Within the chaos of the Serpentine Capital an undersized but lively tavern is concealed. A crooked sign hangs above the door-less entry way, “The Demi Wren”.
Upon entry you notice there is no perceptual floor, simply white sand like that of the streets. A few tables are upturned and dishes are strewn everywhere. There doesn’t appear to be a barkeep at the bar. Yet the obvious slothfulness demonstrated by proprietor goes seemingly unnoticed among the tavern’s patrons.
Worn tapestries, depicting Maeve in some unknown scene, hang on the walls. Setting atop the bar is a small lantern, casting warm but heavy shadows. Several dusty canvas pillows and a table in the corner remain unoccupied.
Notice: This thread takes place before Hawksong, during war-time. Avian characters would be putting themselves at great risk by revealing their heritage.

The day had been long. Another battle had been fought. More lives had been lost.
A tall man with dark hair and amber eyes enters. His features make evident his nobility. Zane’s head hung low as he approached the bar. Quite accustom to the atmosphere he helped himself to a drink, mug in hand, he made his way to a stack of dusty yet comfortable looking pillows.

A beige-cloaked figure staggers into the bar, silvery-blonde hair protruding slightly from its hood.
A raspy voice emits, exhaling shakily. The cloak shapes gracefully around a feminine figure. Stumbling upon an intricately hemmed cushion, the woman falls against the pile of such pillows with a slight murmur.

Seeing the woman in all her gracefulness come into the tavern Zane moved to stand, only to see her tumble into a pile of pillows. His lip twitched, he sucked in a breath, he held it for as long as he could, he threw his head back and laughed uncontrollably.
"Oh! Oh! I’m sorry!" Gasping for air, "You’re supposed to do that as you leave the bar not as you enter it!"
He stood and approached the lady, "Should I help you to your feet?" He smiled charmingly, "Or would it be better to bring the drink to you?"

Mitari mumbled incoherently with a deadly glare towards Zane. Recognizing his features, however, her eyes flitted to a retreat as she clutched her cloak to her body.
"If you wish to fetch a drink for an outsider, dear Diente..." her velvety voice emitted from the darkness of the tapestry about her frame. Wrenching the attire off, Mitari revealed a slim and appealing body, but her calves were soaked in blood. She cradled her sullied legs tenderly, while leaning upon the wall behind her.

"Diente? Oh! Haha! No, not yet." Zane’s eyes fell down the woman’s form. His smile disappeared, "Are you injured?"

'Almost,' Mitari exhaled. The Cobriana were distant from her realm of knowledge, and Zane would soon shun her for being a white viper anyway. How would a wanderer know the current royal house..?
"So much war out there....." she sighed warily, "I couldn't avoid it... Why do we hate... so much?" The wanderer curled her wounded legs beneath her, placing the cloak upon her lap. "And what brings an heir to the Cobriana line here..?" She lifted her gaze to his momentarily.

He looked some relieved but his smile did not return, "That is a question I cannot answer."
Zane spoke as walked off to the bar, "You must truly be an outsider. I frequent this absurdly invaluable establishment often." A hint of laughter returned to his voice, "You’ll find the Cobriana family is not so pretentious."
Returning with two mugs of an unknown substance, Zane joined the woman on the sandy floor, "We have not been properly introduced. I am Zane Cobriana. And might I add, it’s entirely my pleasure to make your acquaintance…" He nodded to the woman, seeking a name.

The cloaked stranger stepped into the tavern, the heavy cloth concealing his features in darker shadows, the lighting in the tavern casting no light upon his face. He takes a step towards the pillows, almost losing his footing before he caught himself. He muttered to himself, voice coming out as a low growl as he sat down on the pillows, hunched over himself. He glances over towards the other two occupants, before he recognized Zane's features. He gave a curse, and quickly stood to his feet, ready to run out the doorway again.

A figure in a dark brown cloak walked into the bar just in time to block the exit for the other cloaked figure.

He stopped and glared at the new cloaked person that blocked his path from beneath the hood of his cloak. Underneath the folds of canvas, his fists clenched and unclenched, pondering if he should get into a fight here or if he should just move for the other person. -Heh, never. I move for no man or woman. Although the Diente may be an exception.-
"Move." His voice rasped, the growling aspect of it not changing. From the tone of his voice, you could tell that he was actually rather young, despite his tall figure.

In a dark street on the fringe of the Serpiente city, it is almost silent. Voices ring out from neighboring alleys, some sort of party or meeting invariably occuring. But this particular street is almost silent, save for a few sounds. Soft footsteps, quick and moving down the street easily. The rustle of soft, expensive fabric- silk or satin. And one more rustle: That of feathers. A strange, uncommon sound in the city of snakes, that one is. And the bearer of those feathers is strange as well. She moves with graceful, long strides over the ground, unhampered by the flowing cream-colored skirt. Her blue-haired head is held high, and framed by partly opened grey wings. Her silver eyes remain fixed ahead of her, but miss nothing. Including the sinuous movements that follow her in the shadows. Suddenly those shadows move, twisting and leaping to become a Serpiente theif. The woman barely twitches, but in an instant a blade is held to his throat, pressing up and coming close to nicking the skin. She meets his gaze for a long moment, and his eyes drop first. With a snort of disgust, she lowers her blade. "If you ever, ever try that again snake boy, you will find that a falcon is no easy prey." The expression on her face is full of pride and arrogance, though admittedly deserved. She watches him through narrowed eyes until finally he turns and dashes off into the shadows from whence he emerged. The woman tosses her blade into the air and walks on, not even bothering to catch it. It never falls to the ground, having landed safely in a hidden sheath at her waist.

The figure was quite a bit taller than she was, but he had a voice that was much younger. Despite that, she was not going to move. The little punk should respect his elders. She did not answer him, but she did not move either. If he wanted her out of his way, he'd have to move her himself.

He ground his teeth, already wishing that he had not come into this tavern in the first place. He growled warningly before he realized what he did. -Why must I act so much like a wolf now?! At the wrong times, the opposite of what I want comes out.- He raised a gloved hand and hesitated before placing it back by his side. He sighed and moved away from the doorway, leaving the path clear for the other person.
