I have read many stories and many comments that say "SO&SO BAND SAVED MY LIFE!" if such is the case that people will be reached out through music more than an actual sermon or talk what does it mean for you?
Example, what song or band were you listening to that you all of the sudden felt like there was something intended more for you and maybe even helped reach someone closer to God?
What defines Christian music to you? The mellow melody, the details of God or how his word is reaching us through his ways? Or maybe is it the same message but with the words more appealing to your culture tastes, the tune a little more up beat and something you could listen to over and over without being bored, something you would recommend to a friend, perhaps?

My Mom and younger sister don't agree with my thrash/screamo/rock Christian music, as in another opposite insight they listen to the more mellow and somewhat hippy-ish (No offence) tune with the details of Christ coming down to save us all.
Whereas that drives me up the wall in some ways since it makes me sleepy, half the time the words are repeated over and over if not by the same quotes then something implying to them.
Believe you me I have nothing against music genres nor the classic Christian hyms but when is it TOO MUCH to label something Christian or NonChristian.
Personally, Christian music needs no name of genre but that as long as it is getting God's word out there through the actual meanings and scriptures from the Bible I have no right to disagree, honestly what do you think would drive one closer to the Lord? In Psalms it is written that we should make a joyful noise unto the Lord, but nowadays what is a joyful noise to us?
What is Christian music and how do you see and hear it as? Examples would be appreciated for a better look into one's mind.

Let me clarify that I am in NO WAY flaming or doubting anything with music or my faith, but rather I am tallying the similarities each of us have on this subject.
Oh and yes, I do listen to FlyLeaf, Anberlin, UnderOath and Hawk Nelson to those who were curious at where I am coming from exactly.

I stand (or sit) here as a devoted Christian and musician. and i completely agree with you. I listen to a wide scope of Christian music, one of my favourites being Day of Fire, a rather heavy rock Christian band, but regardless of what their music is, the underlying messages of Gods Love within the lyrics are still powerful. that in mind, i am still into hillsong and the music all their variants bring out. im partof a Christian youth band and the songs we play are of a wide range- our worship pastor writes his own music also, and they range from soft worship to heavy rock praise.
Music can enable people to feel the presence of God more deeply, worship time has been very emotional for me many many times. But I feel more people should be open to branching away from those mellow songs, and considerthe messages behind the contemporary christian artists. My mum isnt Christian, but she loves the music, just little ways you can bring the Lord into your home. My mum sings along with all the music I play around the house even though she doesnt agree with them!
But there my take on music
God Bless

Funny enought, and please don't anybody take this as a sign that he's satanic or that he influenced me, Marilyn Manson saved my life. i was depressed angry suicidal and angst-ridden, Manson seemed to sum up these feelings and gave me a way of dealing, then there was Zao and Demon Hunter who gave me Christian metal which gave me something to move into, and then there were bands like Epica and Manowar that presented a whole new perspective i had yet to consider up until that point.

Marilyn Manson is Satanic. Anton LaVey made him an honorary reverend of the Church of Satan.
In any case: the only music that has really changed my life was Liszt's Liebesträume. I heard it when I was about three or four, and since then, my love of music has only grown. It's the whole reason I started laerning the piano.

Ok fair enough but an honorary member of the church of satan is about as credible as a guy with an honorary degree. he's not a practicing reverend (unless you count his music as practice)

Hey, honorary membership is still membership. I was made an honorary member of my school's Student Representative Council and I was able to pull rank on the head Student Activities Council (one level down) and get enough support behind me (both from the SRC and the student body) to stop him from making the dress code even more restricting. And he's all apoplectic, going on about how my position as a student representative was honorary and ranting and raving how any power I have should be purely symbolic and all, but I'd won, yay. mrgreen
