So I'm wondering, which story of El-ahrairah was your favorite and why?

Mine would have to be "The Hole in the Sky" from the sequel. I absolutely love how his trickery on a warren somehow comes back to him tenfold until he's so close to death that he sees the great hole in the sky. Boy, did the description of that thing REALLY creep me out!

I'd have to agree with Xera, if only because my namesake really proved his quality in that story. xD

I should definitely read this sequel though. o.o I'm getting the feeling that it won't be disappointing.

When I first read the title of this thread, I thought "what could she possibly mean by a group of rats?". Of course that's not what you meant by "mischeif". I like the story of tricking Prince Rainbow and the one of Black Rabbit of Inle.

Ooo, tough one. Probably either Kings Lettuce or the Black Rabbit of Inle one. I'd like to hear the hole in the sky though, as I'm yet to read the sequel. I just love the stories <3
I'm beginning to mix Lapine/Spanish/French/English into my words XD
(Because I speak Spanish/English perfectly, and a flawed French)
Screaming Flayrah at my friends when I want their cheese and lettuce sandwhich doesn't help me much xD

Oo... The Black Rabbit... now that was a creepy story... veery good, but quite unnerving blaugh

Most likely The Black Rabbit of Inle or The King's Lettuce. But Dandelion's such an awesome storyteller, you have to like them all. biggrin

The Black Rabbit of Inle.

It's some how refreshing to see El-ahrairah being tricked, instead of the other way around. Also, the ending, or when Dandelion is cut off by the arrival of the Fox, when he is given new ears, with a faint sparkle. Which is how Hazel recognises him in his burrow, just before his death.

For me, that story went hand in hand with the dark nature of the novel overall.

My favorite is the Black Rabbit of Inle.
I have a thing for dark/tragic stories (hence Watership Down being, in itself, rather tragic) and I like the sense of hopelessness and sacrifice the Black Rabbit of Inle story brings.
El-ahrairah was willing to go so far as to visit the grim reaper of rabbits to help his people. To me, it can take on so many meanings; it can reflect the everyday lives of an individual and the constant, difficult choices and sacrifices that he/she makes in life from day to day, especially choices and consequences that are life-changing. I think a lot of people feel like El-ahrairah from time to time - they're fighting for something, but they usually have to make a sacrifice to accomplish it.
But yeah, the Black Rabbit of Inle story has a lot of real meaning in it. It's like the climax of El-ahrairah's adventures (and it's kind of scary to relate it to the climaxes of our own lives, particularly because we don't know what those climaxes will be and we'll most likely ask the same question the rabbit prince would ask - Am I going to make it?)

I'm currently reading "Tales From Watership Down."
Lots of interesting El-ahrairah tales in there!
I think my favorite might have to change. XD
