So my boyfriend is bipolar(as am I) and is in need of medication. His disorder is only getting worse, and he is serious about getting some help for it. He does have one problem though. He used to be an adict. He was addicted to pills, along with other various drugs. So he's afraid to start on medication.
Anyone know of any meds that he could use safely?

You would have to have a prescription anyway so I'd let a Dr. advise him as to what's best...but Lithium may be a good idea, it doesn't seem to have the "doping up" affects as other drugs I've tried have had.

I'm sure if he explains this to the doctor, they will know of a medication that is not addicting in any way, plus they don't offer the same high. also, i'm sure they will regularly follow up with him to see if hes taking his medication right and stuff. he could also tell them to just give him small quantities at a time, just to make sure that he can't take anymore than prescribed. my doctor did that because of my suicidal tendendies with pills. keep us updated! and i hope this helped at least a bit!

i hate medication it always leads to addiction or other side affects..for me but i hope stuff works out for him....sorry i dont have any good advice xp
