North Hackettsville High School RPG

This is a High School RPG set in the fictional town of North Hackettsville, South Dakota based during the 2006-2007 School year.

This game is directly related to the New Adventures of Captain N, but there is no Videoland, and no Captain N. It's just a seemingly normal innocuous town in the Midwest, and all the players are High School students, doing what High Schoolers do. Falling in love, having fights, going bowling on Saturday night or taking a weekend trip to the mountains to get away for a while. It is all there for players to relive. Or reinvent.

Game Details:

A New Thread will be made by me about every week or so (or more if requested). All Threads for this game will have the prefix of [NHHS]. I will also include the day of school. My opening post will give you all the details of what is going on. How it plays out is up to each of you.

When things have come to a nice conclusion, I will lock the thread, and everyone can move on.

Applying to play:

Applying is very easy. Come up with a name for you teen (If you don't already have one) and reply to this post with their name, and their background. Make sure the background is congruous with the History of North Hackettsville.

I would like everyone who is playing to make a picture of your teen using that handy dandy Dream Avatar Tool we've been using in the guild. It makes it look mush nicer when you reply, talking as your teen with the picture right there. I guess its not required, but I would like to see it.

Everyone is free to make a teen to play that is part of the guild. It takes all types to make a high school. I am not picky.

The History of North Hackettsville:

North Hackettsville was Incorporated as a town in 1979, a year after the Trance Microelectronics Firm opened up its lead Research and Development facility there. Dozens of the top minds in the computer industry flocked to North Hackettsville and settled down and started families.

Today, virtually everyone works for Trance Microelectronics in town. The facility is top secret, working on a wide variety of computer and electrical advances. They are a government subcontractor as well.

The town is barely a town, consisting of the minimum population to be called as such. As an Oddity, there is no Hackettsville or South Hackettsville, only North.

North Hackettsville High School is the home of the Fighting Lions. The School colors are Red and Yellow. There is a wide variety of after school programs to keep kids busy. Football, Soccer, Track, Crosscountry, Baseball, Cheerleading, Chess Club, Robotics Team and Computer Teams, along with any other team or club you can think of.

The School is considered one of the best in the nation, and virtually every student does very well kin their studies.

There is a wooded lake, with picnic and camping grounds. The town isn't very touristy, so usually local kids use it as a hangout in the summer or go ice skating in the winter.

Main street is just that, the one street in town with a General Store, Pharmacy, doctor's office, Post Office, all the essentials. There is a 24 hour Diner. No major fast food chains or stores. There are 2 playgrounds also.

That is the core essential information for now. Check back if you're not sure about something!

Ready? Play!

If you're ready, go ahead and post your teen's info on this thread!

NPC: Ryan Michaels

User Image

Age: 18

Interests: Girls, Sports, Video Games, Usually in that order. He has a knack for programming, but hates to actually do it.

Personality: Usually Smug, sarcastic and overbearing at times. Ryan hold a fierce rivalry with other guys for the affections of the girls in school. He feels dwarfed in every way by Riley, and often tries outrageous stunts tio prove he is better. He means well usually, but still acts like a classic jock most of the time to underclassmen.

History:

Ryan has lived in North Hackettsville for 12 years now with his father and little brother. He quickly became friends with Riley Donaldson. They were inseperable for a good many years, right up until High School. After Riley was picked for frist string quarterback in the JV team, Ryan began to push himself to become better than Riley, turning their friendship into a friendly rivalry. They still can be seen talking and laughing, but there is often many contests to prove who is better, and Riley almost always wins.

When Mackenzie Buffington moved into town, young Ryan developed an instant crush for her. To this day she remains his favorite prey, hoping someday she will see how he feels about her.

When he's not chasing after Mack or trying to beat Riley in something, he can usually be found either hanging with Jamie Madrox and the Track Team, or chasing the Cheerleaders, hoping to score a date (and often succeeding.) He is considered one of the more popular kids in school, but never moreso than Riley or Mackenzie.

PC: Makenzie Buffington
User Image

Age: 17

Interests: Video Games, her friends, boys. Is a popular cheerleader, but hates it secretly. Prefers to hang out with her friends after school to talk about, or play video games.

Personality: To the entire school, Mac is pretty and fun, but kinda dumb. Her grades are great, but she seems to space out a lot. In actuality, Mac can't stand the tediousness of her small town, and is in fact highly aware of everything she does. Mostly because she can get away with more of people believe she's a total ditz.

History: Mac has been in North Hackettsville for about 13 years. She is the youngest of three children, her two older brothers have long since moved out. Her parents are older and treat her more like a grandchild. Due to her older brother's influences, Mac has an insatiable need for all things Nintendo - from Gameboy to the Wii. Due to her overwhelming popularity, she must keep this love of video games to herself, only allowing her true friends in on her 'guilty pleasure'.

