Is it an unspoken rule that consevatives can't be gay? I'm sure 99.9% of conservatives and republicans are Christian, who usually frown apon homosexuality, but still....is it allowed?
If not I might feel the need to leave this fabulous guild emo

You know what they say - politics make strange bedfellows.
Gayness is liberal. But, because a person is nutty in one area does not mean he is required to be nutty in all. Tammy Bruce is a gay talk show host who is conservative in some of her views, such as gun rights and capital punishment. Some atheists are conservative. And some Christians, who believe they know the will of God, are loony lefties.
I'm neither captain nor crew here, but I'm not worried about gays being members. Politically, conservative gays are part of our representation in the polling booth.

I think that you are what you are, and if someone is gay and also agrees with most of the other Conservative ideals and identify themselves as a Conservative, then they are just a Conservative that happens to be gay. Many gay people probably identify themselves as being liberal because they feel liberals are more accepting of their lifestyle but may not necessarily agree with any of the other viewpoints.
I personally don't agree with the gay lifestyle but it is not my place to criticize as it is none of my business, and also I can not criticize anyone for something they have no control over. A lot of the time homosexuality is determined by genetics (sometimes in mostly in the case of lesbians I think it could be an actual choice) and you have no control over it...it is something you are born with.
I'm straight, but if I were gay I KNOW I would still be a Conservative because, well...liberals are whiny anti-war granola-eating socialist pinko-commie-loving hippies and they piss me off.
So, please don't go! biggrin

Bellbird You know what they say - politics make strange bedfellows. Gayness is liberal. But, because a person is nutty in one area does not mean he is required to be nutty in all. Politically, conservative gays are part of our representation in the polling booth. *Descends from the heavens* I AM CREW! *cuts rope dangling him from the rafters* Alrighty. I am semi-religious at best. I do believe that homosexuality is a sin (I still have gay friends), but it is no worse than the several thousand sins I commit on a daily basis (including collecting most of the 7 deadly sins and violating several of the Commandments). I believe that people should be able to see whoever they want to see( my major divergence with religious conservatives). We won't know what God thinks of our behavior until we see the big man himself. In closing, I would like to invite you to stay. Conservatism like any political movement is a pretty big umbrella and a few difference should not encourage someone to ignore the similarities...I hope that was coherent.
