Welcome to Pirates of the Stars!

Well, the guild's been really quiet, so I wanted to make something unique! And that people would actually post on... Uh, basically, this is a roleplay where we play teens or young adults who live in a galaxy far away from our Milky Way in an unknown amount of years later. Humans have broadened their horizons, and now have many colonies on several planets in this galaxy known only as Cosmic Rain, due to the beautiful rainbows of space dust that often paint pictures between the planets in the night sky. These kids have commandeered their own small space ship, and they live and operate their "mission" there. What exactly could the mission of a group of ragtag pirates be? The truth. The elected leaders of Cosmic Rain seem to be withholding information about their past, the demise of the Milky Way Galaxy, and the future of Cosmic Rain from its citizens. And these pirates want the truth.

I'm still working on the storyline a bit - if anyone has any great ideas, feel free to PM me! I'll give you credit if I use it, don't worry! (But I'm a bit stubborn, so I can't say how far you'll get haha) The roleplay will open once we have a few members, so get on it! Heh.

Background Information

This is all subject to change right now, just so you know! But it will basically remain the same. If you have ideas, input, or see a mistake I've made, feel free to PM me! I love to talk roleplaying.

The children in the Cosmic Rain galaxy go through the same government-structured schooling system. No matter what planet you live on, the curriculum is the same. Every teacher tells their students that all humans came from one planet in the Milky Way. From there they expanded to nearby inhabitable planets. And as those populations grew, the human race began to colonize galaxies farther and farther away from the Milky Way. A long time ago, however, a great tradgedy struck. Myserious diseases, the teachers would all claim, took the lives of the populations of planet after planet. The Cosmic Rain galaxy was the only to survive, and they did so by cutting off all communication from the ten other galaxies of humans. It was a difficult decision, the government claims, but the ancestors of today's Cosmic Rain galaxy were in the right. No human has ever set foot on the dead galaxies again, for fear of reviving the plague that claimed every life it infected. The pirates are no longer so confident about this version of events. They have been taught that all no bacteria is one hundred percent effective. So why did every human die? Surely there were those immune, who would have been brought in as refugees.

The Cosmic Rain galaxy itself is impressive. There are ten planets in this system that are human inhabited, but countless others that cannot support human life. The galaxy consists of two solar systems. The first system is very large, and holds over twenty planets and various satellites (both manmade and natural) around its large star center. The other solar system has a star smaller than Earth's as its central point, but the light from this star is much more intense. Because I cannot describe every planet, I'm going to allow the people who join to create their home planet! PM it to me, please, so I can tweak it if need be. I will create at least one planet, which will be the seat of Cosmic Rain's government and the home planet of my character. If you do not wish to make a planet, just choose someone else's.

When the first human pioneers came to Cosmic Rain, they brought along many animal friends. Some of these animals are still pets and livestock similar to those of the Earth we know, but many have been set free on the planets and rapidly evolved on the strange, new environment. In creating your planet, take a moment to describe the flora and fauna. Some plants and animals may have been native to the planet, although most even partially sentient life was destroyed by the intrusion of humans onto the planet. Humans have molded the planets to suit their own needs. If there wasn't oxygen, domes were constructed for living. Not warm enough? Solar power or other alternative resources heat living areas.

Most humans live in peace. The government is a single house, with one elected representative from each planet having a seat in the council. This council decides all matters of laws, and runs the court system. The population of Cosmic Rain is growing, reaching perhaps two billion total at last estimate. It's uneven among the planets, however. Every person goes to the same school, learns the same advanced material, and gets placed in a job based on their skills. The assigned job will be done by the person for all their life, unless they request a change which may or may not be approved. Males and females are generally equal, and there is no conflict among races. Political conflict, however, is another story. The pirates we roleplay are only one example of groups who protest some of the council's decisions - although we do it a bit more boldly.

Planets of Cosmic Rain

Aerabi: Capitol of Cosmic Rain

Aerabi is the capital city of the Cosmic Rain galaxy. It was the first planet to be inhabited by a colony of humans because of its easily navigable terrain. Aerabi is most noted for its huge plains and the lack of any liquid water. The vast plataues of the planet are covered in a strange mist that hangs thickly above the ground. The mists come up to the knees of an adult, but the air above that is clean. There is oxygen on the planet, but the vast majority of the atmosphere is full of strange gasses that neither harm nor help humans. Humans can breath the atmosphere, but prolonged time out in the open atmosphere eventually causes lack of oxygen simply due to the fact that there is not as much oxygen - the atmosphere is full of other gasses. Most homes have machines that constantly break down some gasses into oxygen and other gasses.

There were not any native organisms on Aerabi when humans arrived. The planet had a unique landscape, but seemed barren. The humans had to import water for a while, but they now have facilities that fuse water out of other atoms. The technology of Aerabi is amazing, and run mostly on solar power. Aerabi orbits rather closely to the larger star. The heat from this star is not too intense, although Aerabi has generally hot temperatures, little humidity, and no seasons. The humans have set up various towns and cities. Only half the planet is populated - that side is generally closest to the sun. The far side of Aerabi never sees the light of day due the planet's rotation and revolution pattern. The side closest to the sun had only daylight, but the edges get a day/night pattern with long days of over thirty hours, depending on where it is in the revolution, and shorter nights.

