Elegy of Twilight

He watched her go, eyes full of grief,
Oblivious to her final words.
The desert sands stung his eyes,
His heart broken, pretending all was fine.
His friend, his partner, his love,
Shrouded by twilight's final glow.
Informing his heart they were not to be.
Silently, his head hung low.
She was the only one who understood him,
Felt his pain, his fear.
His world collapsed around her.
Sorrow lapsed, the time, infinite.
The sound of breaking glass averted his gaze.
The mirror became dust.
She had vanished, his heart destroyed,
Shards of glass in the sand, his princess gone.
Words unspoken, his feelings caught in a web.
He never told her how he felt.
Through their journey, never a chance to say,
"I love you," and now it would never come.
Shadow cannot mix with light.
His heart, after her, took flight
