Sorry I was snotty in my last post...really...that's not like me...but one of my posts was deleted with no explanation and now I'm on a new drug...actually new for me but old in the sense of drugs, Perphenazine (4mg/night) has anyone else taken this? any advice? It didn't help me sleep last night but I found it hard to wake up today.
I'm doing well, I think...even starting a new book (I write a lot but am not yet published) about mental illness - drugs - how society and those without Mental illness see us and hope to change some old stereotypes...
Right now I'm feeling "up" but could be down tomorrow. I never know, just deal with what life hands me.
I hope the silence from members here doesn't mean you're all down or hurting...if you are, please find a way out, the one that suits you best!
I like to laugh, hard to be depressed when happy and smiling, but I'm really pissed off at having to be on a new med...I'd hoped to go it without one, guess I was over-confident!
Just hoping for support and help as you can do it...if you can.
Is anyone still there or is this really a DEAD-THREAD? sweatdrop

I have ever heard of that med. What is it for? Sleeping pill or is it an anti-depressant? I know i always hate trying out a new medication. I just feel like, they work for a ltitle while, and then 6 or more months down the road, it just seems to kinda...stop. Well, I guess they always make me stable, but nothing more. I don't know, maybe i'm expecting way to much out of medication.

Perphenazine is an anti-psychotic used in Bi-Polar people to help stop the roller coaster of mood swings!
It didn't work for me...so now I'm back on Risperidone - another anti-psychotic that works better for me but pushes up my blood sugars.
Meds don't usually keep working for me either, I always have to tweak the dose every few months. Sometimes I think I'm better off them but other times they really help, so I'll keep taking them, as long as they work.
At least these pills are tiny ones and I can take them without food!

Ahh, well I know I take Seroquel to help me sleep, but it's an anti-psychotic,. As long as these meds aren't making you drowsy, or make you lose sleep, I would stay on them for now. I stay on my Effexor because i'm sick of changing meds. I have taken zoloft, two separate times, prozac, trazodone and i swear there is another one that i'm forgetting.

I've taken so many pills in my life that I lost count now! I was on Seroquel for a while though, also for sleep, then for mood management, the zombie effects weren't felt until I got off them, I was taking 300mg a day/night off them I felt like I'd finally woken up again...it was an incredible difference. I hope you're not taking it in high doses! But, all pills work differently in everyone.

I have been chronically insomnic since birth it seems! UGH! The Seroquel helped at first but then I got used to them. Now my Dr. has me on Clonazepam for sleep and that was another I got used to, but it really helps the restless leg syndrome so I still take it...what DOES help me sleep is Gravol (Dimenhydramine) I take 2 just as I'm going to bed. They're for motion sickness but really make me drowsy and I had no problems with them interfering with other meds...I get a 100 count bottle for about $5 or less (generic brand) That's the ingredient in most OTC sleeping pills - ask your Dr. of course before adding them but they just might help...they do have a "hang-over effect" but that wears off quickly, I've found. Worth looking into at least! Even just for short term, not sleeping can be very destructive to mood changes etc.

I have taken Gravol before, but it just doesn't work for me anymore. I tried sleeping one night with just taking a benadryl, and i'm not sure if i just couldnt sleep cause i was trying too hard, or i just simply couldnt. i just don't not want to take my sleeping meds and not sleep at all, because i wont beable to function properly at work and such.

I know of a weird Chinese medicinal sleep aid...you're going to laugh...it is said the smell of chopped onions, preferably the red/purple ones will induce sleep...I tried it once, a little zip-lock baggy of them...I did feel drowsy but it didn't make me crash out...maybe I was supposed to sniff them longer, not sure...but that's the most "out there" sleep aid I've ever heard of - give it a try, maybe it'll work for you, and no side-effects or hang-over feelings!

hm, I don't have any prescribed sleep aids since I'm off the Zoloft for at least the summer, but I do make teas from Valerian root or Chamomile from time to time. If you try it, be careful. It can be strong enough to knock you on your a** for up to fifteen hours. whee A couple teaspoons in a cup of hot water should be enough.
