Thought I might put together a compilation of other movies and cartoon series that might be of interest to those who enjoyed the movie or cartoon series of Watership Down.

I'll stick anything you mention up here in the first post, with whatever little description you like. :3

I'll start off with three of my own favorites...

(some if not all of these are aimed at a more mature audience, just so you know and as a warning- hooray for animations that aren't aimed at an audience all under the age of 13!)

-Plague Dogs (movie) (can be found on YouTube) Off another book by Richard Adams, and animated by the same people who did Watership. It revolves around two dogs who escape from an animal testing facility in the English countryside, and their struggle for freedom.

-Felidae (movie) (can be found on YouTube) German film off of another book, but can be found in English. The plot revolves around a cat named Francis who has just moved to a new neighborhood and must solve some rather bizarre cat-murders. (involves animal testing and religious themes, as well as sex)

-The Animals of Farthing Woods (cartoon series) (can be found on YouTube) This series follows a hodge-podge group of animals driven out of their woodland home which is being developed by humans, Farthing Woods, and their search for a protected animal reserve called White Dear Park. (I'm gonna put a little warning here for lots of animal death.)

The Secret of NIMH Based on the novel Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien, it the story of the mouse Mrs. Frisby (or Mrs. Brisby in the movie) who can't move her family into their summer home because one of her son's is ill. So she goes to the feared rats of NIMH for help. Having their own problems, the rats agree to move Mrs. Frisby's house to a place safe from the plough, but only if she helps them with their problem. (Suggested by Fiori Degani)

LOST I'd recommend it because the struggle is the same: Each is trying to find their place and they are all looking for a new home. There are struggles for power and alliances formed between many.
You should only watch it if you like mysteries though.
(more Watership/LOST info here.)
(Suggested by Fiver Lapine, link provided by Shoujo)

The Last Unicorn -- The story of the mythological creature as she goes in search for the rest of the unicorns when she hears from man that she's the last. She's determined to find out what really happened to the rest of them. (suggested by Shoujo)

Flight of Dragons -- The world as we know it is coming to a final disagreement: should we forget magic and accept only science? In an attempt to save the magical world because there's no chance the world could survive without it, a magician and two of his brothers call forth a man from the world of science to help. (suggested by Shoujo)

Once Upon a Forest -- Man has paid little respect to the forest. When a car passes by a forest, a bottle is thrown and breaks into sharp glass. Soon after, a cemi comes and blows its tire because of the glass. As a result, it overturns and the poisonous gas held within is released into the woods. Some of the creatures living there die from it, but one little badger girl was lucky enough to be saved by her friends. Unfortunately, she becomes deathly ill, and so they go out on an adventure to try and make it back in time with the right herbs she needs. A very heartwarming, open-your-eyes tale. (suggested by Shoujo)

Wolf's Rain -- It's a futuristic/anti-utopia anime about wolves seeking a "paradise". The wolves have some sort of power to hide among humans by using a sort of human disguise. (suggested by Zooshi)

Arashi no Yoru Ni -- During a storm, Mei the goat seeks shelter in a dark ban. He notices someone else is in the barn but can't see each other in the dark. They befriend each other during the storm, and agree to meet again using a code phrase to know each other. Turns out, Mei's new friend is a wolf named Gabu, and he's from the pack that hunts Mei's herd. despite this, Mei and Gabu decide to still be friends and continue secretly meeting each other. Unfortunately, Mei's herd and Gabu's pack learn of this strange friendship and the problems start. It isn't licensed in the US, so it can be found at animesuki.com (suggested by Fiori)

The Silver Brumby -- The silver stallion is the most special of all...A silver brumby is special, but he will be hunted by man and horse alike, and must be stronger than both. Thowra, the magnificent silver stallion, is king of the brumbies. But he must defend his herd from the mighty horse, The Brolga, in the most savage of struggles. That is not the only danger. Thowra needs all his speed and cunning to save his herd from capture by man. In a desperate chase through the mountains, it seems there is no longer anywhere for him to run to... (suggested by Pain)

So feel free to suggest more away, and I'll add them up here!

I'm not really looking for favorite movies, but more... movies you'd suggest to people who liked Watership Down, so things that in some relate to Watership on some lever (like, similar genre, themes, character types, the animal perspective idea, things like that)

An oldie but goodie, a movie I saw when I was little (that carbon dates me, hehe) and that I recomend to anyone (either the movie or the book it's based on):

The Secret of NIMH Based on the novel Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien, it the story of the mouse Mrs. Frisby (or Mrs. Brisby in the movie) who can't move her family into their summer home because one of her son's is ill. Unfortunately, I can't get Youtube to open to see if there are any clips. But the movie is on dvd, so I do recommend buying it because it's worth it.

Well, there's the TV series "LOST."

I'd recommend it because the struggle is the same: Each is trying to find their place and they are all looking for a new home. There are struggles for power and alliances formed between many.
You should only watch it if you like mysteries though.

As to prove Fiver's point more:

That goes into some detail about comparisons of the two. I used to be a fan of Lost when it first came out, but school got in the way and it's almost impossible to jump into this series without starting over.

Added both of those to the list.

I can't believe I forgot bout NIHM XD... I absolutely loved both the book and the movie when I was little.

And, ja. LOST... we're such LOST addicts at my house... my parents had a party the other night, and all we did the entire time was talk about LOST XD

Here's some of the ones I like that kind of have some common themes:

The Last Unicorn -- The story of the mythological creature as she goes in search for the rest of the unicorns when she hears from man that she's the last. She's determined to find out what really happened to the rest of them.

Flight of Dragons -- The world as we know it is coming to a final disagreement: should we forget magic and accept only science? In an attempt to save the magical world because there's no chance the world could survive without it, a magician and two of his brothers call forth a man from the world of science to help. Yes, dragons are involved xd

I'm trying to think of things with similar story lines. So far the only animated series that comes to mind is Wolf's Rain. It's fairly popular, and you all have probably seen it, I know, but for those who haven't, it's a futuristic/anti-utopia anime about wolves seeking a "paradise". The wolves have some sort of power to hide among humans by using a sort of human disguise.

Another anime movie along these lines is Arashi no Yoru Ni.

Omg, I LOVE Animals of Farthing Wood! I watched it ALL the time as a kid, and I had all the magazines.
It is extremely similiar to WD as both sets of animals move away from their homes, because of humans, in search of a new one. Hazel and co obviously found WD, and the Fox and co found White Deer Park.

I am SUCH a dork.

I LOVE The Secret of NIMH, The Last Unicorn, and Flight of the Dragons!

I read Mrs. Brisby and the Rats of NIMH. Though it's intended for younger readers, I thought it was still a little darker than the movie (and the movie itself did take on a somewhat dark tone.)
I read The Last Unicorn, but I don't know if Flight of the Dragons is based on a book.
I used to watch Once Upon a Forest when I was little. I think I actually still have the VHS somewhere...Based on an old Welsh fairytale, if memory serves me.

Arashi no Yoru Ni sounds beautiful. I'm definitely going to look into that one.

Ok, I've updated the first post since it hasn't been in a long time sweatdrop They all sound very interesting of the ones I haven't heard of before; I'll have to check them out.

@Sayer -- According to Wiki, Flight of Dragons is "very loosely based on the speculative natural history book of the same name by Peter Dickinson and the novel The Dragon and the George by Gordon R. Dickson." So I guess you can say it's based on a book xd

I knew it! xd Seemed too creative for a cartoon not to be based on a book.

(On a side note, I saw Arashi no Yoru Ni - it's my new favorite. =D heart )