Her best friends are Elise Waltham and Jamie Madrox - Jamie since primary school, Elise since Junior High. She's been dating Riley Donaldson for the last three years, and is sort of worried about him leaving for college without her. 'Hollywood', Tony and Screech fill out her little group.

Being popular has it's downsides, like cheerleading. Dating the quarterback, it became a 'must' for her to join the squad. She hadn't realized she would become captain. Nor had she known that some of her less 'popular' friends may get teased just for saying hello to her in the halls. So for their sakes she pretends to ignore them during school hours - Everyone but Jamie (whose in the circle) and Elise (simply because she refuses to leave her behind).

PC: Elise Waltham
User Image

Age: 17

Interests: Video games, books, and academics. Elise is a pretty big nerd, and she's very smart, if a little lacking in social skills as a result.

Personality: Elise is a wallflower, one of those people that blends in with a crowd so well that most people don't even notice her. Most people know her as "that girl that hangs around with Mackenzie," or "the smart girl in my math class," and she likes to keep to herself. Despite this, her friends know that underneath her shy, reserved exterior is a genuinely nice, eager-to-please girl who is only slightly less shy than her outward personality belies. When she gets stressed out or worried, her voice tends to rise in pitch, and she talks a lot more than she normally does. Her friends are, of course, used to this by now.

History: Elise's parents are both wealthy, intelligent scientists, and for the first twelve years of Elise's life, lived and worked near Washington, D.C. Around the time of Elise's twelfth birthday, her parents came home from a meeting and announced that the three of them would be moving to a small town in South Dakota, where both the Walthams had been contracted to do work for Trance Microelectronics, in their Governmental division. A month later, Elise was settling into their new house and doing her best to fit in with the small town kids of her new home.

She didn't make many friends, and it was only when she was assigned a paired project with a popular girl named Mackenzie Buffington that she was forced to come out of her shell just a little bit. The two girls bonded over video games and schoolwork, and a fast and lasting friendship was born. Mackenzie and Elise have remained best friends, even though they run in completely different social circles -- though Mackenzie does her best to pull Elise into the popular crowd, mostly against Elise's will. Elise knows that Mackenzie means well, though, and tries as hard as she can to fit in. She has no trouble fitting in with the rest of her friends, however, though she sometimes wonders just who and what drew them together and made them bond so quickly despite their radically different personalities.

Her parents are hardly ever home, and when they are they tend to view Elise with a detached sort of pride, as if they're happy with the intelligent, clever girl they've raised, but don't really know how to show their affection. They've bought her every video game system she's ever shown interest in, which has led her to get very, very good at gaming. She likes strategy games and RPGs the best, however, and has a huge soft spot for anything Zelda.

Despite the fact that Elise's family is quite wealthy, Elise doesn't tend to throw her relative wealth around. She's very generous with those she considers friends, and her house is one of the default hangouts, only because her parents are hardly ever home and they have a lot of electronics and gadgets that everyone loves to play with.

Elise excels academically in most subjects, though math and science are her best. She tutors in her spare time.

PC: Serj Lambert

User Image

Age: 17

Interests: Music, video games, comedy. Most people say he should join the music groups of the school, but he doesn't want to because they tell him what to play.

Personality: Serj is a music nerd. If he's not playing music he's either talking about it or writing on music sheets. He plays many different instruments like the piano, violin, saxaphone, and the guitar and can usually be seen carrying around his accustic guitar. He's also known as the "class clown" as he likes to pull small pranks and make jokes while in class. He can usually be found in the band room playing the piano (He doesn't have one at home) and usually playing music from various video games or piano works from other famous artists. His grades in his music classes are amazing, but his other classes like math and science are pretty low.

History: Serj is new to the area, only being in North Hackettsville for less then a year. His parents moved from a small town called Oxford and he is an only child. His parents let him chose one extra thing to do while in school, he chose music and he's been playing different instruments since he was 6 years old. They moved into a house near Main street, both his parents working for Trance Microelectronics now though he doesn't know it.

This is his first year at the high school, so he barely has any friends. That doesn't stop him from talking with everyone, despite "popularity" and stuff like that. After school he's usually at the band room playing music or at home playing either music or video games. He was rather good at fighting and shooter games, but also played RPGs mainly for their music.

PC: Robert "Hollywood" Haskins
User Image

Age: 17

Interests: Surfing, Video Games, Skateboarding. School and his job come in a VERY distant 4th.

Personality: Hollywood is pretty much a delinquent. Angry and surly most of the time, Bobby wants nothing more than to just go home. He also projects the image of the uncaring street punk, but he's actually quite protective of his friends, most of which don't really need his protection. He's often found towards the back of any room or group of people, either lurking, and following quietly on his skateboard, occaisionally letting rip with some self-deprecating or friendly mocking comment. Bobby specializes in Racing and Alternative Sports video games, and when he really gets into the game, he enters a mode of almost pure focus, shutting out everything else around him. He won't admit it, but this is the closest to the pure bliss of surfing he's come in at least 2 years.

