After watching OVA IV, and gathering from my past experiences, I was thinking on the treatment of the Nazis, especially Schro, in the anime. Now, we know most people will watch the anime then read the manga, and Schrodinger is portrayed in...well, a very cute way. Yes, he's evil, he's one of the 'baddies', but he's also drawn to be fluffy, kawaii, and meant to be adored (now, I know that last part could be debated...).
Hellsing fans are already used to all this, but think about your average American anime fan. Here is a Hitler Youth...with cat ears... and portrayed in a way that is not to be expected. Hogan's Heros aside, Nazis are usually not portrayed in such a fashion. I'm waiting to see how many people are left scratching their heads as the the OVA credits roll! xd
I was once foolishly reading HS in the cafeteria at college one day, and one lady asked me why that Hitler Youth was wearing cat ears. I stupidly replied, "Oh, that's Schrodinger; isn't he the cutest?" The look on this girl's face and of the others around me clearly said, "No, he isn't". Many, many people are still extremely sensitive to how Nazis are seen in the media, and even get offended when they are portrayed as anything but pure evil, inhuman monsters. (Haha, they are monsters in Hellsing, aren't they? XD)
~Is the world ready for Schrodinger? He has a rather large fanbase, and will soon be known by more of your average fans when OVA IV is released in America. How do you think the young generations will handle it? Is the image of the HJ even widely recognizable anymore?

The question is...is the world ready for THIS gonk Well, this is a certainly fun place to start...first off... People are blind and stupid. Nazi's aren't the masters of EVILLLLLL... They aren't the most evil people to walk the earth, HITLER was not the most evil man to walk the earth. Their have been countries and people far worse off, and under much worse rulers. Nazi Germany is only so evil because they made sure they left an impact, it's fresh in our minds, People still remember it, and that will not go away for a very long time. Now...bring this into play... American = slow, closed minded, trying to be PC, VERY stupid. No offence, this is a great country that I am proud to be in. But its also the only country where you can watch a man spill coffee on himself and then blame the waitress. Why? We're spoiled...so we become stupid...Its a spreading epidemic... So no, ALOT of americans won't except Schro, or Rip for that matter... Look at her, she's gleeful and perky and oh so cute...with that little swastika 'round her neck as she sings german and nazi anthems... XD This is one of the (many) reasons Hellsing can never be mainstream. Also, Hellsing fans have worried for ages about cons...well you know what, most people at cons are excepting...and most Hellsing cosplayers...I hate to break it to you, idiot americans, but they aren't Nazis. ( 'Cept for Good ol' Tiffany Stevens...yup...the queen b***h to spoil the name of Rip Van Winkle's everywhere with her crappy cosplay and extreme superiority complex... xP )Its reading/watching your Hellsing in public that you have to watch out for! So yeah...The thing is..people need to lighten up...and we live in a world that slowly is...VERY SLOWLY...but slowly.... (don't even ask how we got off in that direction...)(you know, as a social experiment, my boyfriend walked into the mall once and gave a nazi salute and EVERYTHING as loud as possible...and no one stared...or attacked us....I was actually disapointed nobody looked.... ^^; )Anyway, that was just a long post of....nothing... Anyway, America ain't ready for Schro, but hey, if some big controversy comes up....I'll be happy to look over and say "Yup, thats MY fandom." with big happy tears in my eyes. EITHER WAY THIS GOES....Its the people who never even read Hellsing who will be offended by the cute kitty boy....they'll think it's a buncha subliminal propaganda crap or something stupid like that. P.S. Sorry if anyone took offense to my comment about americans being stupid...but hey, I've lived in this country all my life, I know what I'm saying for the most part. sweatdrop (Plus, this is a thread 'bout America and Nazi's...Nobodies gonna take offense here! xD )

My fiend Maxi can be incredibly curious. I was rereading one of the Hellsing mangas that had Schro ( I like to reread my mangas :3) aaaaaaaaaaand she pointed to Schro."Whos that?"She asked. I had time to reply."A warrant officer nazi Cat boy from a Hitler Youth Group." She took time to respond to this surprised _o; "Thats a mouthful..."She shrugged and went on in her merry way.
It did not bother her. Frankly,ALMOST all of my friends tolerate this. Meaning the Nazis. Though some of them find it offensive. I do not understand why.
ALL NAZIS ARENT EVIL!DX And I agree Suni No they are not"MASTERS OF EVIL"
Why do people judge this way?
Because Nazis made one mistake er big mistake during WWII with the concentration camps. Therefore,everyone happens to portay them as evil.

