Grounding and Centering
Grounding and centering gives you a way to get acclimated back into not having so much energy around you, or through your body. It reinforces your connection to Mother Earth. If you go ungrounded after a work (big or small), you may feel dizzy, faint, or not be able to walk straight.
I'll give you several ways to ground yourself. Experiment with each, or make up one of your own. Just make sure you do what is best for you every time after a working.
Sometimes I just crouch down with my hands between my knees, palms to the floor and imagine the extra energy going counter-clockwise into the earth. I'm able to "feel" when I'm done, but if you don't have the feel for it yet, you'll have to experiment.
Other times I eat and drink a little something afterwards. Women, if you're on your period, I would do this and one other method.
Another Gaia-user explains how she grounds herself:
Quote:
I sit comfortable with my feet flat on the floor. I breathe slow and deeply. I close my eyes and picture myself as a tree. My head and shoulders are the branches and my legs and body is the trunk. I let that image sink in. Every time I breathe out, my roots grow deeper into the ground. I watch them go deep into the earth. As I breathe in, they pull up nutrients into me. Now, when I breathe out, I pull down the sun's rays down the branches, through the trunk, and into the roots. I breathe in the nutrients. When I'm done, I picture my roots coming back to me, and once they are, I open my eyes...
Our very own Althena tells us how she grounds herself:
Quote:
I ground myself by closing my eyes, sitting Indian style on my bed and imagine myself as one with the bed, then we are one with the floor, then finally one with the Earth.
Another Gaia-user tells how he grounds himself:
Quote:
I took some calming breaths as you told us in lesson one. I thought of a water fall rushing over my body. The water pouring down me to the ground. As the water flowed over my body the energies that were left over from the energy ball were being washed away with it. I could literaly feel the wet water flow over me and my body becoming more and more calm. So i guess after reading hers (the above user's) and a few others on other forums i reealized how to do it i think.
Zane tells us what works for him:
Quote:
For grounding, I sit with my feet flat on the floor (or if outside, my knees to my chest and my back to a tree), my hands folded in my lap. I see myself on a hill, with the wind blowing the excess energies away, dispersing them where ever they are needed. Each breath fills me with cold air, balancing me out and settling me down. On the exhale, I feel more and more connected to the ground, as still as stone and as calm. Once I feel that I am stone, a new part of the hill, I open my eyes.
Basically, the point of grounding is to get you acclimated and back down to earth, so to speak. Grounding should take place after rituals, meditations, and any kind of magickal work (energy included). If the work was small, say a brief meditation, a small snack might suffice for some people. Others may need to imagine that spiral or corkscrew going back into Mother Earth.
Experiment with these, or post your own and I'll add it here (unless you don't want me to, then I won't).
Happy findings, and may you Blessed Be.
