ok, let me clear that one up. NO! That was all the doing of the american censors. The last season was never even released here in america because they would have had to cut to many wholes out of it. THe starlights were origonaly women all the time, not just in their sailor form... minako (lita) was origonally a chain smoker.... the camerican censors changed the whole thing! Naoko wrote the series to show teenagers that there are alot of dirfrent ways to be, and a lot of ways to handle problems and things.. but leave it the american censors to screw that message up and try and turn it into kiddie bull-s**t...!

Ok, sorry about that... I've just been fixing the links. I moved the photo's into an album (Oops!) In japan, in the origonal manga and even in the unedited Japanese version, Michiru and Haruka were never cousins. they were in fact lovers. The anime was intended to show young women comming of age that it was ok to be a lesbian or if you had a problem such as smoking or there were other things that got cut in pre-production. One of the girls was bi, another straight.. she had at least one referance to most all of the sterotypes in these hero's. it was a good message untill dic bought the rights and turned it into a watered down kidie cartoon. The american censors were outraged that they would try and promote lesbianism on television to children. What they failed to grasp was that it was never intended to be a childrens show. It was meant for young adults.
