!JUEGO NUMERO UNO!

Alrighty. The first game that we're going to take a look at is a great party mod for the popular first-person shooter Half-Life. If you don't have Half-Life, BUY IT. It's too fantastic an experience and gateway to innovative media to pass up; true gaming history is scripted in this older FPS.

You can download Steam, the program you use to download Half-Life and games like it, from this website:
Valve Software

The game is $9.95 in US currency. It's a STEAL. Get it, dudes.

Installation
Okay, now on to the mod. Supposing you now own Half-Life (it's a PC game - sorry Mac/non-bootcamp users), visit the URL here---> Mod Database Page and you'll find yourself at the homepage for...a Resident Evil Game?

That's right - one of the greatest facets of modding is the possibility for game creation while using a game engine that allows you to import/create newer models and therefore new storylines. Resident Evil: Cold Blood strays away from almost everything you see in Half-Life (aside from generic textures and a set of vending machines) to create a sickeningly fun multiplayer experience. Feel free to use the tab system on the page to browse news, downloads, images and more. It may look pretty basic, but trust me: you're in for a doozy.

Click the download tab. You're gonna want to get the Beta 2 version (not the FGD)...so click again and follow the on-screen instructions to begin downloading. Note: you CAN sign up for ModDB if you want, their links are always pretty reliable.

Once the file has made it to your computer, run the installer. Almost right away, you'll be prompted by a popup screen that'll ask you where you want the files to be installed. If you've installed Steam the way I did, you're gonna want C://Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/Half-Life. If not, locate Steam and put it in the directory with the same name, wherever the actual STEAM folder is on your hard drive. Once installed, enjoy!

Playing
When you actually open the game file, you'll see a nice little game screen with several options before you. Something like "Start New Game" should not be your first choice, unlike the usual game-start routine we all follow. No, instead you're going to want to get out your rosary and pray that "Join Game" will present actual servers to play on. Usually, there are more than 2...

This is where the game falters. Like many mods, there are few players on at a time. That's why I'm spreading the word to you. Let's make this thing popular!

Let's say you get a server (you probably can...). You'll be placed in a random map, with story-based team play and over 6 playable characters.

THIS is why I love the game. I'd classify it as a Specialized-Team-Based FPS mission generator that is filled with zombies. You play through an array of maps, killing, exploring and collecting until you escape your awaiting fate. Sometimes, certain characters are necessary because they have a screwdriver or a PDA in their arsenal. Some don't come with flashlights or even guns. Some run slowly - some are just too fat too squeeze in certain gaps. It's ALL about teamwork, and I love every second of it.

The FPS action is nice, but so is the fact that it's not the only thing at play here. The puzzles characters must face are as vast as they are challenging, and can even be a little humorous at times, depending on your fellow players' moods and temperaments.

All in all, this game is a GREAT diversion, and will have you, under the right circumstances, checking your watch in surprise after you've wasted the last 4 hours blowing the heads off hordes of undead.

If anyone gets the game, post here. If we can get 3, maybe 4 of us playing, we can arrange for online playtime as a group, under a server I'd create. Also, post if you have the game and Vista - I have a fix that will get this thing working for you.

I'm very new to Steam. I've had a copy of good ol' Half-Life sitting among my games for a while, but never played it much. Just now got my account all set up. I didn't realize I was going to get a bunch of free stuff just for having some old Valve game. I'll finally be able to play Counter-Strike!

I'll definately check out the mod, and detail my thoughts here.

OK then. I played today, and I think I should have no problem supporting like...8-ish people on a server of my own. It was pretty fun, actually.

Keep me posted.

The game's not working for me.

Every time I try to make a new room, I get a few bursts of sound after loading, then it closes.

I'll try to fix it, but I'm not sure what the problem is.

Oh.

Compatability mode. Duh. Should have known.

I tried it, and it seems alright, though the inability to use a flashlight and a one-handed gun/melee weapon is maddening, considering how pervasive darkness is.

I'd definately play if you get together a group.

When you say Gaian, I look at this.

!JUEGO NUMERO DOS!

Like melodramatic anime? Ever play Ragnarok Online but wish it was just a tad easier? Bored? Retarded?

Our next game runs off of most if not all of the above principles. But is ******** FANTASTIC.

Lunia is a free action MMORPG. Yes, an ARPG online. Better yet, it has a "story", several quests, a killer PvP and a cool 3D feel. And as all you know, I'm a sucker for innovation, so this one made me drool a little bit. Let's go on, shall we?

Installation
SUPER-SIMPLE, which I like. First, make your way over to Lunia's Webpage and go left, where a free "membership login" section appears. Here you can register an account, which you need before you can install and play the game. Once done (it takes like 10 minutes), install the game! Seriously, it's VERY simple. I think it takes like 2 hours or something, but whatever. Also, it will "patch" every time you play but there aren't many times when the game updates so the most yo'll be delayed from playtime is one click.

Playing
Enter in your account details once the game gets going. Wait...wait what the ******** IS THAT SONG PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND!?!?! AAAGHGHHHHHHHHHH!!!

That sums up my feelings about both the english translation and...odd...qualities about the game. Whatever. Translation always pisses me off unless its absolutely perfect, but I can deal.

this first thing you do is chose a character model. There's Sieg, a knight, Ein, a healer, Dainn, a wizard, and Tia, a thief. Each has their own set of moves and while at first I was peeved by the very small selection of characters, they do that so they can make each one different, extensive, and REALLY good. After that, you make a name and whatnot - then you select a "Square". They're all the same really, but each version is hosted by a different server to reduce lag. Picking a SMOOTH running server is best. I always play on server 4. And, when you get to the square you can do a number of things, but I believe the first thing you'll be prompted to do is "enter stage", which will warp you to the first part of the game.

The game's storyline is alright, actually...there are enough twists and turns to keep me happy, but I am miffed about the fact that they sort of jump into a universe without explaining key terms and people very well. I think its the english barrier but whatever.

Quests, Items, Fights - these are all abundant and I have to say I love the WoW feel of this game. Button-combo attacks work really well and I can tell a lot of smart coding went into this game. I'll be playing for a while for sure!

So, like before, reply and let me know if you've downloaded this little gem. Let's play!