Rules

~Try to keep OOC speaking to a minimum, and use some sort of brackets/braces/parentheses.

~Let's try to keep things PG-13. Absolutely nothing more than kissing, and I'd appreciate it if cuss words were kept to situations like, say, the space ship exploding. That would qualify.

~Violence is okay with me, just not excessive. So, if you chopped his head off, fine - just don't tell me how far his esophagus unraveled. No need for nightmares!

~Please PM me your profile. That's not so I can accept or decline your joining, that's so I can put all the profiles in one post. You're going to learn very quickly that I'm somewhat of a neat freak - unless you're talking about my bedroom. My bedroom is "organized", haha.

~In the profile, I'm okay if you use pictures for your appearance, however I'm going to link to the pictures so as not to take up a ton of room, and I'd like if you also gave a worded discription.

~On the subject of pictures - I will NOT let you steal the artwork of others! Artists work very hard on their pictures, and you cannot just find the picture online and decide that's what you look like. If you use a picture, it must be either your picture, or you have express permission from the artist to be able to use it. As in you personally talked to the artist, not "Well, it was on Photobucket, so anyone can take it!" Gah! ...momentary freak-out over. I'm really serious about this, since I myself am an artist.

~Try to be active every day. There's nothing worse than having to wait for somone's character to respond to you while everyone else is having fun elsewhere.

~If you know you're going to be gone for a while, please let us know! We can roleplay around you for a bit, or drag your character with us.

~Rules are subject to change! I'll announce it if I do, though.

Characters:

Username: Saeko-san
Name: Saori
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Overall Appearance: Saori immediately strikes you as a tom-boy. She's just over five foot tall, and she walks with a confident air that has grown as she gets older. Saori often has bruises or cuts along her arms that have bandages hastily applied, but her warming smile draws attention away from them.
Clothes: Saori is most often found in a casual, light-colored T-shirt and baggy pants. She ties a sweatshirt around her waist, in case she needs it, and puts a bandana over her hair.
Hair: Saori has chestnut brown hair which is cut unevenly to her shoulders. Her orange bandana is tied over the top of her hair and keeps it out of her face.
Eyes: Saori has hazel eyes. Although they are rather homely, they often reflect her bold spirit as she gazes at the stars.
Personality: Saori is loud, bold and often rash. She has a strong temper, although it is not easily ignited. Saori is very proud of her life and her friends, and she would risk almost anything to keep them safe. She is quite a bit of a tom-boy, enjoying sports and contests as much as anyone else on the ship.
From Planet: Aerabi
History: Saori's parents were kind people, but they had undying loyalty in the government. From a very young age, Saori's teachers all tried to repress her creativity, which she detested. At home, Saori helped her father out with his job as a mechanic and her love of machinery was born. When she turned sixteen, Saori couldn't stand her life on Arabi any longer. She helped a group of rebellious kids hijack a space ship and got off the planet. The other kids, all reckless boys, were caught on another planet trying to steal some expensive techonolgy. Saori, possessing a sense of intelligence, stayed on the ship and was able to get away in the chaos. This ship later became the base of the pirates.
Skills: Saori has picked up a detailed knowledge of most machines and electronics from helping her father out, so she is the ship's mechanic. Saori also tends to have an infectious confidence, and can be very charismatic at times.
Weaknesses: Saori is very stubborn, and often refuses to listen to reason. She often buckles under intense pressure, needing someone else to bring her back to her senses.
Other: Nothing at the moment!

Ships

I'm going to work on this slowly, but I thought it'd help for people thinking about joining. (If there are any of you...) I've got a fever though, so if I say something really stupid I'll fix it later and laugh at myself. Anyway, the ship below is the ship Saori commandeered from a group of idiot teens... basically. If you want to start your own ship, that's okay with me. But right off the bat that might be hard - we wouldn't be interacting much if we were in different ships. Also, all aspects of the ship are subject to change. Positions aren't permananet, and if you want to try to overthrow whatever leader the ship has, go ahead and mutiny. I'll update this page if there are any changes.

Home (As referred to by inhabitants)

Ship's Information:
Leader of ship: None - anarchy/democracy
Heirarchy: None intentionally, though newer members may be looked down upon for a while.
Type: Cargo, meant to carry large crates long distances
Size: Relatively small for a cargo ship, it is compact - but three floors tall - and has a rather oval shape. The control room is roughly ten feet by fifteen feet, with a rounded front.
Protection: Not a fighting ship, but it has a few weapons and sheilds installed as a defense against bandits and pirates. (Ironic, no?) These are mainly automatic, although the pilot can disable them.
Reliability: Very low. The ship is already old, and being used for purposes it wasn't meant to. The mechanic is constantly at work fixing it. Some new, shiny parts have taken the place of old ones couldn't be fixed.
Living Quarters: The wide, bottom floor of the ship has been converted from crate storage to large bedroom. Several beds line the walls on either side of the room.
Positions on ship:
Pilot: N/A
Controls Operator:
Mechanic: Saori
Cook:
Doctor:
Grunt Chores:
(Come up with any others that suit your character!)
