just a quick question, how many anarchists that arent punks are in your area, and how many anarchopunks (real trying anarchopunks) are there?

just wanting to compare.

over here its about the same amount, maybe 20 anarchopunks and 20 anarchists.

Uh, I have no clue to be honest.
I don't try and find out to be honest, I just know there's maybe six or seven people here who are anarchists.
I knew one who was pretty anarchopunkish, but she moved, I myself am more a plain anarchist, although I like anarchopunk music.

For me it's mostly Anarchists, though no adults. It's mostly the youth, as most of the adults are employed in the military, it's their kids that tend to venture away from it somewhat. Though in that respect, I would say we have over a hundred, the only problem is that none of them are motivated. Maybe if I get the means, we could get the life back that the military has taken away from us by putting us as the best candidates for the military's front lines. Where there's poverty, a military recruiter will be in the schools close behind... Welcoem to the education system.

As for punks, very few, mostly self defined gothic kids and people who tend to stay in the middle. What we really need is some form of unity- maybe when I start up some sort of political program, we could get some momentum. But first, I think the first priority is to get the military out of our school. Enough of the kids are against it, we just need unity. Step by step, maybe we could bring ourselves together... We just need to establish our voice.

I think that most of the people I know are more punk than anarchist.

I don't identify as being "punk" I've been to punk shows and I'm not a big fan of loud music where I don't understand what they're trying to sing. I guess I appear to be kind of "preppy" or I dress well or whatever but a bunch of my stuff is second hand in good condition.

No punks OR anarchists in my area. I get bitched at for displaying the anarchy symbol at school, because it looks like a gang sign. confused

Just gangbangers with their hierarchies.

Lol, gangs = worship of social hierarchies and capitalist ideals.

I have no idea the number of anarchists in my area, though I'm guessing they might total several hundred active within my town's various organizations. Of those, I'd say about 2/3 are punks, the rest being aging hippies and nerdy kids (like me).

maybe like, 1 in four anarchists here aren't into punk. i know a few people that hate all of our hardcore anarchist bands, but like 1/3 of everything radical here probably involves a show.

Anarcho-punk.
And I'm in a band.

It's interesting to note the association of punks with anarchy in the popular view. There are plenty of people in the same "scene" who don't understand anarchism or don't want to be associated with it. Punk and anarchism are two different things, a cultural and philosophical sphere respectively, which happen to overlap.
I personally don't really feel a whole lot of purpose or hope behind the punk mentality without the added factor of anarchism. That isn't to say that there isn't something beneficial about people who don't give a ******** and are determined to live life their own way. Even punks who aren't anarchists tend to be extremely critical of anyone or anything that tells them what to think. So I might disagree with another punk completely about politics (or my lack of, theoretically), but chances are they aren't just repeating some crap they heard on the news.

There's a lot of anarchists in my area. Maybe a few are of the punkish persuasion, but not very many at all... there are few punks of any kind here.

Just out of curiosity, what are most people counting as "here?" Like, schools/workplaces or entire cities? Where I live is a big city that's supposedly liberal although it's mostly yuppies and also one of the most segregated cities in the nation and it's chock full O' new age hippies. Anyway, there's a lot of anarchists milling around the colleges and some homeless anarchopunk kids that chill in an empty lot near the biggest college. I'd say several hundred anarchists at least and I have no idea about the punk, the punk scene here isn't mostly centered around anarcho-punk although I always see a few of em' at shows.
