I'm back from hiatus.

And as I said in the title, what are you views of the US right to bear arms? This question was brought up when a considerably liberal(Wonder if I used this correctly. >_> Man platforms change so much I can't even follow the s**t.) classmate expressed his/her desire to abolish the right. I'm pretty on the fence.

Damn the liberals and their Red propaganda. Commie bastards. . . .

Anywho, I've nothing against private ownership of firearms and other weaponry. If you want to go buy a .37 Smith and Wessen, by all means, go right ahead--you've as much a right to protect yourself as anyone else. However, I can not begin to fathom any possible reason as to why you would need a fully-automatic machine gun with explosive armour-piercing rounds. That seems to transcend the line between personal protection and borderline terrorism.

So, I'm fine with it, but in moderation.

The thing is, although I know very well guns help you kill faster... they need an operator. Therefore, I'd say let everyone buy their guns, I suppose they have a right to their self protection.

What's scary is there might be some backwater place selling fully automatics with night scopes and as Kazemuki said, explosive bullets. >_>

Eh, that's not true, necessarily. It is going to be a lot easier and faster to walk up behind a person and snap his or her neck than it is to take out a gun, take off the safety, aim, and fire. In real life, firearms don't behave as Hollywood portrays them--a perfect example (taken from a recounting by Jack Mann, the man who devised the Ohio State Highway Patrol ground fighting regimen from the late 1990s to early 2000s):

A police officer (unknowingly) walks into a fast food restaurant in the middle of an armed robbery. At approximately twelve feet, the robber notices the officer and vice versa (about the distance from the door to the counter). The robber turns to the officer and begins discharging shotgun rounds. Likewise, the officer takes out his handgun and begins firing. Neither aimed prior to discharging their rounds, and no shots made contact. They were both relatively stationary throughout the shooting.

There's a lot more to it than just point and shoot. if one does not take the time to aim his or her sight, chances are, he or she is not going to make direct contact with the target.

Welcome back.

I consider myself fairly liberal for the most part, but I strongly support the right to bare arms, though I think it should be regulated to an extent. People should be allowed to defend themselves when they need to, but dangerous weapons can't be allowed into the hands of serial killers and whatnot.

However, I do support the right to general self defense in any situation. I almost always cite the 2nd Amendment in abortion debates to say that we all (in America) legally have the right to use lethal force in self-defense, and pro-lifers want to deny women that right. Now, let's not let this transform into an abortion debate, but I personally think that there are very few documents which are intended to be taken literally to the letter, including the US Constitution.

We need to allow ANY type of gun to be sold etc, but there needs to be some sort of database that stores who has those types of guns, and before purchase of the guns there must be tests done to ensure you are mentally stable and haven't been arrested for any reason before.

Also guns are good for gorilla warefare.

Too bad, my parental controls block the "gorilla warfare" thing. Sum-up, please?

Well, I GET the reference, of course. I just thought there was some more specific joke that I couldn't access.

The image isn't showing for me. >.<

I believe that although guns are dangerous in the wrong hands, they can also be dangerous in the right hands. I do not believe that guns should be restricticted I simply believe that only people FULLY TRAINED to use them should be sold them. Anyone that has any criminal history involving firearms should be restricted guns.
