knowing my luck Loki will lay his claim on me first before Odin or Freyja get the chance. The trickster has a habit of doing that to me. Getting his hand in there on any given situation, sometimes before I fully realise what is going on.

Honestly, I'd Go with Freyja. I am one to protect the ones I love more than just getting up and fighting.

He doesn't have anywhere to put them, anyway.

Well, most of us would if we're speaking generally, Loona wink But I don't think Hel gets any of them who die honourably on the field of battle.
