Hm...pretty long passageway. Dark and cold, too. Damp as all hell. After about 5 steps, it was clear that MG would need something to light his way, lest he fall prey to whatever traps or whatnot may be lurking ahead. On the other hand, however, he was a gambler. Did he want to risk his life in exchange for instant gratification of his bubbling curiosity?

As he pondered the situation, a light wind rolled in and out of the cavern, bringing the smell of putrid meat along on its return trip. A faint rumbling could be heard in the distance...like muffled thunder, it resonated for a good 15 seconds before fading out of earshot again.

[Choice 1]

It's not like he was scared of the dark... or the creepy cave, or the smell of death, or the nightmares that could be lurking ahead, or anything... he just figured he could make better headway if he had some light. Perhaps he could find something to burn and return to the fireplace to make an impromptu torch.

Time to create.

[MG] Architecture skill Activated!

----------------------------------------------------------------

///A Note from the Game Master's Terminal///
Architecture

Like to create? MSPaint? Color? Architecture is for you. With an idea in mind, sketch what you'd like to build. I'll let you know what supplies you'll need and how much DEX or what level you'll need to be to make the desired item. I'll also explain the capabilities and characteristics (specific) of your item based on how practical, smart, and detailed (you don't have to be a good artist) your creation is.

Once you've created your masterpiece, you can either e-mail me the file at baw284@nyu.edu, PM me the thing, or post it in the thread. Either method is appropriate and welcome, as long as I just get the thing. Good luck creating!

PS...Happy Presidents' Day

Hm...things to make a torch withhh.......

Well, there were some books, an open flame, coals...an umbrella sitting in an umbrella stand by the main opening, a fireplace tool rack (no tools), fine furnishings, a wooden cane (also by the door), and...well, that's what he gathered from his vantage point.

MG figured he could rig up a mighty Torchbrella right quick by stabbing a book on the end of the umbrella and lighting it in the fireplace.

Item Plan...successful! (PS, killer job)

Torchbrella
-Book (Medium) x1
-Umbrella x1
-Flame x1

As a weapon:
-PWR: 2
-DUR: 4
-ELM: Fire

As an item (torch):
-Lasts 3 hours (10-15 posts)
-Lights Dim-medium
-Lights 10-foot radius

You now have a means of lighting your way.

((Thanks Boss))

Torchbrella in hand, MG once again braved the dark passageway. The sputtering flames were rather ineffective, but it was much better than nothing.

Hm. Okay, so the cave was actually pretty small. Or, what he could see, at least. About 30 feet infront of him, down a small bend, was a large, thick gate. A control panel with 6 slots for digit input, each from zero to nine, sat directly to the left, wired straight to the hinges. A note was taped on its front, near the bottom.

MG jogged over to the gate--well aware of the rate the Torchbrella was burning out--gave it a precursory glance, and pulled the taped note free so he could read it.

The only thing written on the page was:

Cryptic.

However, MG didn't need to puzzle over it for long. It was probably referring to Einstein's theory of relativity, E=MC^2, except with numbers subsituted for energy, mass, and the speed of light. So...

Pinching the bridge of his nose, MG wished he had a calculator on hand. Instead he scratched figures on the stone wall with the semi-sharp tip of the Torchbrella.

E = 457 x 36^2.
E = 457 x 1296
E = 592,272

Hoping his remedial math was correct, MG punched 592,272 into the control panel.

Each digit locked in gave a short, approving beep, followed by the sound of a ringing bell when all six had been locked. The gate slowly curled open, and the residual growling returned, only far, far louder. It was accompanied by the sound of violently shaking chains and a series of thuds that seemed to come from the ground.

Though the gate had swung open towards him, blocking his view of what was making the racket, the sounds alone were enough to alert Marcus that something big was in there.

Fun fun fun...

Gulping loudly, MG slowly edged around the gateway and peered into the room the noises were coming from, holding the Torchbrella aloft to pierce the darkness as much as possible.

Perhaps it was a faint wind, maybe he overstepped, or possibly someone pushed him, but MG suddenly found himself all the way into the main cavern, the gate slammed shut and most defnitely locked behind him.

There was no longer a need for the torch...several electic lights were lit and attached to every wall.

In the middle was a platform, about 100 feet by 100 feet, also known as huge. To each corner, a large iron chain was tethered, each leading to one of four mechanical pulleys. Furthermore, the chains were joined by more chains. Chains that rattled. Chains that shook. Chains attached to a monstrous, blood-covered, armor-clad half-beast-half-dark knight that stood at least 12 feet tall.

When the Bloody Knight locked its red-glimmering eyes on MG, it unhinged its massive, cyborgian jaw and howled at the top of its lungs, nearly shattering the bright light sources around it. It thrashed. It shook. Then, finally, it brought up its massive right arm, bearing in its grasp a mighty steel blade at least the size of MG. Though its movements were restricted, it swung for MG and crashed just short of where he stood, leaving tremendous gashes in the rock floor below.

All in all, this ******** meant business.

BOSS BATTLE!

Conditions of War: Defeat boss

While the creature thrashed some more, MG heard his own voice echo through the cave.

"You can't fight this thing. You're not strong enough. Use your Movement mode to dodge its blows and at the very least, survive!"

Huh?

MG learned the Movement mode!

///A Note from the Game Master's Terminal///

Lolzorz.

Modes
Fighting "Modes" affect the pacing, style, and speed of battles. You can switch modes at any time, and it may be necessary to jump from mode to mode to either survive or win your fight. At the present, MG has two modes available to him: Movement and Normal.

In the Movement mode, post actions can be (and should be) very descriptive, and each will be followed by a response post by myself. While in movement mode, certain actions you describe will be labeled and catalogued with specific terminology and action prompting, such as rolling, guessing, or timed posting.

Good luck!

((Switch to Movement Mode, if it wasn't automatic. Sweet pic, BTW))

"Jesus Stump-Jumpin' Chainsmokin' CHRIST!!" The gambler shouted, backing way-the-hell up against the wall, as far from the monstrosity as he could get as his wide, wild eyes scanned the room for a place to hide, a ladder to climb, or another exit... anything that would get him away from the horrific, macabre thing that very obviously wanted to kill him. Most especially his gaze set on the chains that held the Bloody Knightmare in check, trying to gauge how much slack they had and how far the monster could reach.