Omg, I talked to some guy on youtube about nazi's and he says....
"I can understand being interested by Nazi uniforms aren't cool! they represent something very evil and blah blah blah"
I respond "Well hey...when the man designed these uniforms they probably wheren't thinking 'Oh hey! I'm going to make an outfit of pure evil and sh*t!'.... Nazi uniforms are no different then any other military uniform....same with anything eles..."
So yeah.
Oh, and I just thought of another example of the power of stupid americans...
Will Smith makes a comment about how Hitler didn't wake up in the morning thinking about doing the most twisted thing he could, Hitler woke up and used his own crazy logic to think he was doing good.
And when Will Smith said that....the media twists it into "OMG! WILLSMITH THINK HITLER GOOD OH NOES.!!11!"

For a while I'd been really oblivious to the fact that Nazis are actually very offensive to most people because I see them so much in Hellsing, and I'm not offended by Nazis in the least. One thing that opened my eyes was a comment in the Art Arena on a picture of mine that had Dok and Schroedinger in it. Someone told me they rated my picture a 2 because it had a swastika in it, and I was shocked as my initial reaction to it. x'D

(however, she hates bush and the new pope, and actually calls him "nazipope" now after hearing me say it once. she's convinced the end of the world will come before the end of her lifetime, and that bush and the nazipope will bring it about. She's 91 in march.) she, enrico, and anderson would get along well. whee ... which is why i don't tell her about what anime i watch, or about most anything in my life other than the basics. the results would be painful, maybe not disownment, but it would certainly involve holy water, duct tape, and a cast-iron skillet upside the head with arguing in 3 languages. i hate to say it, but on the subject of the world, it comes down to a quote from MiB. : "A person can be smart, but people? People are dumb, panicky creatures." we hate when things are different, and tend to stick only to the familiar and pleasant. humans are herd animals, when something that bothers us comes along, we tend to ignore it, and if that dosen't work, then we move away and try to pretend it's not really there. if it disturbs us enough, maybe the herd will try to scare it off, and then go back to pretending it never existed. --- from here down was originally a big long rant on america in general, the mistreatment of new immigrants by their predecessors, the horrible conditions imposed on native americans by both past and present government, the state of humanity as a whole, and some really angry commentary on why the rest of the world treats americans like the world's biggest assholes, which we kinda are. after some thought, i deleted it all and replaced it with this note. stare sorry. ---

The only reason why I like Millennium, is for the fact that they are fictional.characters, therefore it is alright to like them.
Rip Van Winkle, Schro, and everyone else never harmed anyone, they are merely characters on paper. My jewish friend knows this and doesn't hate me for it. Therefore it;s okay to like them.
Although, I get very very touchy when I see Millennium in offical nazi garb, that's why I get edgy with captain or Rip or anyone else in ceremonial outfits

True. True. True. The Nazi uniforms btoher me at times. It makes me feel ....uncomfortable I suppose. Why? The reasons above I suppose.
The world is NOT ready for Schro and all of Millenium. I dont know if it ever will be. The world and its inhabitants (meaning humans ;>_>) seem to always live by the past. Not by the present. Not by looking ahead. They remember the past and thats the way they tend to judge.
This whole forum makes me think. Philosophize.Wonder.Use my noggin so be it. Its a tough question to answer and tends to make me look and ponder about human nature...

As well as I???? yeaaah we are. make a movie like die hard or freddy vs jason and people love you, make a political story that DOESN'T immediately paint certain groups as the ultimate of blank faceless evil and they'll give you an oscar and then blacklist you like the creepy tentacled kid eating a cat with boogersauce and croutons at the lunchtable. i love my country, but we really are a bunch of romans awaiting the fall of civilization. actually, a historical point of notice, a rise in bloody and violent entertainment in a culture seems to precede the fall of many a civilization over the eons. as does a decrease in physical activity, a heavy reliance on outside sources for food, labor, and entertainment, and an increase of "low" entertainment based on stupidity and violence. *coughs* celebreality and "reality" tv*coughs* woo, tangent. im'a gonna go hide now and shut up before i ramble meself into a hole here.