History: Born and Raised in Long Beach California, Bobby has always been a poor student. The only thing that ever mattered to him was his one passion, surfing. He was well on his way to being the next big surf sensation, having already won several surf competitions, and even out-surfing several professionals. Bobby had just been secretly approached about sponsoring, when his father, a researcher for Trance Microsystems got reassigned to North Hackettsville. Bobby protested, but the complaints of a 15 year-old slacker fell on deaf ears.
Now in North Hackettsville, Bobby wants nothing more than to just go home to Long Beach and go back to his old life, to the point of him taking his frustrations out on those around him. This landed him in detention one day, where he met Screech. Something about the Scooby-doo reject endeared itself to Bobby, and he stood up for him several days later in the cafeteria. In gratitiude, Screech introduced "Hollywood" (as the football team had named him, quite against his will) to his group of friends, and now, though he still wants to go back home, having a group of gaming nerds is better than it was without them.

Riley “King” Donaldson

User Image

Age: 18

Interests: Football, cheerleaders, skydiving, and computers. Riley plays quarterback on the high school football team because he loves the thrill of doing something that could get him killed or worse – hurt very badly. He tends to downplay his love of all computers around his jock friends to keep from feeling like a nerd, although, he secretly is one.

Personality: Riley is a redneck in lingo, a jock in perspective, and a computer nerd at heart. He plays up his “star quarterback” roll to it’s fullest in public, but gravitates to the more brainiacks when looking to socialize. He’s smart, but doesn’t like it to show around most people for fear it will ruin his image as one of the more popular kids in school.

Riley is the type who “knows no enemies.” He’s friends with everyone (or tries to be) and fights for what he believes in. His passion on justice in a world without any is a keystone to his personality.

Riley’s favorite pass time, besides football, is making people laugh. He uses his quick wit and vast knowledge of analogies to grab the slightest chuckle from his classmates and peers.

History: Riley moved to North Hackettsville 10 years ago when his father, a colonel in the USAF received orders to head an operation with Trance Microelectronics. Originally from Deensburo Georgia, Riley found himself overwhelmed by the not only the change of weather, but people in general.

Riley’s athleticism earned him a place on the High School football team as well as the hearts of many of his fellow students (of the female variety), but no one cut him to the bone like Makenzie Buffington, whom he’s been dating for the past 3 years. Riley’s attraction to Mack is strong, though he wishes she would give up video games to pursue a more valid goal for her future.

PC: Jacob (Jake) Michaels
Age: 17
Interests: Video Games, Girls, Track (shotput and discus), Chess, Reading

Personality: Shy, quiet, a little on the underconfident side, Jake plays second fiddle to his brother most of the time. He is constantly trying to live up to what his brother has established himself as, but is still trying to do it while staying out of constant contact with his overbearing brother. He throws shotput and discus so he only has to deal with a half dozen team members, and with the added bonus of respect from his brother and time in the gym. On the off season he joins the chess team, sometimes being ridiculed by his teammates, ending with him giving the excuse of "I need something to do while I wait until next season." In truth he does it to meet new people, and to enjoy different types of conversation. He may not be very good at the game, but its more about the people than pride. He often waits to get home to indulge in his other hobbies, being video games and reading. Trying to get him to read anything other than a good sci-fi book is like pulling teeth, but once in a while he does find something that does piques his interests. Due to similar interests, Jake has developed a crush on Elise, but due to his lack of confidence, he can not bring himself to persue it.

History: Having lived in North Hackettsville for 12 years, much like his brother, soon after he moved in he was enrolled in school where he met Jaime and Mac. Growing up, Jacob felt overshadowed by his brother on more occaisions than he would care to admit. His parents, when originally moving to the city got jobs at Trance Microsystems, taking a lot of time away from him and his brother. Being stuck with his overbearing brother, he quickly learned how to follow his brother's orders, in order to just keep the peace. Having steady friends growing up has helped Jacob, giving him a sense of stability, and the opportunity to vent about his brother.

PC: Aires Moran
User Image
AGE: 16
INTERESTS: The Occult; Mythology; Yugioh; Video games

Personality: Friendly, but keeps mostly to himself. He grew up in Augusta, Maine and moved here with his parents, who work at Trance Microelectronics.
He has an older sister, Amber Ray, who is outgoing, friendly and going to M.I.T. next year, his parents Alma Mater. He gets good enough in not spectacular grades in school and spends most of his time with his Game Boy. He grew interested in the occult as a child and claims he can "feel" ghosts. His parents have tried to get him to act normally but don't have the time. His sister teases him but gets freaked out when he starts talking about spirits and such. Most of the kids at school also think he's kinda weird and generally leave him alone. The only interaction he has with other students is through Yugioh games, which he is amazing at. The only person to actually beat him on a regular basis is, in fact, Makenzie Buffington. One of the few people who isn't totally freaked out by him, she is the closest friend he has in school. He gets along well with the rest of the group as well, although even they get weirded out by him on occasion.
