There have been several popular ladders for Starcraft not connected with Blizzard, such as WGT (World Gamers Tour), PGT (Pro Gamers Tour) and now ICCup (International Cyber Cup).
For those of you who are unfamiliar with this, I will explain a bit.
You can register an account on iccup.com (which is currently under heavy construction), and download the launcher and map pack in order to play. When you load starcraft through the launcher, there will be a new gateway above USWest, USEast, etc. called "Abyss (ICCup)," where you play on. There is an anti-hack feature that comes with the launcher, so if both players have that feature (which most people do), there is little chance you are playing against a hacker.
Everyone starts off as "D" rank, with a score of 1000. As you win games, you add points to your score, and if you get enough points, your rank will increase to D+, C-, C, C+, etc. If you lose games, you will lose points, and may fall to the D- rank, but there are none lower than that.
It is very fun if you like to play competitively and without hackers. It is a great way to mass game and a great place to practice and improve your game.
I was wondering if anyone here plays on ICCup. I just started yesterday, and I'm still really rusty from not playing for a year, and my score is like 2-6. But I know if I keep playing I will improve fast and get back to my old level and hopefully even better.

That sounds interesting. Maybe I'll join it when I get my stupid computer to run Starcraft again. -.-
