Although I'm biologically female and content to remain that way, I've never felt very masculine or feminine in a psychological sense. If pressed to select a gender identity for myself, rather than "man" or "woman" I would probably choose "androgyne." An androgyne is one who is androgynous. Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary Main Entry: an·drog·y·nous Pronunciation: an-ˈdrä-jə-nəs 1: having the characteristics or nature of both male and female 2 a: neither specifically feminine nor masculine b: suitable to or for either sex 3: having traditional male and female roles obscured or reversed Personally, I would go with definition 2a, although 1 could also work. I've been doing some research and have started wondering how people account for androgyny (and other sorts of gender variance) spiritually. Is there something different in the soul that causes it? Is it a marker for some other spiritual condition? In certain Native American cultures, "two-spirits" are regarded as having special powers or insights. Among other cultures, deviations from gender norms is considered an unwelcome abnormality, almost like being deformed. I would be interested in hearing your opinions and insights based on your spirituality and personal perspective. Don't be afraid of speaking up. I'm very hard to offend.

well in this sense it could work because i believe that ballance in ones life is a huge goal and apparently you have ballanced your gender speciffic energies into one center and whole.

*Shrug* Balancing may or may not be what it's about. Personally, I've never really gotten the whole 'gender-specific energy' thing. To me, energy is energy... but meh. It may exist, it may not, likely as not it does. But that's by-the-by.
Androgyny, at least mentally, I think is based on a lot of things - not all of which are paranormal. Part of the reason I myself am mentally androgynous is because I have always been taught to see through another's eyes - to get another's perspective. So I learned how to lose my mind's gender.
But it's much the same as asking why do we have raving psychos, infinitely patient people, loving people, people who can hold a grudge... it's just another aspect of the mind.

I've never identified with genders myself, and gender isn't something I consciously note about people. There are probably several reasons for this, and it's probably different for each person, but for me I think my soul is genderless. Also, I seem to have had just as many past lives where I was male as I was female, and my empathy probably also makes me relate less to gender since I can see things from other people's eyes easier.

So, if one's soul is genderless then what causes people to feel definitely masculine or feminine? It could be social conditioning, although that wouldn't explain why one sibling may feel androgynous while their brothers and sisters - raised in essentially the same manner and environment - definitely "feel" like their biological gender.
I usually ascribe gender to psychology, sociology, and hormones. However, I've been thinking it'd be interesting to explore the spiritual dimension of it for personal growth reasons, if nothing else. So that's basically where this is all coming from.

Are souls inherently genderless, or are they sexless? There is a difference, as mute_coyote is hinting at. Sex is your biological "parts", while gender is the identity issue dealing with masculinity and femininity.
I do think souls tend to have a gender leaning. Now where any given one is put on the gradient scale is different.
And because of this, I want to apologize for my first post. I wasn't paying attention. I meant sex, not gender. I know I have a feminine leaning, or so others have said, but I personally don't feel it.

well i think that the gender of the soul leans towards its sex via the concentration of masculine or femine energy but again there in lies the ambiguity of the essence of the soul.
