This takes place during the War, towards the begining of Hawksong.

The Avian Court was a lovely place of manners, soft-spoken words, and gentle hands. The exact opposite of the world around them, to Avians their court was a solid surface in a stormy sea, to Serpentine it was a symbol of masks, lies, and false images. Either way it was a famous (or infamous depending on who you asked) place and many flocked to it.

One of the people there was Arrakhdeen, a Barn Owl shifter and a noble of Hawk's Keep. She lost a brother to the War and joined it in his place, a way of seeing her twin continue to live. She is one of the elite Royal Flight and takes her job seriously, she will do anythign to keep her Tuli Thea and her princess safe.

Kiva shifted about restlessly, his eyes blank as he glared at the infuriating barn owl, Arrakhdeen. "When is the next battle, and what is it's strategy, Arrakhdeen?" He sat down in one of the chairs in the guard room, still annoyed, but his emotions coming under control after a few minutes of fury.

"Another fortnight, we have to let our own troops recover even if it means allows those snakes to as well." The dark eyed general answered, taking one of the chairs and spinning it around then sitting in it backwards, each of her legs on one side as she rested her arms on the back of the chair. "Strategy is a bit different. I want to use a small group - maybe a trio - as bait then have some of you waiting in the trees as birds then I want more of you to come in, in the air. I want all but three of their group dead. I'll need someone to get information out of, after all." It was kind of scary, seeing this beautiful woman speaking of death and murder with such ease, dressed in a uniform that she should never have had to put on.

"That is too long. My soldiers are getting restless," Kiva said softly as he stood and began pacing the room. "Forget my soldiers, I'm getting far to complacent in this short reprieve from battle." Unnerving as the woman was, this was a young man just recently turned sixteen years. At least half of his life was dedicated to the war, yet he still retained the young look without a mark to show his experience in fighting.

Arrakhdeen gave a bitter laugh, shaking her head. "I'm sorry, we can't do a full scale attack, but maybe a quiet raid," she paused, a vicious smirk curling onto her features. "You, me, and maybe another couple soldiers." She pulled out a small satchel, taking a couple boxes out, and laying them on the table. "Smoke?" She offered, having found the past time and addiction from the lions they'd hired for a job a few months back. She withdrew a paper from one of the boxes and an amount of shredded tobacco form the other before rolling a cigarette. She stood and walked to one of the lamps along the wall, holding the smoke up to it and lighting it.

Kiva made his own with expert fingers and lighting it with a practiced flourish. "That will have to make do for my restlessness then," Kiva said coldly, taking a puff from his handmade cigarette. "Who and when?" he asked gruffly, the smell and actions calming him down, along with the nicotine in the tobacco helping him.

"I'm not sure who else, I'll have to look through the ranks, I want someone who I can trust that I know won't run away but won't chase after them if its hopeless." The Barn Owl took a long drag on her smoke, putting the materials back in it's bag then tying it to her belt. "Know of anyone off the top of your head?"

Kiva shook his head, sighing softly. "My ranks are far too bloodthirsty to listen to orders other than eliminate," he said, taking another puff.

"What happened to the good old days when a soldier followed his orders to a tee? Especially Avian warriors, if the Serpentine knew how undisciplined we have become," She trailed off with a disgruntled shake of her head. "Fine me another soldier or two, then we can iron out the details of a raid." It was an order not a request, Arrakhdeen was still his commander, even if they were smoking together.

"Yes, sire," Kiva said mockingly as he put out his cigarette and bowed to her before leaving the room for a moment to return with a list of his troops.
