Now, my friend who also plays bass, says that I need to learn how to play bass using my left pinky. Now honestly, I don't see the point of using it unless your going from the first fret, to the tenth or something. Should I start using my pinky finger when playing?

yes! for sure! The pinky is quite useful... for many things and opens up a ton of doors... unless you're talking about picking with it... that's useless... in my oppinion.. build your dexterity with your pinky and you'll see

Shogun Drizzt yes! for sure! The pinky is quite useful... for many things and opens up a ton of doors... unless you're talking about picking with it... that's useless... in my oppinion.. build your dexterity with your pinky and you'll see Yeah, what he said. Scaling scales and arpeggio's and octave intervals is so much easier once you learn how to effectively use that pinky. Just be sure to use your ring and middle finger to assist when you're pressing down with your pinky, it'll cost you much less effort.

Ah thanks! I have been trying to play with my pinky more, but I can usually reach most of the frets with my index, middle, and ring finger, so I never use it much... But thanks for the advice!
