I'm vegan but...
I still eat fish, 'cause fish is a vegetable, not an animal
I eat your mom. It's ok if she's vegan too.
  only when it's convenient.
  I am vegan, The End.
  I'm not vegan.

We've all heard someone say they're vegan, and then in the same sentence say they still eat something that is TOTALLY NOT VEGAN.

So, what is the most ridiculous "I'm veg*n, but..." line you've heard? Ones that really raise your blood pressure and make you think you're going to have a heart attack because it's so <******** ridiculous.

I just heard this one right here on Gaia:
"I'm vegan but I eat chicken once in a while to bring my protein levels back up."
gonk

This can apply to vegetarians as well. I've heard several stupid "I'm vegetarian but..." lines too.

My mum's friend kept on saying how great veganism is and then eating non-vegan things. She is so annoying.

Somebody on LJ said they were vegan but they ate fish/chicken during their period.
And somebody else said they were a pesco-vegan. Uh, seriously.

I know one vegan who gave up dairy products, but still ate meat...

I mean like, what the hell?

I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've said that I was a vegetarian, and then people asked "Do you eat fish?"
Let's see...Fish:
Is it a...Vegetable? No. Fruit? No. Grain? No.
Then why should I eat it?
Idiots, all of them.

When I tell people I'm vegan, I usually get asked what a vegan is, so I tell them that I don't consume or use any animal products to the best of my ability. They usually then go on to ask 'Do you drink milk then?' or something similarly ridiculous.

I despair...

freeganism?

vegans who would eat something with dairy/eggs in it if it was going to go to waste. i'd hate to see an animal's suffering go in vain.
would you consider them to be an annoying "i'm vegan, but..." case?

i've heard of "meaganism" but i don't think i could bear to ingest meat. i'd rather run around and try to find an omnivore to eat it first.

I think the fish thing is fine if you're being a vegan for health and not ethical reasons. It's still a meat, but it's nutrition-wise it isn't really the same as other meats. I will still eat it rarely... but no more than I did when I was an omnivore, which was almost never. I still don't consume eggs or dairy.

Pesco-vegan?
Are they just making this s**t up as they go along?

@ Toasty Marshmallow: I would rather somebody stood up and said, "No, it's wrong to exploit animals" than eat my body or secretions so I wouldn't "die in vain."

@ Essence of Evil: If you're vegan, you don't eat or use any animal products - period. People who eat vegan for health reasons (therefore use animal products, like leather, fur, silk, etc. most likely) are called strict vegetarians. When people call themselves vegan but actually still eat animal products, people get confused which is why we get so many ridiculous questions - and some of us have even been served food with meat, dairy, eggs, etc. in it because "they knew a vegan who ate X animal product."

@ PiercedPixie2: Sadly, no. ):

=[[[.
You guys are making me feel so bad.
Giving up shrimp was the hardest thing to do when I went vegan =[.
Apparently I can get vegan shrimp.
But it's basically a wad of sodium with other stuff in there for flavor =[.
So I'm currently fearing for my blood pressure and procrastinating on buying the stuff.

But if anyone has a website they can suggest where they sell vegan shrimp that doesn't freak out the body I'd love to have the link =D.

And eating fish for health really isn't the best idea =/.
Ingesting cholesterol is not really ever a good thing.
And then.
Sometimes there's mercury in fish (among other "treasures") =[.
Which can't always be the best thing(s) for your health.

And and and.
Those that admire vegans and say that it's a good lifestyle...
Don't b***h about them =[.
I was once one of them!
And I'm a (mostly) vegan now, more of a strict vegetarian, but people hear that and think I can drink milk and eat eggs.
So all war breaks out and so and so makes something-or-nother.
And then I can't eat it.
And everyone feels bad.

I haven't really heard this before... wait.... maybe a few times. Mostly its like "I could never go vegetarian because.........." or "I was veg*n before but.................... um........"and then trail off. Isn't it funny how people can say they're something and then contradict themselves in the same sentence? I think it's an issue of loaded wording.

@Lord:

That's what I hear, too.

"I could be vegan but I just love [Insert animal product here] too much!"

It annoys me.
