Some of you may be asking, "What's Urban Fantasy?" I still can't figure out if I coined the term or not, since no one's familiar with it. That is, until I describe it, in which case everyone knows what it is. Urban fantasy is what this world would be like if technology evolved alongside magick. If magick had been a common, believed, practiced thing ever since technology began to flourish. So, say, you have a car that's fueled not by gasoline, or hydrogen, or solar power, but by magick. Maybe it doesn't even run on wheels. It really opens up the possibilities of where technology could go. If this sounds familiar, think of some of the latest Final Fantasy games, especially XII. The upcoming FFXIII games should be a good example of it as well.
What made me really interested in it was how much more beautiful the world would be. Cities could be built in, among, around, throughout nature rather than instead of. Not only that, but buildings would probably have countless more details and possibilities than our present technology can afford. Each architect could have his own artistic touch on a building in many more ways than simply the layout or use of arches. Buildings could be supported much higher up, creating levels in cities, the upper levels connected by arching walkways or hovering taxis/trains/'elevators'.
I still haven't decided if I want to use this world for a graphic novel, an online forum rp world, or an actual video game. Maybe I'll use it for all three, who knows. Anyway, this is the first doodle I've gotten done with my tablet, to be layered and detailed as time goes on.
