Hallowed Halls: To Spark a Dream (or two)
"And when I think of life and death, I do not dwell on where my body may lie, 10, 20 years from now. I pity those who do, in fact. Life is something to be cherished. It's divine; a sacred right that no force should ever be allowed to steal." ~Aurus DelNacht, Current Reigning Emperor of Half-Earth (and slaughterer of millions)
"There is something in these bones... I cannot name it, cannot place it. No, I daresay I can only feel it - I can only feel my invisible past kiss me with fortune this day." ~Ex-Cpt. Henry Packard, Leader of "Henry's Few", hours before their strategic victory at the Hudson River Basin Doyle scampered towards the new passageway like he always did, picking at his masked facial boils and muttering about time spent and time wasted. His features were almost always partially hidden by shadow, the dark grey hue cast over his face by his burlap hood. What bits and pieces did occasionally show were not too pretty.
It was certain he sported greasy strands of matted, possibly blonde hair. These fell over his eyes and only added to his...boyish charm. Though he was a very inviting man for a perfect stranger in a world where kindness unto others is a foolish pipedream, Doyle's facial features were, as far as most, if not all, of the party was concerned, monstrous.
His skin was pale, and most likely weathered, wrinkled and strained from the low light and harsh, damp conditions of the underground. His nose was bent, almost like a boxer's in that it most certainly appeared boxy and broken.
And that was all anyone could tell. It was best that he was known for his kindness and not his appearance.
In any event, once he reached the trap-stairs, he faced his party and bowed his hooded head, awaiting their approval.
"I await your approval."
Yes. He did. He awaited their approval. Oh, how he awaited the approving. Such approving to be waiting for. It was great that there would be approval in response to his waiting. So he waited. And...waited...

"Alright, alright..." muttered Liro, his eyes still fixed on the line of numbers as he was dragged off. 3, 7, 7, 9... he would remember that. Maybe it would be of some importance later... or maybe it would just lead him to something interesting.
"I think it's about time you start telling us why we're here, Doyle." commented Liro, brushing an errant strand of blonde hair from his eyes.

Unlike the last hour or so of "cavern time", Nicholas made sure he was among the first to come forward and be active. Lest he forget that, contrary to how he had previously viewed this meeting, something bigger than all of them was at stake. Though the warmth of the room he currently stood him spoke against that notion, he knew better, and so did his nerves. Before long, this was going to get real heavy, real fast.
And since he had committed...and gone this far...
"I'm ready, sir. I've absolutely no clue what I'm ready for, but I'm ready. That's what counts, right?"
He shot a fleeting smile in Doyle's general direction, but lack of response told him it didn't really connect. Oh well.

MG, wearing his "Ain't this more fun than a swift kick in the a**" grin, laced his hands behind his head and walked behind ol' Doyle, Liro, and Nicky-boy. His stomach felt like it was doing loop-the-loops with excitement, and he could barely contain the fit of mad laughter that threatened to overtake him.
"Approval? Indubitably, old chap." The gambler replied in a faux upper-class British accent. "Let the games begin, eh wot?"

Frowning, Kunai trudged along behind Doyle. He wore obvious disappointment after his failure to get that metal whatever before being led away somewhere else. Silently, poutily, Kunai vowed that his mind would not entirely be at ease until he could snatch the brass from the blaze. He'd be back, oh, most surely. All Things Had a Purpose.
"I'm all out of seals," Kunai said flatly, "but you have my approval anyways. Let's get on with it, yeah?"

Hm...everyone sure was taking a long time to come over to Doyle. Maybe it would be cool if he explored a l-hey! What the?
A newer cave opening appeared, as if out of nowhere, to the left of the fireplace. Marcus couldn't help but feel drawn to the dark yet alluring new opening.

MG gazed over at his fellow adventurers to see if any of them had noticed the new opening. He knew he should stay with Doyle, but his curiosity and eagerness were like fishhooks in his mouth, pulling him to the passageway.

///A Note From the Game Master's Terminal///
Sidequests
As you can see, player THRMG was just selected for a sidequest. Sometimes, more than one person will be chosen. Sometimes you will have a choice of even initiating one. The truth is that the system varies based on the story, what items you have, and how I view your character.
Tip: If you're original and interesting, I'll be more inclined to make up a sidequest that has a lot to do with your characteristics or interests.
As you'll see, certain sidequests will either involve fighting, treasure hunting or information gathering and puzzle-solving. The most solid truth you'll discover is that every sidequest, when completed successfully, will lead to some sort of gain. So look for sidequests. They're really helpful.

((D'aww, are you saying I'm original and interesting, Folchy?))
Pausing in front of the fireplace, the gambler stared into the dark passage for a moment before shrugging offhandedly and boldly striding down its stony throat.

Though he had not had a wall to be leaning against this time, Tobias had stilled managed to remain obscure from the others, until intentionally drawing attention to himself. He did not step forward this time, but let his voice lead the others' eyes to him.
"Though my approval is something that you would be hard pressed to find yourself receiving, I am willing and ready to proceed," he said, giving Doyle a cold stare which had the faintest implication of a smirk in it. Or, perhaps it was only imagined....
If all this did in fact amount to what he was anticipating it to be, he would rather they get this underway soon.

What the ********?? Was Marcus really sleeping right now, standing up like that? The hell he would be any longer!! At the top of his lungs, the frustrated Doyle shouted, "...MG! MARCUS GARRETH!? Marcus, wake up!!"
Damn kids, always dozing off when there was work to be done...

MG shook his head and blinked rapidly.
"Eh...? What's with all the racket, Uncle D? No need to shout." The gambler was quickly coming to realize that what he had just underwent hadn't been an ordinary dream, but to the others he'd merely been asleep. His hand went to the back of his head and felt for the gash he'd taken during the fight, to see if it had vanished or not.
