Okay, I've decided to take the exam to be a firefighter here in Fall River.
Go ahead, laugh at the thought of me as a firefighter if you want. Several other people have already.
I guess my question is, is this a really bad idea?
Pros: Pay is insanely better than Starwood; I don't have to talk to idiotic people for 8 1/2 hours a day; 2-3 day work week; 24 hour shifts would give me the chance to write again; women love firemen.
Cons: Potentially fatal, I'd have to quit smoking, I'd have to shave off my goatee.
The pros outweigh the cons... but that first con is pretty big...

I say go for it! My little brother is a firefighter, and while I'm a little worried for his safety, I'm also very proud of him for it smile I think the pros definitely outweigh the cons in those respects. And when someone asks you how your day at work went, you can say, "I walked into a burning building and saved a man's life." That's pretty great smile

I told you how I feel about it - I say go for it. It'll get you out of Starwood at least.
And I told you as well, if you get in and have to quit smoking I'll quit with you, I was planning too eventually anyway.

Go for it, bud. I spent 3 years as a vol fire fighter (still certified, but don't do it anymore. Cert runs out next year, but I don't plan to renew it for several reasons, none of which are the job), and it can be an insanely tense job, even for the hoser, like me razz . You can add to the pros, the feeling you get when you save someone's crib from burning down. Also, something else to think about, is the possibilities that they may even send you back to school to learn fire/arson investigation. There are a lot of perks to being a smoke eater.
