It's come up here and there whether or not we should have a afterlife type area, personally the afterlife just seems to limited to justify buying a new subforum. So then a few minutes ago while pwning bots on Burnout: Revenge (the only racing game I don't suck at other than podracers) and pondering what to do about May'a until I have the time to be active, that answer still alludes me but two things are three things are clear, she's in the way and that is hurting the RP, She can't stay 'here' because she would remain in the way, and she can't go 'there' because she might become in the way again before I am in a position to do much about it. So where is there to go if you can't be here and you can't be there? Elsewhere

It's like the afterlife but only sorta, in crazy old mystic terms Elsewhere is 'the place where things go, when they aren't somewhere else', probably closer to limbo than the afterlife, and not only the dead go there, nor do only the living return.

There's stuff to be discussed before I go buy the forum, like how this extra zone effects the transparent power structure we've built, what it does to the planar view of it all, what happens when someone or something comes back from Elsewhere.

Fun stuff.
I was reading about such a place. It was more grounded in the middle of life and death. The place was a city called Manifest. It's the last bastion before crossing over to the underworld (or where ever it is you go when you die). This is a city where the living and the dead can walk among each other. The dead not only become visible but in Manifest they can tangibly effect the world around them. In fact walking down the street you could not tell the difference between one who was living or dead. The dead are drawn to this city. They have a deep urge to cross over to the other side. Only there will to accomplish unfinished bushinesses do they stay in Manifest. This city is often a place in which people travel to after a loved one has died. Often the soul will wait for there family there so they can say there last goodbyes.

Well, this wouldn't really be a place you could 'go', more one you sort of 'arrive' unexpectedly (unless you died).

So then we just need to settle some loose ends, to start with, what is Elsewhere like? I imagine it as a fairly large island city, past the beach line there is nothing but water. The island is very level and covered with a city built primarily of sandstone, almost seeming to have been carved right from the island long ago. Most of the city is housing and meeting areas, and nobody really seems to work, everything is just provided unexplainedly. The weather is really nice, rarely does it go above 90 degrees, and just as rarely will it get colder than 60 save for night time, sometimes it rains, sometimes it storms, but the storms never get all that bad and soon enough the weather will be nice again. There are no animals, no pets, no birds, no fish or vermin and so on. Really it's quite dull, but you could live there forever. Only a small portion of the population ends up living in Elsewhere for long as most people don't have anything preventing them from passing on to the afterlife.

I'd like to work in an aspect where like, there was a group of gods watching over the world originally, and it was them who created the practiced magics (non-card), but they got pushed out when the Jokers arrived, these gods now live in Elsewhere

I'm not really sure how the part about people who're just visiting the planes after, how they get back and such, but it should have something to do with the gods I think, since it would probably have been those gods that brought them to Elsewhere knowing this person would be needed in the future but might not get to the future if left to live normally, or something like that.
so what's your view on Elsewhere?

Now that you mention it this place sounds a lot like Purgatory or Gehenna.

Once you go to the afterlife there's no coming back, so there has to be a place where you go before the afterlife to make sure you're done with it all. The place I described is designed to be somewhere you can stay if you need to but probably wont stay if you don't have to.

Ironically while I was in the shower I had a thought about this and the jokers, and a lot of stuff fell into place. So here's my current thought-scene. The first Joker to arrive on the planet that we should name still (and I have no ideas for a name) was, *drumroll* the comet; massively powerful even compared to the other jokers, it smashed onto this plane like a flaming airplane into the side of a hill, that hill was the planet, it's this first Joker's immense might that causes the no-magic zone, the Lucinite's abilities, and imbued the life of the planet with the power to access the cards. A long long time later some basic civilizations had formed and the gods had come into being when three more Jokers found the hole into this plane left by the first, things didn't go well between them and the gods, resulting in a war. The mortal civilizations were still in their infancy at the time so there's basically no cultural record of it.

In the end the jokers won and the gods fell back to Elsewhere in defeat, but the Jokers hadn't been totally unhurt, the gods had managed to seal one of them deep within the planet, later the Teroa discovered the prison and built a shrine around it.

OR

One of the three jokers was peaceful to the gods, still the gods fell but as punishment for betraying them the victorious two Jokers sealed the third away, and from there the same thing happened.

Now all that remains of the base plain of this world to say the gods were ever there is the practiced magics, the monsters that roam the wild, And very subtle influences from the gods in Elsewhere. The two Jokers spend their time manipulating people to make the world more interesting for them. Although the first Joker remains a present and powerful force in the world it's been in a sort of stasis since it arrived, and the two jokers would rather not revive it.

That was a very enjoyable history of the world description.
I could imagining the whole scenario vividly.
Shower epiphany are the best!
This back ground would make a web comic all the better.

Well I suppose I should get to work coming up with ideas for joker names.
